Oh wow!! Something other than Hallelujah that shows what an insane amount of talent this guy had. What a damn shame we lost him too soon.

I practically cry when I hear his voice. How he died, singing in the Mississippi never to be seen again. And his childhood, Child of a heroin addict.... His voice is just so haunting. GRACE... What an album. in my top 10 of all time...

Rarely do you find someone with the depth, range and control he had. Truly, a tragic loss, and we can only imagine what he might have gone on to do.

I rarely get maudlin about musicians dying young... it happens so damned often I guess you get used to it somehow. But I first heard Jeff Buckley on a college radio station (Rollins College in Winter Park) about two years ago. I did a u-turn and went to a music store and bought everything they had by him. Come in the door, sit down at the computer and put this cd in the machine, and browse the web to learn about him.

Especially a song about grief.this tune had me drifting back and forth between digging it and cringeing at it. this is the first time i have heard of jeff buckley and i'm pretty sure i won't become a big jeff buckley fan, but i appreciate being exposed to it and all the other tunes that RP puts out. whether i dig them or cringe at them, they broaden my musical horizon. 
This starts out pretty tolerable for Buckley. And then after that it's not.
I'm rating this more on the acoustic live in Japan version which was the first Jeff song I ever heard. The album version is definitely overcooked but that's the way of things...
I think people post such aggressively negative stuff about Jeff partly because they know his fans are generally sensitive souls prone to teary outbursts - it's cheap entertainment for the emotionally stunted.

Ah, Jeff was put "out of his misery" as he drowned some years back. A great singer/songwriter. This song is a little overrought though although I love most of his music. He was a precious talent lost too early in his career. For shame.

I had this on my MP3 player as my friends and I took our rafts for three weeks down the Grand Canyon. One night as the temperature barely dipped below 90, I lay out on my sleeping pad looking at the Arizona stars and listened to Jeff Buckley.
I turned on my headlamp to read, and was immediately swarmed by some kind of non-biting bug. Millions of them. Billions! I was just about to turn the light off when I saw hundreds of small bats start a blitzkreig attack on the bugs. Darting in and out of my light beam, swallowing up a buffet, the bats cleared out every last bug alive.
I was left with a completely unblocked sky, viewing stars and planets (and a few fat bats). Just me and Mr. Buckley, wailing away at the desert silence.
Seems like this song will never end!

Bit confused by the low rating of this song. For me it's up there with some of best rock songs which you can listen to again and again - harmony and melody way more interesting than most, and catchy to boot, good vocal solos (if a bit too Bobby Planet orientated), excellent musicianship, superb arrangement. (I can see RP repsonses in my head to the industry patter). I also hear bit of magic in there as well. Always been one of my favourites.
Grace is a masterpiece, and I believe Jeff would have been much more of a driving force of rock sons than Rufus has been (although I appreciate what Rufus is doing).

Easy, now. There are certain voices that people seem to either love or hate. For instance, Thom Yorke's voice drives a significant minority of RP posters, including me, absolutely nuts, but Radiohead is one of the highest rated bands here.

Yep. This song, and whole album, are full of lines like that: they reach into your heart and give it squeeze. I don't know if that's good or bad, I guess it depends where you're standing.

try listening to his father Tim sometime........Jeff was really great but I liked his father even more......they looked and sounded very similiar and both died young...almost the same age I think.....
I agree... also the line 'She's a tear that hangs inside my soul forever...' Always makes me think of someone I fell in love with, but ultimately it did not work out. Jeff was an amazing artist and I was so sad to discover him after his death. Moreso to find he did several shows in here in Chicago I never got to see. He's not an artist for everyone, but definitely my favorite artist/songwriter of recent years. (Recent being the last 20 years or so)
