Only love
Can make it rain
The way the beach is kissed by the sea.
Only love
Can make it rain
Like the sweat of lovers
Laying in the fields.

Love, reign o'er me.
Love, reign o'er me, reign o'er me, reign o'er me.

Only love
Can bring the rain
That makes you yearn to the sky.
Only love
Can bring the rain
That falls like tears from on high.

Love, reign o'er me, reign o'er me, reign o'er me.
Love, reign o'er me, reign o'er me, reign o'er me.

On the dry and dusty road
The nights we spend apart alone
I need to get back home to cool cool rain.
I can't sleep and I lay and I think
The nights is hot and black as ink
Oh God, I need a drink of cool cool rain.

Sometimes things align and gems are left in the wake
Oh Bill ❤
Who is the incredible drummer on this tune? Anyone know his story? And the bassist seems accomplished as well.
This song is a miracle

Fantastic stuff - on the dry and dusty road … great music- Roger and Pete at their best.

I mean, I disagree, I like it, but . . . yeah, I can see where you're coming from. Like, Arena Rock but OVERLY Arena Rock.
Not going to bash people that bash this song, not worth the energy. That being said, long live real classic rock and long live this tune!!!!
Just endured two (!) back to back Spirit songs and something from "Chorus of Tribes" to get to this. It was worth it.
Best. Pickslide. Ever.
May well be the most powerful song in genre that is largely about powerful songs.

"Cock-rock", puh-lease.   What is that even supposed to mean?

Go with a look in the mirror for the pretentiousness and bombast.

I love the opening to this, but I think it goes downhill from there. Still, a great piece, just not as great as for me as perhaps it could have been!

I can't even begin to describe how much I disagree with this comment. For me, I love the opening, the closing, and every glorious musical moment in between.
I’m sixteen, hair down to my elbows….singing it out…immersed in it….thanks, Bill, you run the time machine….
unsurpassed rock and roll musicianship and passion. I'd have a Led Zeppelin vs. Who vs. Rolling Stones face off anytime.

Graduated that year - "Behind Blue Eyes" under my photo. Wasn't taking myself too seriously, just really enjoyed 'Who's Next'. Missed Keith's drums and 'sense of fun' when he left.

I was a huge Keith Moon fan. No one can replace him but to not have 43 more years of The Who playing live would be a huge travesty. Kenny Jones didn't do the job but when Zak Starkey came along in the mid '90s, I think he was as close as you can get to Keith without the destructive personality. He even had a kit that Keith had given him as a kid. Scott Devours also did a wonderful job filling in for Zak during some of the shows on the Quadrophenia and More tour.
I was a sophomore in HS when Quadrophenia was released. I wore it out on my turntable and many, many years later, I'm wearing out the Blu ray of the concert they recorded at London's Wembley Arena. A masterful film plays behind the band with many brilliant musical moments and extended versions of 5:15 and Drowned. Even though I miss Zak Starkey on drums, Scott Devours is a fantastic sub for him. It's one of those concerts that demands to be seen from start to finish and played at a high volume! Thanks for playing a song from Quadrophenia!
Great rain, shame about the bolleaux after it. I thought Townsend was a tit 40 years ago, and that opinion's only sharpened since.
Love these guys, but they should have shut it down after losing Keith. There's just no way to get even close.
Man. The goosepimples are reigning over me as I listen to this today to the same degree as they did when I first heard it in North Berwick cinema, Scotland in 1979 when I was 16.

Thanks for taking me back Bill.

I still remember the excitement and the smuggled whisky on the back seat of the bus on the way there from Haddington.

Not so much the journey home LOL.
One of the 4-5  greatest vocal performances in rock history. And the song that exemplifies Townsend's genius, imho.
Very delightful. Thank you! Now I know what I'm going to do after my night shift at home in 4h. Not drink a beer and go to sleep. No, drink a beer, put on the headphones and after 30 or 40 years finally listen to the whole album in one piece again. Thanks for this inspiration! 10 points, what else?
Thanks for letting it play on into Love
I am so glad I listen to RP otherwise I would have thought Who's Next and Tommy to be their best
The Who at their best.
One more time, with soul ....

This album was the soundtrack to my Senior year of High School.  It was 80-81, but I'd just recently been exploring The Who's lesser-known albums.

I spent a fair amount of that year at the beach, and all the references fit right in.

I "discovered" the movie soundtrack first, and then the album.  Still love both to this day.

I agree with you there, Queue. Same era, same influence. Also from Quadrophenia, the line "The beach is a place where a man can feel... he's the only soul in the world that's real". Now that line still resonates in my brain 40 years on.

That's interesting.  I was just thinking it's one of the best screaming songs in rock-n-roll history ha ha!  (With the exception of "Won't get fooled again".Different strokes for different folks.
wish you'd include the longer rain intro
Haven't heard this in a long time...

Memories . . . Class of 74 and this album was a staple sitting in the High School parking lot, jamming to Quadrophenia. "The Real Me" cooks!
One of their best songs which never gets played on the radio

January 2019.  It’s supposed to rain for two days straight in Southern California.  I like to think Bill knew what he was doing when he programmed this track today.  :-)
and if only they had been able to find a decent guitarist they could've been quite good Daltrey was the master of the big scream, the one in Won't get fooled again is better imo.... just

{#Devil_pimp}still zesty !
Great segue from Jackie Wilson' Higher and Higher! Hard to believe there's only 6 years between these songs, the recording and production techniques really went though some major changes during that time frame.
The Who didn't always hold my interest....I loved Quadrophenia, every bit of it
fine
Great powerful song...

Damn. I tried to sing along at the opening and now there's rain on my face.
Dang. You're listening to music, not running for a bus. There's no hurry. Let it play and enjoy the time.

You can't judge a novel based on a paragraph, or a page. Character development takes time.

Quadrophenia is about character development and - the album makes it clear - the adolescent who can't decide who he is and where he fits in the world. You can't express that idea quickly if you want folks to understand its depth and frustration and...eventually...the elation of choice.
Timely, since the storm just ravaged its way down my street like a battering ram.  Quite a light & sound show here in DC.
{#Bananajumprope}{#Bananasplit}{#Dancingbanana_2}Yes yes yes! Thanks Bill.!

I have precisely the opposite sentiments. The song ruins the very relaxing rain at the start of this number. I wonder if there's a mix with just the rain?

I couldn't bear the Who back in their day, when all my intellectual sixth form mates thought they were the dog's bollox, and my feelings haven't changed a jot. Seminal, groundbreaking, innovative - I can understand all those adjectives, but the sound just grates on me and the lyrics have the declarative pomposity of a political pundit. One classic band I'll have to go to my death bed without ever 'getting'. And it's away off to PSD land...

Looooooove!  P——S——D!

For the record, I also grew past "Bridge Over Troubled Water" — another simplistic and overwrought anthem. But I don't hold it against you that you haven't.

At least now we know who could possibly give this epic track a 1.  Looking over your list of 10's vs. 1's there appears to be no rhyme or reason to which great rock classics will get slagged by you.  You have not grown... you've warped.

Time to climb back under your rock in your scree field.
