Don't ask me
What you know is true
Don't have to tell you
I love your precious heart

I
I was standing
You were there
Two worlds collided
And they could never tear us apart

We could live
For a thousand years
But if I hurt you
I'd make wine from your tears

I told you
That we could fly
'Cause we all have wings
But some of us don't know why

I was standing
You were there
Two worlds collided
And they could never, ever tear us apart

I (Don't ask me)
I was standing (You know it's true)
Mm, you were there (Worlds collided)
Two worlds collided (We're shining through)
And they could never tear us apart

You (Don't ask me)
You were standing (You know it's true)
I was there (Worlds collided)
Two worlds collided (We're shining through)
And they could never tear us apart

I-I-I
I was standing
You were there

Lots of music before this came on. Quality just stands out.

Grade 12. But yes. This song does that.

I was fortunate enough to visit East Berlin at Christmastime circa 1986. I've described it as going from color (West Berlin) to black-and-white. Bullet holes still visible in some places, 40 years on. Powerful experience.

I tend to think the arrival of Nirvana made this band somewhat obsolete.

I like that the sax solo transitions the song from tragic/sad to hopeful/happy.  That's brilliantly done!
If you like INXS, or even think they're OK, check out the remastered concert at Wembley Stadium, "Live Baby Live".  They were incredible live. I gained a new appreciation.

As a drummer who normally worships the great drum Gods in Rush, Genesis, Yes, Zep, Who, etc., this tune has some of the tastiest drum licks I have ever heard.
One of my favourite bands. The best of Oz.
30+ years-old and Hutchence voice on certain lyrics still hits hard and true like a very righteous hammer.
Everytime I hear INXS i think of season 3 of the The X-files, the Clyde Bruckman's Final Repose episode.

Ya!
This  very fine tune is in many ways so brilliantly composed and in some way I find it innovative in its structure of harmonies . Just listen to the way the sounds are layered in this song. I think this composition definitely deserves the top award.

Perhaps you could expand on what it was that started on January 1, 1980 and ended on December 31, 1989 that this song embodies so well?

I'm making a playlist of my favorite sax solos from a few decades and genres, but I don't think this will make it. It is just to slow for me. I agree  though that the solo is one of the best of the 80's.
Love this song! Joe Cocker's version is worth an ear, too (sax solo being replaced by guitar).

I didn't really understand why this song was so massive down under.  Then recently saw this version in a commercial... some serious impact there:

But, you don't really hear it anymore (unless you're listening to the 80's channel on Sirius XM).  So it's OK by me, 30 years later.
My fav INXS, along with Mystify Me
Well done William

This album was kick ass... Still is...
I've just heard Gary Glitter's " I love you, love" slowed down in this, which is worrying.
R.I.P Michael Hutchence. Good memories of an 80s stalwart band & his Jaggeresque swagger.

Great saxophone bits in this...

Since Big Log was on Robert Plant's second solo album, The Principle of Moments, it wasn't Page's riff.  Robbie Blunt was the guitarist on and co-writer of Big Log.  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robbie_Blunt

In terms of style & music, INXS is one of my absolute favorite popular musical acts of all time. Michael Hutchence had an amazing stage presence and vocal intensity, with some at least half-decent introspective lyrics. Almost a Jim Morisson-like appeal, but with a different style, more urban. Like a half intelligent grownup city kid going on the prowl.

I realize that's a bit cheezy, all of it. But I guess everyone is entitled to a little cheezyness from time 2 time, I see I'm not the only one on this comment list with similar feelings.

and if anyone out there has the same feeling about this band, keep on rockin'!

I'm not sure I have the same feeling, but nevertheless this was a fabulous band. IMHO, they lost a skosh of vitality when Hutchence died. It happens.
IF I ever hurt you I'd make wine from your tears.

I so like the video version of this song, with it's extended string lead in.  The video itself was pretty cool, too.

This was in heavy rotation when I was in high school and I got tired of it.  Now I like it again as I reminisce.  It's a good song and I'm glad I like listening to it again.
I wish he was not dead.  Love this song!  {#Heartkiss}
Agreed.  It doesn't get more pop than this.

Everybody in my mushrooming multitude of churches loves this song...

"Need You Tonight" was a good tune as well.
Still a very good song. I love his voice, he was an excellent singer.
Hey, wow, still sounds pretty good...and I can never forget how on my first trip to Bali in '88 my manic Brit mate "Short-Circuit" Mike kept this fine INXS album almost constantly playing on the jammin' little stereo we had in the pool-side bungalow in Kuta...
They played in my college in my old home town in OZ in front of a couple of hundred people or less several times on their way up in the late 70s. They were great then. MC had really bad skin.

I hear what you're saying - have thought that about many, many bands. But I think this song holds up remarkably well. Hard to believe it's 25 years old.

I am so glad that I had the privelage to see INXS w/ MH in the day! Awesome performances!!!
Ahhhhh, this was my very FIRST CD I ever bought — and it's still in my collection today, 24 years later.  Now that's some staying power!

I remember really liking the video for "Mediate", although I never got into "Kick" that much. I really liked "Welcome to Wherever You Are" when I got it in music club subscription, but apparently the album went nowhere commercially.

Maybe the fact that I have no memories, good or bad, associated with this song makes me objective enough to say that this song is nowhere near their best work, although I do love that sax.  I never liked this song - I always preferred "Disappear" and "Suicide Blonde," probably because of the beat. (So, awright - I wasn't into slow-dancing, so maybe I'm NOT objective.)

Anyway, I could never just sit and groove on this song. Still can't.  Sorry.  I loved INXS. RIP Michael. You selfish idiot.
This is our wedding song.  First dance.
RIP Michael.  You and the band were one of the best.
I was never a huge fan of INXS, but this is arguably their best song - especially with that wailing sax solo (although I always wished in went a little longer).

Classic :)

close my eyes and I'm drunk and slow dancing with my high school sweetheart....

nostalgic.

As a child of the 80s, this really takes me back.  I hadn't listened to INXS in a while!

Nah....make it a chain coffee joint...can't ever have enough of them on every street.

In their prime, this was a terrific band. Listen Like Thieves and Kick were as good as anything produced in the '80s—and that would include U2 and R.E.M. RIP, Michael Hutchence

Not their best, but listenable

There are definitely other tracks off this album that I would rather hear on RP. Nice to hear INXS in the mix, though.
