Sonny step right up into the time machine
we'll set the dial for 1983
To the DKs right down in Wilmington
Nightsticks swinging, tear gassed air turns green
In the time machine. Time machine!

We took our lumps and ran between the casualties
Buick full of bloddy rags, and black flag cassettes
I think I liked em better with Dez Cadenza.
Sonny are you still too cool? How did you like your day at school
In the time machine. Time machine

Put you in a time machine, put you in a time
machine see how you do.

I'm surprised no one has posted what this song is actually about and why it sounds (tempo, etc.) the way it does:

Did you say Crackers

Over the course of about 3 months, I went from:
"Who the HELL is 'Cracker'?
to
"I don't NOT like 'Cracker'
to
"hey! This is 'Cracker!'
to
"Damn...I rather dig 'Cracker'!!"

Thanks, William. Thanks, RP..... for opening my ears and brain to music I'd NEVER otherwise hear. I've lost count on the "Life Debts via Music" I owe RP.
its friday evening

we need more of this
And it's 1976!
OK. But, not their best tune!

How hard is this band trying to sound like The Jam?

Time is  a circle. Cracker used their time machine to show The Jam how to jam.
motorhead?

Great guitar parts.

Hmmm. If this one got a little bit better it could maybe kinda come even close to Drivin' N Cryin' circa mid-80s. Live. However, nothing touches that. Simply nothing. Esp. not Cracker!

Speaking of Drivin' N Cryin', why are you trying to break my heart, Mr. Bill?

Great tempo changes!
Rock it Bill !!!!!

And to Time Has Come Today.  Great segue!

I may steal that for my radio show.
Last rock band on the planet.
Holy shit, that smokes! And it's a whole bunch too short. It's only a buck, I'll go get it on iTunes

wow, not a huge cracker fan, but this is kicks!

I got totally over excited thinkin this was a track from The Jam that I’d never heard. May not be The Jam but still a good song!

As a lover of The Jam and SLF I can't help but enjoy this.  Thanks boys.
EFFIN YEAH!!!!!  {#Drummer} {#Bananajam}
MUSIC is the Closest thing we will ever have to a Time Machine.
Cake ———-> Herb Alpert &TJB ————> Cracker

compare and contrast this morning, eh?

Great rock, I hear some Warren Zevon in the vocal. .
Send me back to 1983 when Camper van Beethoven was a local band (Santa Cruz) and I was too ignorant to know how cool they were.

Yah, something off of Monsters or Too High To Die. I heard it, too!

Play some other Craker cuts: please....  this is a good album but there are so many other GREAT Cracker tunes to play....

I thought this was going to be a Meat Puppets song when it started. Which would have really been great, but Cracker'll do.
I love Cracker, saw them in Copenhagen years ago. A great band, don´t miss Camper.
Wow, what a bring down after Zorba the Greek. I'm sure this would sound better against a lot of other music, but after Zorba the Greek by Herb Alpert, this is little better than noise.
This song always reminds me of a bit Don and Mike used to do on WJFK radio in DC.  Basically Mike would just shout "time machine!" in  redneck accent whenever the concept of time travel came up.  Like the song though.
He sings like a young Weller.
GREAT SONG!

Check out "Hand Me My Inhaler" (not on the RP playlist) for even more kick-ass near-punk rawness. This album rocks out more than any Cracker in years and hasn't a weak track in the bunch. And go see the show!

How does it compare to "100 Flower Power Maximum" from "The Golden Age"? 100FPM sounds to me like what you describe - to me, it rocks frenetically, then nearly leaves the rails altogether. Kinda like a centrifuge flying apart....

I guess I just don't like Cracker very much anymore... too bad that.
Wow!  Cracker channeling Stiff Little Fingers!  Hell yes...turn it up!!!
HELLS YEAH!!!!!

Volume just went way up.
mmmm - my first hearing of this one. Sounds like in the style of The Jam. cheers

I'm hearing The Jam from their earlier days.

I thought I had all the Cracker albums!  If this is new its a radical departure from the music they've been playing lately...  almost sounds like Camper van Beethoven.

Dude, listen to Yalla Yalla.  I'm still tryin' to wrap my head around that one. So much balls it almost strays into "too much balls" territory.  But not quite.  ;-)

{#Iamwithstupid} Now it's up to 6.4, .....that's better. And Radio_Doc {#Arrowd}, I agree with you.

This song is good. Why do so many RP listeners hate rock n roll?

Some days I think that if the Stones were "a new indie band" and played here the same people would be bitching about all the noise and bravado of Sticky Fingers or Exile on Main St.

And before one of the usual suspects jumps up and accuses me of comparing Cracker with the Rolling Stones, don't bother.

Sorry naysayers. Great tune. Glad to hear these guys rockin' out.

sorry: I'm not 12 years -old.

Sounds like The Buzzcocks to me, but I think the whole point of the song is to sound like punk.

Good rockin' stuff.  I needed that.  Think I need some more, actually.
thanks a lot, I need another new Cracker CD like I need a hole in my head!
nice riff!  {#Cowboy}

Y'know this would normally be SO not my cup of tea, yet it touched me...perhaps reminding me of listening to "roughshod primitive hormonal" rock in my early teens....
I'll always be grateful to Cracker's Davey Faragher and Michael Urbano for helping make John Hiatt's music even better, both on the road and in the studio.

Good boys.

Vocals aside, this reminds me quite a bit of 70s Midnight Oil...
