Lyrics:

We want freedom of speech
But we all talkin' at the same time
We say we want peace
But nobody wants to change their own mind
No, they don't

So it goes on and on and on and on and on
For a thousand years
A thousand years I say
And it goes on and on and on and on and on
What language are your tears?
Are your tears

Bup-bup-bup, badup-bup-badup-bup
Bup-bup-bup, badup-bup-badup-bup
Bup-bup-bup-bup, badup
Badup, badup, badup, badup, badup

Everybody wants to live the life of kings and queens
But nobody wants to stay and plow the fields
Everybody wants to tell their neighbors how to live
But nobody wants to listen to how they feel

And so it goes on and on and on and on and on
For a thousand years
A thousand years I say
And it goes on and on and on and on and on
What language are your tears?
Are your tears

But what I got to say right now is
Love enough? Yay-ah
Love enough? Yay-ah
Love enough?
Or can you love some more?
Is the love enough? Yay-ah
Love enough? Yay-ah
Love enough?
Or can you love some more?

Is your love enough? Yay-ah
Your love enough? Yay-ah
Is your love enough?
Or can you love some more?
Is your love enough? Yay-ah
Your love enough? Yay-ah
Is your love enough?
But tell me can you love some more?

It goes on and on, on and on and on (uh)
For a thousand years I say, ay ay ay ay ay ay, ay ay, ay-ay-ay
And it goes on and on and on and on and on
What language are your tears?
Are your tears

GentlemenWhat mother nature gives
Mankind refuse to let live
Taking the universe in their own hand
(A whisper)
Short circuiting the positive
Charging the negative
Causing the most unusual circumstances

Every day we rise back and battle off the fight again
Hoping that our hearts will receive our love total (oh, yeah, yeah)
Blessed words we speak again, lovely words to do my friend
For us to live in this dark garden of Eden

So tell me is your love enough? Yay-ah
Your love enough? Yay-ah (oh-ay-ah)
Is your love enough?
Or can you love some more? (who needs that patter)
Is your love enough? (Either), yay-ah
Your love enough? Yay-ah (oh-ay)
Is your love enough?
Oh, tell me, tell me, tell me

QuestionWhat language do you laugh in?
What language do you cry in?
What language do you dance in?
Make romance in?
What language do you make love in?
Or pray to the above in?

What language are your fears?
What language are your tears?

Believe in coexistence

Geez, this is really rich from a song that's pretty peachy to begin with. Why don't you start at home Mr. Franti?
oh so mellow... drifting into enlightenment... love is enough...
"Believe in co-existence." What loathsome treacle.

Off this album, yeah...But I STILL introduce my poetry unit at school with "Speaking of Tongues."
"Love like your life depends on it - because it does!"

Another Franti upload added. Probably my favourite track off this album.

Like every Franti song ever, as far as I can tell. He lacks any nuance.
He just speaks sincerely from the heart. Nuance does not apply here.

Apparently this passes for humour around Ravenna, Italy.
Amen....

Even more, the chords to Dear God by XTC! Exactly!
That's what I heard too. I was thinking it was an acoustic version of Dear God right up until he started singing. Still, I wonder if this was intentional. Dear God was one of the most controversial songs of its time, so perhaps Franti wanted to get a bit of that going here...

He is not trying for nuance. This is wartime. A time for in your face commentary, not nuance.
It's okay but I can't stand the chorus.
I thought this was Martin Sexton (not a bad thing).

This sounds like a late night stoned jam... not that there's anything wrong with that... Just that it never gets to a chorus... not that I've ever had any experience with that...
