I'm gonna be released from behind these lines
And I don't care whether I live or die
And I'm losing blood, I'm gonna leave my bones
And I don't want your heart it leaves me cold

I don't want your future
I don't need your past
One grand moment
Is all I ask

I'm gonna leave my body
(moving up to higher ground)
I'm gonna lose my mind
(History keeps pulling me down)
Said I'm gonna leave my body
(moving up to higher ground)
I'm gonna lose my mind
(History keeps pulling me, pulling me down)

I don't need a husband, don't need no wife
And don't need the day, I don't need the night
And I don't need the birds let them fly away
And I don't want the clouds, they never seem to stay

I don't want no future
I don't need no past
One grand moment
Is all I ask

I don't want your future
I don't need your past
One grand moment
Is all I ask

I'm gonna leave my body
(moving up to higher ground)
I'm gonna lose my mind
(History keeps pulling me down)
Said I'm gonna leave my body
(moving up to higher ground)
I'm gonna lose my, lose my mind
(History keeps pulling me, pulling me down)

Pulling me down
Pulling me down
Pulling me down
Pulling me, pulling me down

I'm gonna leave my body
(moving up to higher ground)
I'm gonna lose my mind
(History keeps pulling me down)
Said I'm gonna leave my body
(moving up to higher ground)
I'm gonna lose my mind
(History keeps pulling me, pulling me down)

Yeah, said I'm gonna leave my body
(moving up to higher ground)
I'm gonna lose my mind
(History keeps pulling me down)

Well, you can't.
Sorry friends, I can't stand her singalongs.
Not entirely horrible - faint praise I know, but I can't quite get any more enthused than that.
I suppose if you have a big voice you should use it but she is getting a bit one-dimensional for my ears.

Man.  Given the blather in the comments below, I kept waiting for Florence to break into a screeching caterwaul.  Nope--just rich, powerful, surprisingly subtle vocals.  Kudos to Florence.  The rest of you can slink back into your tidepool of hyperbole.

It's more of a keening caterwaul.
Have no problems with her voice. The song I didn't care for too much.

Although the grumblers dominate the posts - the ratings tell a different story.

For me, gonna check out this album as well. Fantastic voice!!

Yeah.  It gets to be a little much.  I'll take London Grammar instead.
I really like her songs (like this one) where she reins it in a bit. The range, the power, the control, are all on fine display here. For me, it's like having a quality stereo or a fast motorcycle that has a ton of power - you know its there, you can feel it, and even at lower volumes/speeds it's better than many other, less powerful devices, and you don't have to crank it all the way up to prove it. I totally get how others can dig it when she does let loose her power, but she resonates more with me when she does songs like this one. Thanks for playing a variety of her catalog Bill!
What a voice and talent, of course there are those who like to complain and for them, some sage advice: EAT MORE FIBER. Once that shit moves out of your head, you'll breathe a sigh of relief.
I think every Flo & Mac song sounds the same, but I also enjoy them. A land of contrasts.
Intrusively loud!

Perfect proof of the online world today:
Lots of complaints in the comments... but a 7.2 rating.
Obviously people love much more to complain online than to praise ;)

Personally, Florence entertains me a lot most of the time!

Yes to Radiohead.

You are an optimist, lucky guy. Let's say this: if you like chilish singalongs, she's unbeatable.
All songs are the same, same pattern, same singalong, very boring.
Shouted programming. Simple as that.
PSD again.

Not a fan of F+TM but this one is a mellow rocker for sure, light seven to a decent 8

Ignore the haters ... she has serious pipes and I like 'em.  Easily a 7.

Funny!  In this case, the Machine probably does have an off switch....the next question is "where's Flo's off switch?"  - although I like this one enough to rate it a 7....Long Live RP!!

thx4that1Bill
Why can't she sing a bit louder? The voice is almost inaudible, bad mix I'd say.
Dengue Fever - No Sudden Moves followed by Florence - it's almost like Bill is trying to provoke a response from the haters.

I happen to enjoy both artists, although not the best work by either one.

There are at least another 20 songs by this band on the playlist.  Maybe it's just a timing thing.
Hear this way too much. Please stop!

I heard a F+M song on the radio yesterday that I actually liked.  I was very surprised, actually.  It was quite different in style to her strident and stultifying dirges we hear on RP.

I wouldn't necessarily go that far but I find it utterly "unlistentoable" (I think I coined that one). There has yet to be a selection from her/them that I can even tolerate but I suppose that is my issue. I put Dave Matthews in the same category. There is way too much superb music out there and especially on this gem of a station to be focused on the few I cannot tolerate.

Aye, right enough. She sings as she wants to sing, as a big passionate woman in whom emotions run as wild as a whirlwind. Her voice pulls me along in her slipstream - I couldn't resist even if I wanted to (which I certainly don't). I doubt that she gives a monkeys about criticisms. 9 from the emotionally bowled over Nottingham jury.

Tuned in just as this song was ending...yes!  Hooray for perfect timing!  {#Clap}
hmmmm, they call them Public Houses for some reason, love my sweet neighbors so much more after a bit of joy in the Pub, don't you? Anyway, love, what a concept… left the house , left the turmoil at home, solid communication with ol' Brady and those types, CHEERS!!!
Left my worries, my body, no, thats doin quite well thanks, but that open Church of Brother Laz was right there with the lights on and all, and yes they were in there sure enuff, those roiling mule skinning naked souls, naked like newborns, and bursting with passion…!!!
Thank you DJ, thanks to Lazarus for the lessons of Peace, and someday I dream of a thank you smooch for fabulous Flo (delicious)
Her music gets me pumped.  My favorite house cleaning and running music.
Old boring music for old boring people. The 80's are gone Florence !
Who these people that don't like Florence? They need a husband, they need a wife...

OK so most of her stuff sounds quite similar, tribal drums, Enya-esqe vocal layering. It's still mostly rather powerful. Plus, red hair, long legs. It's music, heh {#Shifty}

I am very eclectic with what I like, but find Florence one of the few artists I just do no care for at all.
Perhaps it is a particular type of diva that grates with me, Annie Lennox is another.
It really does have nothing to do with red hair either
all power to red headed women....{#Fire}.....( esp. who sing this well )
This song really, really, really sucks
Immy, Portishead, Flo. Brilliant stretch of music. nice one Bill

Well, our Flo can certainly belt out a number. I am loving her more and more for the sheer bombastic skill and effort as well as the whole quirkiness of her tunes. Go Flo!
Wow. Florence has an amazing voice. I'm not sure Id like this song if it was done by a less powerful voice (enya)... Annie Lennox is one of the few singers i can think of who might be able to cover a Florence song

Hm.

First time I don't agree.

Sorry, bombastic.  I'd take Tori Amos over Flo and I think that Tori is a crass imitation of Kate Bush.  Among contemporary artists, Bat For Lashes or Cat Power connect without base theatrics.
My partner dared me to spend a day without saying anything negative, so here goes: Florence has an amazing ability to irritate.

That's not necessarily a bad thing, to me.  This tune's quite likable; it's not as pugnacious as most of what I've heard from this band.

Stop the presses!  This can't be Florence - There's no use of harp for harp's sake.
Florence... Leave my ears!
Happy with the PSD button!
Until I heard Florence here on RP on a regular (ish) basis I had dismissed her as 'not my cup of tea'.

Now, she has ear-wormed into my head. . . she really is rather good.
Off again with anther daily dose of yelling and whining from Dear florence and her repetitive nasty machine😖😖😖😖😖😖😖😖😖😖😖😖😖😖😖😖😖😖😖
Everytime Florence and her bombastic machine appears on RP I'm happy with the PSD button.
Thanks for adding this on RP!

Yes, yes. Exactly. Maybe I'm a little out there on the autism spectrum, but somehow her singing sends me into high alert, and not in a good way. It's like listening to a baby crying full force. 100+ dB on the emotional scale that is painful to the brain. Adele is the same for me. I have to turn it off in self defense.
