Long ago when we were younger and we rocked the night away.
How could I see a future then, where you would not grow old?
Such fire in our belly, such a hunger in souls.
I guess I've grown to love you in those words so often tired
Seen that we were traveling under some old lucky sign
I know I didn't say it then and no one was to blame
But the road we shared together once will never be the same.
Hey all along the way
Won't be coming round again. Hey was a song I played. And on the wings of a song, I'll fly away.
I wondered in the wilderness for a while I was so lost.
To everything there is a season and every blessing has it's cost.
So I took what you left to me and put it to some use
When looking for an answer with those three chords and the truth.
I come down from the moutain I come walking in your shoes.
I was taken for a glambler when I had no more to loose
For he put me on that path and how could I refuse.
And I would spend my whole life out here working on the blues.
Hey... Ay Hey. Hey. Ay. Hey. Heeeeeeeeey.
So I carried on, you can't be haunted by the past.
People come people, go and nothing ever lasts.
But I still think about you wonder where you are.
Can you see me from some place up there among the stars?
But down here under heaven there never was a chart
To guide our way accross this crooked highway of the (part?)
And if it's only all about the journy in the end
On that road I'm glad I came to know my old friend.
Hey all along the way
Won't be coming round again. Hey was a song I played. And on the wings of a song, I'll fly away. I'll fly away.
Aside from the questionable or very arguable quality or validity of your opinion (it's not a fiction or an allegory as many songs are, but an autobiographical song about Emmy Lou's relationship with a great American songwriter), the word "moribund" is also suspect. I think you do not mean this, as the word fits oddly or not at all into the context of what you have stated.
1. At the point of death or dying; 2. Approaching extinction; coming to an end; a moribund enterprise. - Funk & Wagnalls
I think you may instead mean morbid. Even that does not seem right.
1. Taking or showing an excessive interest in matters of a gruesome or unwholesome nature; being in an abnormally impressionable state of mind.
You can use whatever language you want. But if it doesn't paint the point, why speak write at all?
In any vocabulary, however, Emmy Lou crafted a very lovely song. Sorry, but your comment is mordant.

Brutal. But he deserved it.
Wow.. must have struck a deep personal cord! You might try the Abe Lincoln thing of not sending out a letter until the next day. Many never got sent. I really enjoyed the song, personally. But I guess I was too busy at my desk to listen to the words. What are bollocks?
Yeah she sort of screwed up her personal life by hanging onto this guy for far too long. If he had lived till today, she probably would have discovered he wasn't "all that".
To the best of my knowledge, they were never in a personal relationship. Partners in music and friends-yes. He was her mentor and maybe she just wishes they had had more time together, given his influence. But yeah, if they had ever moved onto the next level, she might have decided he wasn't "all that."
I like this tune. First one of hers I've liked since Wrecking Ball and maybe something off Red Dirt Girl.
well i guess everybody knows that
Agreed, sadly. Sap-factor 12!

Here's to Miss Emmylou Harris for this most wonderful song!
He died on September 19, 1973.

How could this be possible, unless they have speakers in hell!
Bet you regret that comment now.

ELH—Our Musical Treasure.
Yep, that's why I have 3 of her CD's, Wrecking Ball being my favorite. Still, I prefer 'this' voice over the 'other'
Amazing how she fits in to so many artists music, too!
Dude....the woman is a LEGEND......

Emmylou is wonderful, but THUNK, too much THUNK, drums, THUNK, THUNK, THUNK.
Thirding, fourthing that... it's kinda jarring for a song of this type. Nice bridge though.
Exactly! Love the song, hate the "thunk" - noise heard too often, unfortunately.
The drum and the rhytmic guitar sounds very much like "crazy horse" (N Young's band) ...
One more great song from Emmylou—I love it.
Two powerful and beautiful songs about loss
THANKS to Bill & Co
Mortality isn't much of a mystery.
Rocks like buttah
"This performance gave me goosebumps, raised the hairs on the back of my neck and made my eyes misty...Thank you for posting." GRockBlues
"I think both John Denver and Neil young (both my faves) does justice and honour to their guitar."
"Incredible performance, Neil is the man that guitar is A piece of music history, Hank Williams and then Neil Young, damn. " TheAngelus1898
"One of the best performances of a song that there is. Very soon after this show, Neil was scheduled for brain surgery and he did not know what his singing, playing, composing skills would be afterward, if any at all nor whether he would survive the surgery. Many artists would have canceled this show, but not Mr. Young. He's one of the very best." indiana1fats
good to hear it on RP.
I'm just so happy it appears she has gotten her voice BACK. She seemed so weak for years....now sounds back to her wonderful self. Saw her on Letterman the other week....she was ROCKIN it!!!
From another angel, Emmylou.
Too true.
Truly a tradegy. The Presdint will now play the world's smallest violin jes fer you.
"Play it once, Emmylou, shame...shame on you. Play it twice...won't get fooled again!"
(Psst, Zim: hit the mute button or change the %$*& station next time. Works like a charm. Cheers.)
I'm liking it now. Maybe it's the good headphones or something.
And you'd recognize the symptoms of post-concussion syndrome HOW? QUICK, MiracleDrug - how many fingers am I holding up?? And, can you even SING, much less "umm yodel"? Ms. Harris has already transcended the likes of us idiots. I'm happy to bask in the glow of her voice.
I'm guessing one finger... the middle one.
Yep.

Ditto! Couldn't have said it better. :-)

What, exactly, is this "miracle drug" you consume? Yodeling generally sounds like that - ask Bono.
Hmm... :-( Hey MiracleDrug, guess how many I'm holding up... (It's between zero & two.)
