I, I will be king
And you, you will be queen
Though nothing will drive them away
We can beat them just for one day
We can be heroes just for one day

And you, you can be mean
And I, I'll drink all the time
'Cause we're lovers, and that is a fact
Yes, we're lovers, and that is that

Though nothing will keep us together
We could steal time just for one day
We can be heroes forever and ever
What d'you say?

I, I wish you could swim
Like the dolphins, like dolphins can swim

Though nothing, nothing will keep us together
We can beat them forever and ever
Oh, we can be heroes just for one day

I, I will be king
And you, you will be queen
Though nothing will drive them away
We can be heroes, just for one day
We can be us just for one day

I, I can remember (I remember)
Standing by the wall (By the wall)
And the guns shot above our heads (Over our heads)
And we kissed as though nothing could fall (Nothing could fall)

And the shame was on the other side
Oh, we can beat them forever and ever
Then we could be heroes just for one day

We can be heroes
We can be heroes
We can be heroes just for one day
We can be heroes

We're nothing, and nothing will help us
Maybe we're lying, then you better not stay
But we could be safer just for one day
Oh-oh-oh-oh, oh-oh-oh-oh, just for one day

Not my favorite mix, especially since almost every band covering it since the Wallflowers only cover the single mix.  I much prefer the album cut of the song.
William, what's wrong with the full 6:00 version? This is only 3:27. I know you play both but...
'10' is the only possible answer.
ICONIC!

Maybe because it sounds better in FLAC!
Every single time I hear this song, it reminds me of  ''
Zoo Station: The Story of Christiane F.'' book and the movie they made based on it. For a young girl like me at this time, it stayed stuck in my imaginary ( both song and movie) for a long time after it was released. Still love it. A very diffrent life than mine...I read her book ''My second life'' and I wish her all the best.
This will always envoke fond memories of the London 2012 Olympic Games for me, and many fellow Brits.
I loved the movie "The Perks Of Being A Wallflower" but how could you not know Bowie?

Most definitely it is him.
Oooooh, I get it. They live in east Berlin and their love is doomed but if only they could escape over the wall they would be heroes - the wall could be literal of metaphorical in the sense that relationships that fail do so because of the walls we put up, etc.

Nice little tune.
Have always loved the way Ol' Dave screams this song.........8.

Mine too - Just not the short version.  Please Bill, play the long album version.  Or one of the many great live versions out there.

Thanks
have to agree with a previouos post: the version played here is beyond lame.

REally: play the real version or do not play it at all....

Very dissapointing.

{#Naughty}

bill said it was the republic tigers? WTF

Would you please, please take this truncated version behind the barn and brain it with an axe?

It won't hurt a bit to play the full tune.

When did Christiane F die?

She's still alive.  There was an article in a Berlin paper about her dated January 28, 2011.  She's still having drug problems, and has been in and out of treatment programs, but she's still alive.

To those interested in Christiane F.: She's still around - apparently she's not well and sadly back in the junkie scene, but definitely alive! A local newspaper ran a story on her current situation last week (https://www.bz-berlin.de/aktuell/berlin/christiane-f-check-bei-drogen-razzia-article1100635.html).

Call me a square if you like, but that movie put me off drugs up to when I was 21 years old...been a sporadic user since (lucky I can indulge without losing the plot errrr sometimes), but yes, for me the film also evokes Bowie and vice-versa.

One of my all time favorites. I could listen to "Heroes' forever and ever.
Not a lot of good things can be said about the Godzilla movie of the 90's, but the soundtrack did introduce me to the decent cover of "Heroes" by the Wallflowers and the laughable sampling of Kashmir by Puff/PDid in my mid teens.  This in turn lead me to seek out the absolutely amazing originals, which coincided with the time that I stopped listening to the radio and discovered real music.

Thank you Godzilla

One of the all-time greats.
This song didn't grow up on me.. still waiting but I don't know what people find in this material

It gets played so often, it's not bad and all but there's so much music that deserves to be played for the 9 out of 10 times this one is played.

Always reminds me of the movie "Christiane F" - (https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0082176/)

What!?  I like the song Heroes as much as the next guy (especially when they throw it into some movie sondtracks), but Ziggy Stardust and Hunky Dory are two "perfect albums".   It rarely gets that good these days—there were a decent amount of perfect albums in the 60's, 70's and early 90's, but not so much anymore, IMHO.

But about the music...
Wiki excerpt:  "Seu Jorge played Pelé Dos Santos in Wes Anderson's The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou, for which he provided much of the soundtrack in the form of Portuguese language cover versions of David Bowie classics."

Funny movie. Great cast. Great music - think Bowie unplugged (acoustic) in Portuguese.

We picked up the soundtrack from that Live Aquatic movie for Seu Jorge's excellent Portuguese interpretations of Bowie. Also, if you haven't already, be sure to check out Anderson's The Darjeeling Limited. I completely missed the cameo by Bill Murray at the beginning the first time I watched it.

Curious, since Bowie is the most eclectic performer of (as Casey Kasum would say) the rock era and his amazing voice has evolved and changed both because of time and to as they say "serve the song." how could you generally dislike ANYTHING by David Bowie?
