We're rotten fruit, we're damaged goods
What the hell, we've got nothing more to lose
One gust and we will probably crumble
We're backdrifters
This far but no further, I'm hanging off a branch
I'm teetering on the brink
Oh, honey sweet, so full of sleep
I'm backsliding

You fell into our arms, you fell into our arms
We tried but there was nothing we could do
Nothing we could do

All evidence has been buried
All tapes have been erased
But your footsteps give you away
So you're backtracking

Ah, ah, ah, you fell into our arms, you fell into our arms
We tried but there was nothing we could do
Nothing we could do
You fell into our, ah, you fell into a...

Any Radiohead post-The Bends gets a 9 from me!
Great transition! Not only sonically rewarding, but just right for my musical appetite right now. It's nice when you feel like the universe is listening...

Yeah, it's amazing how closeminded people can be, don't you think?. If they don't understand other people's likes and dislikes they call them closeminded... Anyway, I think it's a solid song and it's a great way to let your mind drift away. Gets an 8 from me. Just don't listen to it for the melody ;) .

Finally bought this album (and Amnesiac) a few weeks ago, and this song is an unexpected favorite of mine. Rock, rock on, and I can't wait till they put out something new.

That's why I like this song! The oscillating background make my head go all weird when I listen with stereo headphones.

Man, if I listened to this stuff all day long I think I'd have to hurt myself.

This guy can't sing...reminds me of Jeff Buckley. Guess he's an acquired taste. I like the instrumentation, and "OK Computer" was a damn good CD. The vocalist just grates me.

I really like Hail to the Thief, probably because it sounds so different.

Started with 4, ended up beeing a 6.

Radiohead have revealed little details about the new album to be released in 2006. I have written a couple of articles, including an mp3 of "Arpeggi" and video link for "House of Cards." (click here) (click here)
Woho, backdrifts! 10 NO DOUBT! Excellent piece of music this, just listen to the text.

Wow... THAT'S open-minded. See, I'm being sarcastic. I'm actually implying that you aren't open-minded at all. Get it? Hello? Man, are you ever thick. And I DON'T mean that sarcastically, I actually think that. Although I'm open-minded on the subject.

Can someone PLEASE explain why Tori Amos song forums are filled with bitching while the songs receive 7.5's, while Radiohead forums are filled with unadulterated praise and scores in the 6's? Someone's not doing their job, on one end or the other.
This is a wake up call for any of us over 50 baby boomers who haven't heard any new great music in a while. This is a 10 and so far, I like almost everything I hear out of these guys. Ow, Ow, Ow, Ow!

This song is really cool live. Instead of the sound effects at the end, Jonny Greenwood plays a rather long (and complicated) backwards guitar solo. I stood in awe of it.

I'm so glad to hear someone else say that...I LOVE playing this tune in my car...the harmonics are wild. Very solid track off HTTT.
I don't get it. Sometimes when I think an artist/band deserves a 4 they can go up to a 10. However when at first I think an artist deserves a 7 I always keep it at a 7. Radiohead is the ONLY exception to that rule so far. If I wasn't a college student I would immedietly buy all of their CDs.
Ahhhhh I was waiting for this song. good job whoever uploaded it!! One of my fave radiohead tracks
Radiohead is an awesome band, but i don' think that they can top there album Ok Computer. Check it out it is insanely good. Thanks for playing Radiohead.

I enjoy Radiohead, but then again I never really pay much attention to the lyrics and message - the appeal to me is completely in the music. In fact, does it really make sense to look to entertainers and artists for guidance on your political views? I'd sooner turn to my stockbroker for views on heart surgery, or Kant for perspectives on how to design a data warehouse.
I really like Backdrifts and everything on Hail to the thief - a haunting melody. Best song? Hmmm. Tie between There there and Backdrifts
I really like this Radiohead song. Has kind of a dance beat to it that makes it a little less, shall we say, depressing than other songs of theirs.
Enough with the Radiohead already!!
This would be perfect film music. Say, the film "Pi." This track would have worked quite well during virtually any sequence. Or Darren Aronofsky's other masterful work, "Requiem for a Dream." Hopefully Thom and the boys will score something soon.

Whether you are a liberal or not is beside the point. What true discourse are you talking about? You, in your previous post, ASSumed that MOST conservatives' opinions are "not their own, and not well thought out". Is that really what your trying to tell everybody? Because it's most definitely the kind of sweeping generaliztation that equals dogcrap. If that's what you consider "true discourse", then I'll steer away from debating any topics with you, because, I, Rush Limbaugh(as you labeled me), cannot win. Even with logic and reason it is no match for "label and dissmiss" types like yourself.
This one is great! I just love Radiohead! :)
OK it is rare that I hit my mute button on my laptop but this song makes me do it every time. I do not switch from RP, I just enjoy a moment of silence for this Radiohead song. It annoys me to no end. I like most of what Radiohead does and I'm not going to suggest that Bill take it off the play list. I'm just voting with my humble opinion saying that I can not stand this song.

As a matter of fact, I would be so bold as to say your post is maybe the least "well thought out" one on this thread.

Aw, come on, lighten up, people! Radiohead may be politically motivated but first and foremost it's about the music. And this is a great cut from a great album (but not the best song - IMHO that belongs to "2+2 = 5", by far the best song they've done since "Ok Computer".) Isn't it funny how RH split people right down the middle? If you love 'em you REALLY love 'em, and if you hate 'em . . . well, you get the idea!
I do like 2+2=5 a lot, its certainly one of my favorites on the new album. I think radiohead is politically motivated to some degree, but I don't see their agenda as being leveled against a particular group, unless of course the group is the "establishment". I can see where you could see curent events and expect some of the songs on the new album are critiques of those things. However, I think radiohead is more interested in pointing out the fallacy of our power structures and the effects our way of life has on the psyche than taking on any particular group. I really could not see them writing a song like "Bushleaguer" by Pearl Jam where the names of the critiquee as so evident.
the live performance of this song is freakin great... on another note: can you separate an artist from their politics? (not that it's a problem for me with radiohead, but i'm just curious)

Saw RadioHead a couple night ago in SD. Very hot band. Great reception by the HUGE crowd.
I was at that show, too, Coppertop. Really impressed with them. Loved when the audience did a collective WTF about 1 hr 15 m when Thom said "Thanks. Good night!" :-) Of course, they came back and played for 45 more minutes. This song...above average for them. About a 7.
Saw the concert a few days ago...If you're a radiohead fan you must go to see them, they are so good. I really could not help but start to feel like I was I was witnessing a special moment in our pop cultural history. A moment maybe as profound as a David Bowie on the Ziggy Stardust tours, or Zeppelin in '75. They started playing the first few tracks off the new album, Thom dressed in a suit coat with numbers encircling the mid section. He got to a violent little dance towards the end of "2 + 2 = 5" and then rushed over to setup quickly for "sit down, stand up." He sang it as robotically as he could, then got into another little violent dance towards the end. The next song..setup...all of this is done quickly, no comments-Backslider. He did it again as mechanically as possible, till it came time for the violent little dance again, this time, he threw off the jacket and in an over-the-top sense, started jumping all over the place, letting parts of the song screwup. It was almost as if he was mocking his own disaffectation. The show was of course, sold out. It was really the last time he seemed to use anger in his show all night. The rest of it was playful, which really seems more in line with the rest of the band members. This band works together to make music together, and they love too. All night they seemed right on their songs, though occasionally they would improvise out a little piece just to let the crowd know it was live.

I still don't quite understand all the Radiohead hype. There are a few of their songs I like, but most of the time when I click on to find out who is singing a really annoying or horrible song I hear on RP, it turns out its them. They seem to have a huge, almost cult-like, following though. More power to you... but I think I'll just hit the mute button. :-k

I think Radiohead has the courage to constantly follow their musical and philosophical integrity, despite what is trendy. So I'm not surprised they have detractors. I love them.

I think of this song as the kind of music Moby tries to make and fails. The textures are nice an the lyrics are open enough to let the listener add to the song's meaning. Good tune from a good band
