When I wake up early in the morning
Lift my head, I'm still yawning
When I'm in the middle of a dream
Stay in bed, float upstream (float upstream)

Please don't wake me
No, don't shake me
Leave me where I am
I'm only sleeping

Everybody seems to think I'm lazy
I don't mind, I think they're crazy
Running everywhere at such a speed
Till they find there's no need (there's no need)

Please don't spoil my day
I'm miles away
And after all
I'm only sleeping

Keeping an eye on the world going by my window
Taking my time
Lying there and staring at the ceiling
Waiting for a sleepy feeling

Please don't spoil my day
I'm miles away
And after all
I'm only sleeping

Keeping an eye on the world going by my window
Taking my time
When I wake up early in the morning
Lift my head, I'm still yawning
When I'm in the middle of a dream
Stay in bed, float upstream (float upstream)

Please don't wake me
No, don't shake me
Leave me where I am
I'm only sleeping

To put it in perspective, Lennon was probably correct in the secular, rich west.  Elsewhere in the world, the vocation of Jesus Christ to help and the poor and vulnerable is still very  important.

Christianity is just nonsense, just like every other religious faith.

Promising.  These guys might have something here.  Could go far.

I turned my mother on to this song in the course of trying to remind her that not getting up early on Saturday was a good thing.
I can identify with this, especially over winter when I go into semi-hibernation and struggle to get out of my cosy warm bed
New beautiful video for this song available
So beautiful.
from Rubber Soul onwards - all a solid 10
Straight 10.
This song hit me like a laser today. I am going to go home and spin this record today.
No duffers on this great album. I bought it on the day of release in a record shop on Kingsway, Valetta, Malta and it always revives happy memories of those times. Love it.

Exactly my experience about 15 minutes ago
Path-breaking.
As I recall, this song was not on the American album (vinyl), but does appear on the CD and was probably on the European album.  I love this song.

Okay, that explains it.  Thank you.

This has me puzzled, because the album I bought in 1970 (in Arlington, TX) had all three of those songs included, although the song order was different compared to the UK version.  And Your Bird Can Sing was the lead song, and I believe Dr Roberts was the second, followed by Taxman.  I still anticipate that order when I listen to my Revolver CD.

While I immensely enjoyed the superb cover The Vines did, and I admire them greatly for it, this truly is THE example of vocal harmony

Many incensed, conservative young 'uns who had been induced by their elders to suspend critical thinking burned and trashed Beatles records anyway. Perhaps some of them are now senior citizen Trump voters.

I wonder what a vintage, pristine pressing of Beatles '65 or Help! is worth these days?

To be fair, Jesus never really got a chance to release a pop album, what with all that healing of the lame and so on.

I am not a Beatles fan but I recognize their importance and brilliance. Compared to the average quality of for example Pearl Jam for, which I hear as often as Beatles I would say the current amount of Beatles is pretty balanced.

I love the nice woody sound of Paul's Hofner bass with flat wound strings, a set up that he continues to use to this day.

I don't care that it's the Beatles. John wrote many songs that were better than this. This one is overly simple, repetitive and is ultimately uninteresting. Heroics in the studio can't save it! I give it a 3.

Here's some context:  The Billboard Year-End Hot 100 for 1966.  The Beatles tracks on this list are, in ascending order, "Yellow Submarine" (96), "Nowhere Man" (90), "Paperback Writer" (28), and "We Can Work It Out" (16).  There's no question that "I'm Only Sleeping" stands out as different from these four tracks as well as pretty much everything else on that list.  The backmasking on this track (remember, decades before digital, and pretty innovative with audiotape) may not be a sound you like, but it makes it stand apart, even today.

Maybe so, but I love it anyway. You also have to wonder how many other good-to-great works this song inspired, even though it might not have aired without being played by the Beatles.

Good luck separating the phenomenon from the context...
Put it in it's context and it's got very high production values wrapped around a simple tune. Mind you, I did buy the original UK (extra tracks) LP in the day.
