That's the funny thing. I would have been willing to get in on a trial so even if all of the long-term risks haven't been identified, I have zero reason not to get vaccinated, now that there are data showing overall safety even if the roll-out was expedited more than usual in normal circumstances.
genetic modification/editing coupled with "super computational modeling" is opening this (microbiology) up to unfathomable precision
here's a recent video explanation of what's happening
even if you watch this twice (i did, but i'm not an expert in this field) and read a bit, it shouldn't take more than 45 minutes or so to get a really good understanding of the concept
the engineering potential with these tools (for humans, plants, etc.) is mind blowing
depending on your mind, the degree of blowing may vary
So how do we enforce this? Do you get vaccination papers (that get a new stamp every time there's a new vaccine mandated) which you need to carry with you at all times to allow entry into any place deemed by the Guardians of Public Health to be Public? Do we randomly stop and frisk people, and if they can't prove they're innocent of being unvaccinated we tattoo them on the forehead?
If your vaccine didn't take (leaving you effectively unvaccinated) does that make you guilty? Whose word do we take that you're legitimately exempt—a doctor? Any doctor? What if two doctors disagree? A chiropractor? A homeopath? A herbologist? Acupuncturist? Practicer of Traditional Chinese Medicine (board certified by an organization that prints Chinese characters on scrolls)?
What if you were vaccinated in a foreign country and can't document it? What if you were certified ineligible for vaccination by a doctor in a foreign country and can't document that?
If you're caught occupying a Public Place while unvaccinated what is the punishment—fine, imprisonment, forced vaccination, deportation...?
Or is this just another poorly thought-out bit of grandstanding by someone who wants us all to know he's on the Right Side of This Issue?
And we should take all their guns, charge a reparation tax based upon the percentage of European DNA and other policies that are logistically impossible to implement. However by introducing them, as you noted you receive the adulation that comes with the announcement of your moral superiority so there is that.

Anyone attempting to stick me with a flu shot needle gets to ponder pervading patches of purple skin for a couple of weeks... OK. Niblets.
Besides. Its American society at a glance that we need to be vaccinating against. All the fear therapists, race baiters and pointless meme screamers...
As SFW pointed out, people generally should feel free to provide their opinion without being constrained by the straightjacket of your hypothetical example. And they have.
I'm not condemning anyone for any answers or judging anything in any way.
The debate about vaccines will go on forever as will many other debates. It seems that this debate dwelled mighty long on the public policy side of it when the discussion focused on Rand Paul for many days and he was railed on because he thought that vaccination should only be voluntary as a matter of public policy, IIRC.
I have yet to hear anyone speak out against vaccination as a practice. This is a highly charged subject. So much so that it seems headed towards a public policy decision at the highest level. Why else would anyone want to know the opinion of potential candidates for POTUS ? Vaxxers vs antivaxxers or whatever the terminology is. I think it would be more correctly called pro choice vs. no choice. I've already seen one opinion stating that it should be mandatory in the workplace.
So never mind then, I guess. Not worthy as a public policy debate ...
My question was posed as if you had to go and vote tomorrow in a national referendum that would result in a binding law for everyone.
The only way to be exempt from an involuntary vaccination would be medical and approved by two doctors.

Our current system of mandating vaccinations for public school attendance has been working fairly well in view of the fact that vaccination rates continue to increase. I think it would be good if all of the other states joined West Virginia in not allowing any exemptions unless there is a valid medical reason (such as children with suppressed/poor immune systems, etc.).
Carrot/stick is pretty much how we do many sensible things, like get people to wear seat belts, carry auto insurance, etc.

How do you force people to have their kids vaccinated? Why don't we force mentally ill people to take their meds. If we did that, we might reduce the number of murders. By the way, I am for vaccinating.
you can't force people. Obviously. that's why we're were we are.
no, necessarily a massive outbreak, but putting infants (who are too young to be vaccinated) and people who cannot be immunized at risk. Considering that encephalitis can occur with exposure I'd like kids to be vaccinated. that's my take.
I would too, but at what cost I suppose is the question.

Trust me, I am quite sure there is a contigent somewhere in our bureaucracy whose ears just perked up.
