I used to think the world was flat
Rarely threw my hat into the crowd
I felt I had used up my quota of yearning

Used to look in on the children at night
In the glow of their Donald Duck light
And frighten myself with the thought of my little ones burning

But ooh, the tide is turning
The tide is turning

Satellite buzzing through the endless night
Exclusive to moonshots and the world title fights
Jesus Christ, imagine what it must be earning

Who is the strongest, who is the best
Who holds the aces, the East or the West
This is the crap that our children are learning

But ooh, the tide is turning
''(Ooh)'' The tide is turning
The tide is turning
''(Ooh, the tide is turning)''

Now the satellite's confused
'Cause on Saturday night
The airwaves were full of compassion and light
And his silicon heart warmed to the sight
Of a billion candles burning

''(Ooh, the tide is turning)''
''(Ooh, the tide is turning)''
The tide is turning Billy

I'm not saying the battle is won
But on Saturday night all those kids in the sun
Wrested technology's sword from the hands of the warlords

Ooh, the tide is turning
Ooh, the tide is turning
The tide is turning Sylvester

''(Ooh, the tide is turning)''
''(Ooh, the tide is turning)''
''(Ooh, the tide is turning)''
''(Ooh, the tide is turning)''
''(Ooh, the tide is turning)''
''(Ooh, the tide is turning)''
''(Ooh, the tide is turning)''
''(Ooh, the tide is turning)''
''(Ooh, the tide is turning)''

[Morse Code:] "That's it!
Now the past is over but you are not alone
Together we'll fight Sylvester Stallone
We will not be dragged down in his South China Sea
Of macho bullshit and mediocrity"

Like all fine cheeses a solo Roger Waters is an acquired taste. But after you get used to it it's quite good.

a song writtern about a fantastic day - July 13, 1985 - where peace, love and music really did make a difference.
Great album...it was pretty refreshing when it came out. Love Roger...he calls a spade a spade, very vocal about our collective stupidities. This is pretty hopeful for him.
I've been here lurking for a while. But I'm compelled to write a comment on this track. It sux! That is all.

Roger was the primary songwriter and occasional lead singer. Gutiarist David Gilmour was the lead singer on most of post Syd Barret Floyd.
Wow, I haven't heard this track in years! Certainly my favorite off of the album. The choir at the end is just perfect.
one of the 'top' albums ...every track on the album is strong....
That was fantastic! That made me want to shout : "Down with BushCo!"

More Roger Waters!
Hit me with that guitar sledgehammer! Scant indeed, but devastating!

Amused to Death is genius!

I LOVE Pink Floyd, but this is making me regrow my virginity.
Pink was great (under statment) but love that he tried to put together something to sound like his own, well done The past belongs in the past, we have to remember this!!! Brave New World
I found this album years ago and it's still one of my favorites. All of his solo work is excellent.
sorry guys, I never thought i'd come up with a comment like that, but wow, that was gay.
This is a great CD to listen to, especially if you've forgotten that awful feeling that nuclear destruction was inevitable back in the mid-80's. What a different world we live in today. Kind of.
I just can't help but to like Roger Waters, even though I wish I could just say, "Yes, I know your dad died in the war, but fer chrissakes that was over 60 years ago! Time to move on!" But then, he goes and writes something that makes me think he did just that.
Sounds good, I'd like to hear more Roger Waters solo work on RP.

Yes, the full title of the song is "The Tide is Turning (After Live Aid)." I think it's interesting to compare this song to the album-closing song on his next album, "Amused To Death." Apparently Waters' optimism for the human race was kind of short-lived.
This isn't the original version is it? I recall having this tape once also but remember a different tune... Mmmm

The end of the "cold war" and the peace dividend, which Bush has not only stopped, but borrowed heavily against.
Mmmm... beautiful choral bit at the end!

I actually think Hitchhicking was the best. The concert was definately better with Clapton on Guitar!

I disagree. 'The Pros and Cons of Hitchhiking' is pretty good. www.cubaninlondon.blogspot.com
No way. I had this tape too. This was a very interesting one. I remember hearing "Radio Waves" on the radio, but not much else.
Was he referring to a specific event in this song?

I saw him on his "Dark side of the Moon" tour a couple of weeks ago. Just fabulous!
I'd only heard this in the live version of The Wall, 1989. Wow, It's so different.. and... so... good. www.cubaninlondon.blogspot.com
Yay! Saw Roger Waters a couple of weeks ago, hoped he'd play something off of Radio KAOS..
Yes, what a pleasant surprise! Perhaps more than any other song he's ever written, what this shows is just what a decent humanist Roger Waters really is.
Wow, I'm surprised to hear this. Awesome!
woooohoooo!
...stunned and delighted to hear this on radio paradise...
Takes me back... This song is far better when played along with the track just before it, "Four Minutes", which gives it more context and meaning, in my opinion.
Most often, Roger can\'t go wrong...he\'s a spectacular song/epic album writer...
It\'s a really fantastic song.

Yes, I'd venture to say the guitar work clapton did on Pros and cons was probably the best stuff he's done in the last twenty years.
Roger Waters

Didn't listen to this song very well did you? Go thank YOUR god and leave us non-war mongers out of your death and distruction.
10 for the lovely choir at the end, -10 for Roger bloody Waters
ending is the best. I love roger waters!
Great song, sadly were turning in the other direction as of late. Be good to hear some of Roger\'s other stuff, \"Three Wishes\" and the title track from Amused or Sexual Revolution from Pros and Cons, with Clapton\'s blistering gutiar.

Interesting lyrics, but a little over-the-top sometimes (like being taught to think with a sledgehammer rather than with a feather). Plus, Hitchhiking didn't suffer from the "speak a few lyrics with female backup singers echoing and then scream a couple lines in frustrated anger" syndrome that KAOS, and more significantly, Amused, suffered from. Anyway, this is probably the best song from Radio KAOS. It'd be a nifty "inside joke" to get Jim Ladd to record a Paradise intro for this song. :) How about something from Hitchhiking, or from his recent tour (which was good, musically, but not up-to-snuff for shwomanship). Maybe the Amused To Death medley from the tour? (yes, even though I don't like it as much, it still played great in concert), or Dogs?
Really enjoyed reading your thoughts. Thanks. :)

Sounds like your Mom is very cool. Great story.

Well, yes, but musically speaking it was pretty awful at times. eww. I'm sure the original PF shows were MUCH better (when I was 9 or so, what'd I know )

That's an EXCELLENT comment! So, yeah, what dschuetz said. I agree.
Full title: \'The Tide Is Turning (after Live Aid)\'. For once Roger was optimistic. Which makes it such a special tune. Tide is sorta turning back, now, Roger, is it?
