Rake at the moon where the river flows
Cut from the cloth of the winter's cold
Bound by the voice that no one hears
I've been around in a way for years
Stray from the hear the more that you know
All gussied up with no place to go
Table side the one of your dreams
Get what you want not what you need

Parlor games and 6 o'clock news
Hands of a stranger touching you
Wide awake incased in a dream
Everything is not as it seems
All your time is heaven sent
Days and the nights all start to blend
It's not like this town to set you free
The more you look the less you see

The tables set the rose is out
You know what it is
Miles away from places you have been
The call was made to pull the shades
The start of something new
Still nothing makes me feel the way
You do, you do, you do, you do
You do, you do, you do, you do
You do, you do, you do, you do
You do, you do, you do, you do

The ones they say have come here before
All gather 'round in the corridor
Try as I might I can't place your name
I know the face that I can't explain
In my mind you're everything
Lips don't move but voices still ring
The light inside has lost its glow
The more you see the less you know

The tables set the rose is out
You know what it is
Miles away from places you have been
The call was made to pull the shades
The start of something new
Still nothing makes me feel the way
You do, you do, you do, you do
You do, you do, you do, you do
You do, you do, you do, you do
You do, you do, you do, you do

The seasons change
My mind erased
The stars all fade
But one remains the same

You do, you do, you do, you do
You do, you do, you do, you do

Must I your grace
Unveil the face
Only to say
Nothing takes the place

I like these guys the more I hear them.

Thanks for sharing.  The lyrics make a lot more sense to me now and they are powerful.  We lost my wife's Father to Alzheimer's and it is harrowing for everyone.
The song is good but RP's new philosophy of playing only one song from every band over and over again for weeks is hard to take.
Couldn't get on board with these guys for a while but this song has helped me bridge that gap. Thanks RP for bringing the goods once again.

An already hauntingly beautiful song now means even more to me. Thanks for sharing.
With all four of the original members having the same last name, it would've also made a good band name.   "Followill" ...it's good.

Perhaps, but why would someone “play with” such a tender, sad, soulful song? Well, each to his own.
Now listening to: “Every single one of us could use some mercy now.”

pretty sure it was a tongue in cheek reference to the lyrics "you do, you do, you do, you do." but, maybe you missed that.

Not a huge fan of them, but like this track in particular, maybe b/c it has an Elbow feel to it.

You mean the rest of us who also like Kings of Leon? Confused.
Some Arcade Fire, some Elbow.
There's something about the bridges that I like.

You mean you don't hear him sing "YouTube YouTube YouTube. " a zillion annoying times??......

I'd guess mocking the repetitive chorus. Chuckle here.,haha!
I kinda like the tune.
This song would have done well without all of the Doo Doo, Doo Doo...
Gotta say, Kings of Leon, they've been growing on me a little of late.  Not sure why it takes me so long to warm up to some bands.  This one caught my ear for sure.
In every 100,000 people, there are approximately 1,000 homo DJs.

I could listen to this album over and over and never get tired of it.
is someone else from the band singing this one? it sounds so different that most i know by KOL. doesn't sound like caleb singing...

Nice.  Instantly recognisable as KoL yet totally different from their usual.

My thought exactly.  Quite wistful, hopeful, thoughtful, sweet.
Some songs need more cowbell. This one needs more you do.

You're a wanker or do you not recognize a second language learner?
This guy keeps telling me "you do you".  I think he's being snarky.
Every time I hear this song, at first I think it's Devotchka. I'm not a huge Kings of Leon fan but I do like this one. A solid 7.
Very good intro and rhythm, insta-bookmarked. Love the mood.
decent, comfortably numb vibe for a beat or two

One of their better songs (imo)

Sexly.

This band is hit or miss for me. This song is a hit!

What up with that!
Not your typical Nashville band.
I would love to know how this song got generated. It's so woven and complex, and the "you do"s are part of the rhythm. I'm sure there's a really great story there.

Some serious questions asked, followed by minorities.

Yeah, some of the phrasing...thanks for ruining this one for me, ha!
I like the vibe on a dark monday morning in Berlin
That retro string sound is very jarring to my ears.
I like this sound from them much better than previous. It sounds/feels more, authentic? That, of course, is completely my opinion. Everyone that listens to music hears it from their own perspective.

I also like most of what I've heard, BUT that's one hell of a comment!
Not complaining,  as this KoL is more accessible than most to my innate sensibilities, but have to say that this ditty sounds like (in a good way) the love child of Spoon and Elbow on a moody day.
The more I hear this, the more I hear the talent and genius in this amazing band of brothers. I wondered if their name was inspired by the epic novel, El Cid, named for a legendary Spanish rebel leader who a thousand years or so ago schemed to (temporarily) re-conquer Valencia, then under Moorish control. But, no -- it's nothing to do with any or all of that! But it sure doesn't hurt to add intrigue wherever it may be inserted... They are all descendents of a legendary paternal grandfather named Leon, so... Anyway, brilliant song, group, history, choice on the Masterpiece Playlist that Bill and Rebecca plug in from their Place of Enlightenment; thanks, RP, as always!

Gesundheit!
First two albums, amazing. Then a bunch of bland, corporate pop-rock, completely unlistenable. So, anything that comes from them these days which isn't terrible, I'm pleasantly surprised.

meh
I'm always hot/cold on KOL. I've bought their albums but meh... this song, however, is very nice.
The background synths remind me of several tracks on Steven Wilson's last album, especially "Man Of The People". I expect they used the same device or software to get that sound, and like many tracks from the 80's, it will date this music to a specific period in time.

That said, I like this and SW.
 DaidyBoy wrote:

Yes. They've somehow changed up their style quite a bit between most albums while retaining an unmistakable KoL signature. It's one of the reasons they're one of my favorite bands, despite I find a few albums not to my liking at all.
Not bad, but I wouldn't want this in heavy rotation.
yeah, this song is annoying.

I like this. A lot more mellow than usual for KoL but very nice.
I love their last album; I'm excited for this one to be released next week.

Good tune.  Nice segue from Impossible Germany.
