Summer bled of Eden
Easter's heir uncrowns
Another destiny
lies leeched
upon the ground

Everybody needs someone to live by
Everybody needs someone
Everybody needs someone to live by

A gilded wreath on reason
The flower crushed conceives
A child of fragrance
so much clearer
In legacy

Everybody needs someone to live by
Everybody needs someone
Everybody needs someone to live by

Rage on omnipotent

this song is a nine only because it ends.
A 10 from me .. Talk Talk changed the sound for so many bands to follow .. Mark Hollis a genius
Such anticipation, then the resolution is magical!

I don't like all of Talk Talk, and not at all times. But I have huge respect for them and am so glad for their presence in the music world.

If you don't like it, hit the "skip button"   ...problem solved!  Along with many other RP listeners, I think this tune is GREAT!!  Thanx RP!

This comment was surely intended for another song. I can't imagine you are THAT tone-deaf!

comparison of talent in genius requires very little mental acuity… yeah Radiohead are genius and yeah Talk Talk is as well for those that did not catch the first bit.
I always think it's Velvet Underground for the first few seconds.

Talk Talk are my Radio Head!
One of those tunes that really should be cranked the hell up to be fully appreciated.
I'm glad that Alanna has been brought up to appreciate Talk Talk too. Good work, William.
And. Then. The beautiful words!
Still my very, very favourite. I don’t give 10 very often .

Roxy Music ...Big influence to the band.
Mmm mmm mmm... I agree on them all, except Crach test dummies. Cetainly the least possible play time for that song.

...or "Talk Talk", the 1966 single by the American garage rock band The Music Machine.
Must have - The essence of Marc Harris
Doesn't get better than a 10... but this one goes to 11!
I I like like Talk Talk...
this tune improved for me after listening to the entire album. moody

You forgot the 80's band Danger Danger, whose hits include Bang Bang and Naughty Naughty.  Also the John Parr song Naughty Naughty.

Type either Talk Talk band or The The band in a meta-search engine and you will get plenty of results.
Had to amend my rating from an 8 to a 9. They were truly ahead of their time.
Genius writing coupled with fantastic musical arrangements,Mark RIP❤️
I am in awe of a mind that can assemble such a lovely contraption as this...
Genius man - lovely gift - too soon gone
Mark Hollis went to the same school at Ray (and Dave) Davies, Rod Stewart and Michael Kiwanuka. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/...
Spirit of Eden is a unique and mesmerising album.

Followed by Wet Wet Wet
This song is getting better and better as the time goes by. Voice and tunes unbeatable and unrepeatable
10 all the way through including the crashing symbols ❤️
I love Talk Talk but the crashing cymbals at the end is noise pollution. :-(

I am so grateful that I can hear my favourite music on a RADIO. Thank you!
Thanks for playing this album, nice and warm.
for the first time since I started listening to RP(inception). I've been able to afford to contribute monthly to RP... I am so grateful for all this great music.

My daughter's boyfriend, based on my musical tastes, gave me Colour of Spring for Christmas. It was a good choice. I didn't have any of their music in my collection, though always enjoyed hearing it here on RP. Now I can hear it here anytime.
It seems that M. Hollis was also one of the precious few who had bought VU's first album, and later started the band. Guitar work here proves it.
Captivating and wondrous,RIP Mark✌️

Nothing like Mark Hollis on the musical landscape, either before or after...
Brilliant!

nice...thanks for the geographic share, and I agree this does give me a similar feeling about soaring over beautiful mountain landscapes....good one and LLRP!!  and +1 cuz my 7 is WAY too low...
Still one of the best bands ever....that voice of Mark's haunts my soul....

Like many others, this album didn't resonate with me when it came out.  But as time passed, and I heard it more, I heard it differently, and now it's one of my favorites.  Side A/first 3 tracks should always be played as one.
Simply amazing.

All of the high praise and accolades that is directed at East of Eden, I attribute to The Colour of Spring. I do see the meditative post-rock genre imagining originality of the last two Talk Talk albums, but they never made it close to my Top Albums Ever list, like Colour of Spring did. At least we agree on the brilliance of the band..

Hear, hear. What a shock, he was only 64.
I just heard our esteemed DJ say that Mark Hollis passed yesterday.  Very sad - he will be sorely missed.  An excellent Musician and Visionary!

I'll second the musical genius.  And timeless voice.

Thanks for including Talk Talk in the rotation. But really, how could you not? The music and the voice of Mark Hollis are more than worthy.
COOL!
Just love this entire album.  Thank you for playing Talk Talk.
Widely cited by musicians like Guy Garvey (Elbow) and suchlike as one of the most influential of all albums.  Received a bit of, um, a mixed reception when it came out but it's undeniably a classic.  For those in the UK, there was a programme celebrating the 25th anniversary of its release earlier this year, presented by the aforementioned Mr Garvey. on Radio 6 Music.  It may still be available on catch-up: it's not a hagiography and is well worth a listen.
{#Hearteyes} this album....

{#Good-vibes}
What an achievement!
I am forever blown away by this song! Truly, on another level... Some of my best memories of MTV when it was new are of Talk-Talk...
A 10 to the whole album easily

When it was released I really was addicted to this album!

Stop work, put on headphones, enjoy.

One of the top 10 albums of my time...imho.
What a sequel ... John Hiatt, 2 x XTC and now Talk Talk  Must be one of my favorite sequences here on RP yet.
I've never really acquired the taste for these guys, but I can appreciate that this is probably better than most music released in 1988. I know that isn't saying very much - 1988 was the worst year for music in the 1980s, and maybe the worst in my lifetime.
Everything in this album approached genius levels IMHO, as does Mark Hollis' solo album. New romanticism meets modern jazz crossover, with real feeling.

awesome band. much overlooked originally. most people didn't 'get it' - they missed out.
Eathereal!
I heard that the lead singer recorded this vocal take at home while sitting on his washer/dryer during the spin cycle....really !!!
Genius. A gift Mark Hollis brought back to us from the edge of the abyss, I hear.

Not so.  Best served up when well rested, stone cold sober and sharp of mind.   About listen #5, I stopped listening and just let the music carry me.

What a great band!...and this album is just amazing!
One of my faves - great to hear it again! If music is your religion, this could be a convocation.
Utterly beautiful.  Haunting album from start to finish.  Top of my list of 80's bands for sure.
Bought the CD in the 80s and was surprised and alienated at first.

Then listend to it over and over and it started to grow.

Now consider it one of the best CDs I own.

Top score!
oh, so soothing to me. i absolutely love talk talk.
I thought people were locked away for making music like this in the 80's... Just as well not all of them were! Excellent unique atmosphere, and Laughing Stock (the next album) is even better! {#Cool}

This post apparently contained an image that was dragged into the post editor. Sorry, but any text contained in the post after this point has been lost.
This is too slow-paced, almost like slow motion music.  In general, they need to pick it up.  It's not edgy.  It's not ominous or creepy, which is what it would need to be at this pace to be any good.
