Amarra sQ is not listed there because it's the little Amarra application that plays internet streams only. It's $30 and the fancier version (sQ+) is $50. I didn't see Decibel there. It's a bare bones player of your server based music. It's cheap too at $33. I really like Decibel. It plays high resolution up to 24/192. I have Amarra sQ and I haven't really warmed up to it.

To sumarize, Amarra sQ plays internet streams. Decibel plays music stored on your hard drive.

I've been using Decibel for years and its iike Foobar2000 lite for the Mac. And it sound great with an Emu 0404 USB sound board.

You may want to demo Amarra sQ for internet radio streaming.

i believe core audio tech has a write up on high end software for this...

VLC plays the 320 stream just fine...I use Decibel for my regular audio playback though as its the closest thing to Foobar2000 on a MAC.

The save playlist did the trick. The nice thing about the LINUX version is it remembers it and when you open VLC all you have to do is hit play.

Glad it worked. Not as cool as LINUX but simpler than it was.

Or duh, save it from VLC file menu as playlist. If it opens in itunes get info on it and change to open in VLC.

If open with doesn't stick make the script for this playlist as described below.

I just did this on my macbook running 10.6.8 and "open with" stuck and it's working as expected.

Try this. Paste the stream link into your browser, hit enter, and start playing the stream. Drag the web location to your desktop.

Here's the part I don't get but I have a workaround. Get info on the web location and tell it to open with VLC. For me this doesn't stick and it still opens in my browser. So....

Move the web location document to a safe place where it can live out of the way. Documents, for example.

Control click and open in VLC once to test..

Quit VLC.

Fire up applescript from the utilities folder.

Have a window open with the web location available.

Click record in applescript.

Control click web location document and select open with VLC.

Watch it open VLC and start playing the stream.

Stop Applescript.

Save as application.

Name it......RPVLC128 for example.

Quit VLC.

Double click new application to test.

If it works hide it somewhere safe and stick it in the dock or create a desktop alias.

Done in less than a minute.
