What, exactly, constitutes an "old codger" in your opinion, Sir?  I just turned 55 and I love this music. I love most of what RP plays. If that makes me an "old codger," then by god, I'll raise that flag proudly. Take your youth and shove it. (In a nice way, of course - us "old codgers" still remember manners.)

I'm 67, going on 40, and I still listen to and revel in the tracks I tuned in on AM when I was 8, 10, 12.  That music will never grow old, by any sensible standards.  Indeed, I feel badly for the punk hipsters who never heard Light My Fire, Somebody to Love, Voodoo Child, Sunshine Superman, Bad Moon Rising, etc et al in the context of the times that gave rise to it.   If that's codger, I may make it to 87 and in fine form.
It's a nice sounding track - yes, the lyrics are minimal and simplistic, but can't complain - what if it was an instrumental, etc... Just an accompaniment to the music - well, that's how I see it, anyway 👍
Too much wall of sound of - what 2 chords?
Um . . . maybe a little more effort in the lyric department next time??
For some reason reminds me of Scottish band: The Twilight Sad.

I was singing and happy, and a ghost came in my house?
My house...I don't know he says from a darkened hillside.
Asking me why on earth I stopped singing, and went into hiding.

Everybody in my alien space craft loves this song, which is lyrically an effective exercise in minimalism with marvelous music...  time flies when we're having fun...

Just right for ambling along on your steel horse heading for Starbucks.

Or................bouncing along in a large truck in the veldt heading towards the sunset.

Well, one out of two ain't bad. Starbucks can wait.

Outstanding R&R beat.

I be the holy ghost of big stud Romeo Tuma...  love this song...
OFF TOPIC.

Bill just talked about his "listen on iPhone apps" and whatnot.  Well, this afternoon, I drove from downtown Boston to the Orleans rotary and back listening to Radio Paradise through my iPhone through my car stereo.  Way cool for an old fart.

.... we now return you to our regular programming ...
I heard this in late November '07, near midnight, driving along Rte. 169 and Lake Mead near Valley of Fire State Park in Nevada, heading to our hotel in Echo Bay .  Sunroof open, a zillion stars, the 50 mph speed limit merely a suggestion, blasting my ears half deaf. Highly cinematic and memorable.
Old codger music? I'm 56 and quite like this band. My 16 year old son was raving about them and made me check them out on you tube.

Everybody in my church loves this song...

YEEHAW!  {#Cowboy}
This is one of those bands helping form that new genre of mock-rock I can only refer to as.
"Post-My Morning Jacket"

So you could sleep
Good for you!

Thought I was hearing this for the first time.  I have never before made such a change as this but 3 to 7.  Sorry guys it must have been in bad company on a really bad day for me the first time i heard it.

Isn't it strange that, in this age of electronics, the communication of dead loved ones stays available forever?

Maybe you "don't get" or are "not impressed" by this song, and it's not a musical suite with tempo changes and modulations, but there is certainly a melody.

Don't totally disagree with the comment on lack of melodic development, but I don't agree that it only increases in volume. Lots of harmony and layers of instrumentation added to build a wall of found.

Yes, as a matter of fact, you are.   Go stand in the corner.

This song starts out slow but builds to an amazing work of sonic art in no time at all...just like RP, it can coast along almost in the background and then it can still leap right up and impress me mightily...
I was listening to the song "Factory" the other day on my iPod and it struck me how much a part of my musical soundscape these guys have become...and my mind goes back to the very first time I heard of them, with "Our Swords" on RP from the stellar Everything All the Time record.  Have I taken these vital things for granted?  What would life be like without Band of Horses or RP?  It'd be like wandering, wandering in hopeless night; like being lost in The Wasteland...(of TS Eliot, not The Who)...

That's it precisely! I just can't stand them.

Not bad!
I figured out why I love this band - they are exploding with talent and confidence. They don't creep into a song - they swan-dive from thirty feet up, eyes wide open, and they wrestle with it while yelling at the top of their lungs. And there never seems to be any doubt about who's gonna win.  They're not shy.

Yep, I love them. {#Dancingbanana_2}
This is the song that got me hooked on this band.... awesome!
Does anyone hear a touch of Ozzy in this?
Awesome....even more awesome live.
The album cover is very cool!
I really like this band the more I hear of them.

I live alone and these days there IS a ghost in my house. {#Shhh}

Really really love this band! 'Cease to begin' is a huge improvement on 'Everything all the time' - which itself wasn't bad at all. But a lot of the appeal for me is nostalgia, I was a huge follower of alternative music back in the 90's, and these guys pull it all together, from alt.country like the Jayhawks ( on 'General Specific'), through shoegazers like Ride ( on this track), to even a touch of Janes Addiction-'lite' (without the funk) (on ' Islands on the Coast') - and then there is 'Detlef Schrempf' - which is just a smooth draught of pure beauty! I dont live in the States anymore, so I dont hear the 'hype' - if there is much hype around this band, I only hear the music courtesy of RP, so thanks for that and for the chance to throw this comment out into the void!
Cheers!
There's something about this tune that pulls me in every time. Not sure what it is, I just know that I really like it.

Not their best track but they're a great band. Liked them ever since I heard them on the "Inspired Bicycles" video on Youtube.

There's a first for everything {#Lol} Yes, 38 Special were a southern US band in the vain of Lynyrd Skynyrd, but they rocked pretty hard and they released a couple of good albums (they put out many albums but only 2 or 3 were good) IMHO. The Ramones were a punk band so they they always rocked hard - so hearing them in the same sentence isn't completely off the wall. However, on reflection, 38 Special started in the 70s but it was most prominent in the 80s. I should have used Cheap Trick instead because they rose to fame and produced their best albums in the 1970s.
does anyone else have problems with a ghost or a band of ghosts, there all around me,,,, there just not in houses.. there in the woods there in the cities stay out of

Saw them about 1.5 years ago.  They were decent, but nothing over the top...but then again they were pretty new then.  If you enjoy their music then the concert is probably worth it; if not, a concert is not going to change your opinion.
