Comin' from my mouth
You say that I lack the proof
Well baby there might be some
I'm gonna get to the end of my life
Find out everyone was lying
I dont think that I'm afraid anymore
Say that I would rather die trying
Chorus
Whoa, swing me way down south
Sing me something brave from your mouth
And I'll bring you pearls of water on my hips
And the love in my lips
All the love from my lips
This time when he swung the bat
and i found my self laying flat
I wonder
What a way to spend a dime
what a way to use the time
Aint it baby?
I looked at my reflection
in the window walking past and I saw a stranger
Just so scared all the time
It makes me one more reason why
the world's dangerous
Chorus
(Music Solos)
You don't like the sound of the truth
coming from my mouth
You say that I lack the proof
Baby there might be some
Tell me what's wrong with having a little faith
In what your feeling in your heart
Why must we be so afraid
and always so far apart?
Chorus
As this plays, I'm writing another scorching comment to a regional newspaper on the recent Trump caucus win.
I keep using the phrases "truth and facts" and "speaking truth to power" in my comment.
It must be kismet and coincidence. Karma?
What for, precisely?
Almost everything?
Don't be a lopsided ignoramus. It's unbecoming and not useful.
Bidet is a braindead shill. Have some coke.
Would you care to deconstruct this rather arcane comment, please?

Sir, this is a Wendy's.
Remember when we thought 43 was the worst it could get. Makes you want to shed a sentimental tear.
Wholeheartedly agree...A good reminder why G.W. Shrub was the second biggest (formerly #1) asshat to occupy the White House before the orange man came around..
i love natalie's voice so much. this one suits her very well. i may prefer it to patty's, i know - crazy!
I love this tune & group.
And I love RP more each day!!
Such great writing and such an amazing sound. Thanks for playing them!

GWB 43 would be considered a very centrist President by today's standards. Both parties have moved equally to dangerous extremes since then.
Arguably still the worst. We had to endure 8 years of that and 20 years of war.
Not the worst. Trump beats out even Buchanan.

Even if I didn't love the Chicks music I'd still love them for their stance on Bush 43 which, unfortunately, almost scuttled their career.
This documentary is worth a watch - Shut Up and Sing (2006)
they sure can harmonize.
Could there be anything sexier that a woman singing these words?
Swing me way down south
Sing me something brave from your mouth
And I'll bring you pearls of water on my hips
And the love in my lips
All the love from my lips
And with these voices, too! *swoon*

And there's that map of Texas again! in case anyone's forgotten what it looks like since the last time they saw it a mile back.
Lovely honest lyrics from a lovely band Patty Griffin. An easy 9 for me -- (and a 10 for the Chicks themselves, har)

Not on the side of the road... in the road.
Not a going-my-way thumb... matching dresses.
Damn.

I agree with that
Good Lord, they're artists and they did the right thing! It's part of our rights and who we are as Americans to criticize the President, especially when that person is doing the wrong thing.

Bush was a decent man. But fuck the rest of his war mongering tribe.

You're right. 44 was worse.
I think you have the number wrong, that would be 45 was worse; in fact, the worst President we have ever seen. God help us that we can stop the authoritarian take over on November 3rd. Great song by The Chicks, by the way!

You're right. 44 was worse.
Pretty sure it's Patty Griffin who did the constructing on that song. At least according to Wikipedia:
"Truth No. 2" and "Top of the World" were originally recorded by Patty
Griffin for a 2000 album that went unreleased. "I Believe in Love" made
its debut on the 2001 telethon America: A Tribute to Heroes.
Great song, tho. Happy to hear it covered in lovely voices.

My dad went to school with Maine's grandfather. She's true country.
I wonder what said friend says about Luke Bryan, Alan Jackson, Florida Georgia Line, Brooks and Dunn and their ilk?
This leans into alt-country territory to be sure, but it's a helluva lot closer to real Country than the standard "Girl in jean shorts; truck by the pond; red solo cup" drivel that makes up modern Nashville Country.

A friend and I were talking recently. We came to the conclusion that "country" music began as "I was drunk, then I found God and I'm sorry for what I did." Next phase, "I'm drunk and bad things are happening." Today, "Aw, f*** it. Let's go get drunk."
I'm guessing if you're not into formulaic music, you don't like the Blues. Or Gaelic. Or Reggae. Or Folk. For me, sometimes the results can be more than the sum of the formula.

Agreed! In fact, even if what they had to say about #43 didn't jive with what I thought at the time, I'd still say "speak your Truth!" cuz the only thing worse than a bad opinion is no opinion at all. In my opinion...and I'll go +2 on this one, for the message more than the music; it's a 7 now. Long Live RP and the 1st amendment!!
couldn't agree more...

I'm inclined to agree. I'd add that if "Country Music" is only meant for people from the country then that's rather limiting. Sounds like part of the "real Americans" notion that's popular in certain political circles these days.

I didn't know she could sing.
I thought it WAS Patty Griffin!
Are we sure she isn't harmonizing in there? One of those Chicks sure sounds like her, if not.
I'm in my tree talking to the Dixie Chicks and they're making me feel better.
They were maligned by the country western dullards for outspoken views.
Check out this excellent cover from Natalie Maines

How some girls banned together to kill an abusive boyfriend and dump his body.
That's a rather good premise line for a movie. Hmmmm....

We need an emoticon of head-dancing at our desks.
Not enough eclectic stations out there tho. And I picked this one, because it's the best.

Me too.
Need some VPI....Voice Print Identification.
Every hillbilly has his own favorite AM wavelength.
Maybe you should read your own local paper, Chumba?: https://www.seattletimes.com/entertainment/lsquoyrsquoallrsquo-needs-no-translation-us-country-music-is-big-abroad/

The Dixie Chicks are wonderful musicians and song writers, imho.
Were you in London? When W invaded Iraq? When Natalie said something unkind about shrub? And his idolatrous droolers boycotted The Chicks for speaking negatively about a guy who needed help with his shoe laces? Altho I understand that album set records on the bootleg charts. Oh, and some fans delivered plenty of death threats to the band and their families. Natalie just can't seem to clam it up. I luv the DC!
So true! Great song and the Dixie Chicks are way cool, but Patty ought to be the one playing this song on RP!
Carol and I got to hear Patty sing this one live a month or so ago. It was a real treat.
You just defined Truth No. 1.

Me likey like very much!
Always good to hear the Chicks
Me likey like very much!
A few notes...
A. Not the first time she said that, even reportedly as she was being recruited to the band. They won her over with talent, and with the great songs they chose to record.
B. Don't blame her if she equates country music with the collection of country music fans that turned on them for essentially the same thing- stating their view where someone could broadcast it.
C. Doubt she wants you back as a fan, assuming you ever were. Your loss, her gain. In my opinion.
It's the way Patty wants it.....she is a world known singer/songwriter with none of the crap that goes with being a superstar in this crazy world. She has a HUGE worldwide following and yet can roam the streets of Austin (with hubby Mr Plant) and not be harassed.
Rando, you may know there is another non-famous-but-very-influential songwriter living a stone's throw from you. Susan Gibson. The Dixie Chicks recorded her 'Wide Open Spaces', from which she's made a small fortune. And maintained a degree of sanity in the process.
Austin folks generally seem to leave music celebs alone. I've stood two feet from Billy Gibbons a couple times. Patty and Robert hand out candy to neighborhood treat-or-treaters.
I'm sure they'll really miss you.
Did she say she disliked country music or did she say something like "only idiots like country music." One is simply a statement of her personal taste and one is indeed an insult to country music fans.
I'm sure the lady will soak her pillow with tears at the thought.
When these women were banned from country radio, I went out and immediately bought every CD they had released, even though I had never heard of note of their music. The next day, I was in love with all of them. Still am, in a non-creepy, non-stalker, no-restraining-order-needed kind of way. I mean, how sexy can you get?
Sing me something brave from your mouth
And I'll bring you pearls of water on my hips
And the love in my lips
All the love from my lips
(Yeah, I know they didn't write it; they sing it like they mean it, though, and that's what I value.)

Both parties… for fucks sake people. nonsense..
