i find this version to be very dramatic and i really like it. actually, i like all versions i've heard.

LOL it really does remind me of coming from my cat's point of view in places "just be still with me. you wouldn't believe what i've been through...it's been so long..." (she is old at 15 and has separation anxiety. LOL)

I'm on the fence for which version of this song I like better, the Moroder version or the Let's Dance version.... I think I like the Let's Dance version better by about 0.5.... They both rate an 8, minimum.

I was introduced to Bowie's larger body of work with this album by a couple who were "cat people".  They kept a black leopard as a pet and worked at a zoo with the big cats.  So many years ago.....  Great memories.

This was a nice set with Peter Schilling and Natalie Marchant's takes on the Major Tom story but I think for the Bowie tune it would make more sense to do something off Heroes or Low to circle us back to Germany. I always thought the Schilling song was a reaction to krautrock influences on the Berlin albums.

Bowie has been the soundtrack of my life and didn't even realise until he had gone. I know we can make too much of people who at the end of the day were just really good at their jobs. I'm a muso and happy with where I am. But wouldn't have had the inspiration to do it without people like Bowie. So thanks Dude, in a big way. And Mick Ronson, one of the best guitarists ever, forget clapton..

I prefer the version on the album Let's Dance, much more vibrant, wild and raucous, and David really gives one the feeling about actually putting out a fire with gasolene, and what that would do, brilliant, as is the whole of that album IMO.

I've got this on vinyl.  Bought the cd much later and found the mastering, like so many others, was absolute crap.  Don't know if a decent digital version even exists.  I suspect the rating would be a notch or two higher if it weren't for that.

Me and a bunch of friends saw it when it came out. Kinski and the music distracted us from the crappy plot that we didn't notice.

I saw this when it premiered as well.  It was nothing great, but it was fun.  Nastassja was yummy in it, so was Annette O'Toole.  Oddly enough, Lou Reed was in the snack line in front of me at the theater, I didn't say anything to him.

My favorite part of this song is the soulful backing vocals. Great stuff.

Oh, even better, this is the full-length version. Bowie's double CD greatest hits features the shortened single version of this and a bunch of his other songs, which is annoying.

I remember seeing David Bowie on TV when I was a kid around the time this song came out and I was petrified. He was such a striking and strange looking person. I liked the music, and still do, but at the time, I had to change the channel :)
