Such fond memories of this song. It came out when I was a young kid from western Oklahoma driving my first car, a 1964 Rambler with a 3 speed column shift manual transmission, the side of the car all dented up on one side, thinking I was king of the road playing this tune at full blast.

The greatest ryhthm plus melody song that ever there has been.  Give up trying for something better people.  Or, rather, keep trying but it's unlikely there's anything better out there in the soundscape.  Happy to say I'm wrong.  The fun lyrics are a nice plus too.

Saw War at a big outdoor festival in Denver back in the 70's. They were the last band before main act, Bob Seeger. Seeger was good but he was no match for War.

Still one of the finest performances I've ever seen - so tight, so crisp, so good!

Wow....I had to bump this funky groove from 9 to 10.  Not only does it remind me of my dad, it's further evidence of how much of a "playa" he was back in the day.  And as a kid, I remember loving this record amongst the 1000 or so LPs he had.  And then fast forward to the late 90s/early 00's, and boy was I a "playa" too!  I won't go into too many details, just imagine a 20 something pizza delivery guy and king of his neighborhood bumping this tune while returning to the restaurant, knowing exactly how to extend that drive to include a "paid" smoke break.  And yeah....some details I have to leave out to protect the guilty.  Thank you BillG for playing this staple even against the haters' haterations.

Just saw these guys give an outdoor concert last week here in San Jose, CA...Home to many a low rider...
The park was full and there were people all around the perimiter watching and socializing from outside the fence.  One of the biggest turnouts I've seen for a downtown concert.  WAR put on a great show and I was really impressed with the talent of the members.  They definitely still "got it".  Really fun show!

Agree! In my case it was 1980 and I had a 1978 Firebird going south on the PCH near Santa Barbara. Had to turn the volume up to 11!

I haven't found it to be true that this is the only song people think of from WAR.  Maybe it depends where one lives.  I've found that people tend to remember "Spill The Wine", "The Cisco Kid" and "Why Can't We Be Friends?" as well.

Suddenly I am again about 10 years old, riding my Western Flyer bike, metallic green with chrome sissy bar and aluminum-foil "mag wheels" in my spokes, and my new neighborhood friend, Cletus, is riding along next to me on his shiny blue Schwinn, and we're singing, "Take a little trip, take a little trip...with me-ee..." and GOD, THOSE WERE THE DAYS!
