There are a bunch of good old Stones 45s out there. I picked up Mothers little Helper the other day for $3. Way cool to spin this stuff.
Love the Stones but this is awful

Brilliant! Classic+. The 1960s-early '70s Stones were legendary and incomparable. Post 1978...never mind.

My first reaction, just now, was along the lines of the average as of this date (6). But after listening to it—I mean really listening—it is GOOD! And not just because it was an early work of a genius band. Their genius was already starting to show through back then.... ==> 9

What I wrote was that "lyrically, very few (if any) rock/pop acts were releasing tunes like "Mother's Little Helper" or 19th Nervous Breakdown" at that time." - meaning 1965. The songs you listed are after the two I mentioned. "Lola" was released in 1970, but The Kinks were another one of the few acts writing songs with social commentary in the early part of the 1960s. I am in the middle of reading Keith Richards' memoir "Life". I cannot tell you how wonderful a read this is for even the casual Stones fan. My wife hated the Stones and read it and now she's a convert

The only thing that saves this tune...which I kinda like...is that it doesn't sound too much like The Stones. Almost Mama's and Papa's-ish.

Go back and take a listen to the Stones first 3 or 4 albums. Half of the records were just covers of blues songs, usually obscure ones, but still covers. It took a long time before they hit their stride and originality.
