I'm gonna marry a man like no other
Light the fuse, hallelujah, hallelujah

Love, love is the warmest colour
Petrol blues, hallelujah, hallelujah
Comes, saut dans le vide, my lover
In my youth the greatest tide washed up my prize

You.

Follow, let him go, let him lead me be
Love is a pharaoh, and in front of me
I thought let him be where he want to be
Love is a pharaoh and he's boning me

I've discovered a man like no other man
I've discovered a man like no other man
I've discovered a man like no other man
I've found a love to love like no other can

I've found a love to love like no other can

He's found me, my Aslan

Hallelujah, Bovay, Alabama
Marry a man like no other

Hallelujah, Bovay, Alabama
Love is the warmest colour

Hallelujah, Bovay, Alabama
Unpin your butterflies, Russia

Hallelujah, Bovay, Alabama
To be a deer in Nara

Hallelujah, Bovay, Alabama

Good Tune!
Never heard of these cats. Moist.
Amazing band
There are only maybe three artists on RP that send me for the PSD button, and alt-J is the top of the list.  Glad so many people like them, but Bill & Rebecca - I'll just register a 'no' vote on alt-J.  Love love love RP!  Thank you!

Brilliant band.

Me too!
One of the best bands to see live.    Not every song is a hit, but it all makes sense when played in concert.

I'll give you credit for this:  you called their output 'music' which is more than others are willing to give them credit for...so I say Long Live RP AND Alt-J!!  I'm at an 8 on this one and I really like the entire album....

Sorry, but this band/act/sound joins Radiohead, LaMontagne and a few others on my auto psd list. Alt J is effect-heavy, melody-light, a bit snoozy and affected, a surreal-space lounge lizard soundtrack for dreamy hipsters. Too little there there.
Kitten dead.

MrsTom wrote (In reference to Peter Gabriel - Rhythm of the Heat):  Pretentiousness of the highest level. Sounds a bit crap too

Michael_Dean wrote:  Oh glad, I found you, an Expert of Pretentiousness.

Would it not be handy to have a quick reference chart, seeing that we have so many citations of pretentiousness here in the comments section.  Please arrange the following in order of pretentiousness.  If you will do this work, I promise to post the chart every time I see an offense registered.  We can call it the MrsTom Pretentiousness Gradient, MTPG for short.  Not to be confused with Empty Peter Gabriel, of course, THAT'S a whole other chapter, let's just handle these one at a time and in order.  (Was that too Pretentious?).  ah... wait... we were talking about something...... THE LIST ! ! ! I  I'll have it made like a mountain range, with a snow-white pillow for my big fat head, And my heaven will be a big heaven, And I will walk through the front door.  Big time. (I love me!) (Now, I think that WAS pretentious).

Pretentiousness of the Highest Level
Indubitably Pretentious
Certainly Pretentiousness
Moderately Pretentiousness
Twinkie Defense Pretentiousness
Barely Pretentious
Criminally Pretentious
Chewbacca Defense Pretentious
Almost Pretentiousness
MTPG Pretentious

Oh glad, I found you, an Expert of a bit crap too.....

The MrsTom Pretentiousness Gradient - M.T.P.G. (Not to be confused with Empty Peter Gabriel, of course).

10.)  MTPG Pretentious - Pretentiousness that precedes all other Pretentiousness, the Pretentiousness from which all Pretentiousness is borne. Big Bang MTPG some have named it - BBMTPG.

09.)  Pretentiousness of the Highest Level - The inflationary epoch occurred at approximately  10−36 seconds after the Big Bang.  Following the inflationary period, The Pretentiousness continues to expand, but at a less rapid rate.  This is why some "Good" music actually can exist.

08.)  Criminally Pretentious - deliberate, willful, malicious, spiteful, wicked, cruel or violent Pretentiousness.

07.)  Certainly Pretentiousness - deliberate, but not violent Pretentiousness.

06.)  Indubitably Pretentious - Pretentiousness Beyond a Reasonable Doubt, you will do the Time for this one.

05.)  Twinkie Defense Pretentiousness - Pretentiousness attributed to insanity AND is defensible in a Court of Law.  These offenses are often "Settled Out of Court".

04.)  Moderately Pretentiousness - A level of Pretentiousness that is still defensible, but does not oblige insanity.

03.)  Barely Pretentious - This is Pretentiousness that just made it over the line.

02.)  Almost Pretentiousness - This is Pretentiousness so feeble that it doesn't really count.

01.)  Anomalous Pretentiousness  - Sometimes it's there, sometimes not.  Physicists are baffled, naming it  a non-zero vacuum energy Pretentiousness.  In the special case of vacuum energy, general relativity stipulates that the gravitational field is proportional to ρ+3p (where ρ is the mass-energy density, and p is the Pretentiousness).

00.)  Chewbacca Defense Pretentious - Red Herring Pretentiousness, not actually pretentiousness at all, 'tis a strategy, should not be listed here.

Hei aspicer,

Did you buy the album?  Thoughts?
 Hoosfoos wrote:

Poor Hoosfoos.

Even if/when they break up, the music they've already made would still be around and still be played.  I don't usually enjoy the misery of others, but I have to admit that the thought of you squalling every time Alt-J is played amuses me.
Love this {#Cheers}

I saw Alt-J at Red Rocks this summer. I was blown away at how good the show was. Yahoo streamed the show live. Easily my favorite for 2015. If you're thinking of seeing them live, here is the review from the next day, www.heyreverb.com/blog/2015/07/28/did-alt-j-just-play-the-best-red-rocks-show-of-the-year-photos-review/106434/

Don't you think categorizing musical artists is a bad idea?

If you're categorizing in order to try to describe music to someone else, then no.
If you're categorizing in order to condemn an entire genre of music ... then yes.

Post-prog?  If you had to shove this band's music into a 'category', how would you categorize or succinctly describe it?

Like it. Look forward seeing them in Oct at ACL.
So love this band. I'm really looking forward to their next offering.

Feel free to correct me if you like, you cheeky monkey.  I can't see any problem in it, but then again I probably don't have your command of my own language.
Great song!

Nice "flow" from "Cecil Taylor" to this track.
Its a song I find myself lost in on the highway.
The whole cd is a good one, so is the last one.
They did a nice live show at the echo stage, Washington DC, US.

Take yourself off to youtube.com and search for Alt-J, and you'll find that some kind soul has uploaded the full album so you can try before you buy.

Nope but so far everything sounds intriguing.
Nope.
Wonderful album !!!! a kind of strange but I like it very much. The former album "An Awsome Wave" is just a little bit better.
Might have to go see them when they're in town next Monday...
Have not heard the full album but thanks to Bill we are getting lots of good samples !
