EXCELLENT!! I would love hear her do "Can't You Hear Me Knocking" (Rolling Stones). She could OWN that tune!
closest I could find https://www.youtube.com/watch?...

First time I've heard this all the way.
Smokin' hot guitar and voice. That's the way to reinterpret an iconic track.
And a smokin' hot chick I suppose ;-)

Very well stated. This version is a GREAT HOMAGE!
...Screamin' Jay Hawkins (original composer 1956), Nina Simone, CCR, Annie Lennox, Jessie Cook, Brian Ferry, The Crazy World of Arthur Brown, Manfred Mann, Joe Cocker, ...and the list goes on!!!
Add the duet of Carlos Santana and Buddy Guy to the list

This is the first time I've heard of Samantha Fish, but I like this song! Best female blues guitarist/singer since Susan Tedeschi?
Sad there are so many covers. Nothing is original anymore it seems
This is the second time you've posted in this thread saying the same thing... we read you the first time... unfortunately.
I guess you don't realize how many songs that you probably like, weren't written by the musician performing it. It's only called a cover when someone else performed it first, and performing it first doesn't necessarily mean it's the best version of the song, it's just the one you're used to.

And covers are wrong because ______. Go ahead. Fill in that blank.
Personally I'd much rather hear a player with her talent take on a familiar composition like this than to offer up a second-rate original. I can think of several really great players who waste their talent on their original songs when they could be elevating someone else's good song to new heights or offering a fresh take on it.

I had previously rated this a 9/10. Hearing it again, 10/10.
What you said! This is a surpassingly excellent rendition and I for one am glad it is getting airplay here.

If you have a chance to see her live, go and enjoy!
Nice guitar playing and that's about it.
Get a clue. Her vocal chops and stage presence are as good as her guitar. Just watched her open for and play with Buddy Guy on his damn right farewell tour. She brought down the house at Wolf Trap in VA.
[edit] It was helpful to check out some versions on YouTube.
She's pretty awesome... I think she owns this song now!

Nice guitar playing and that's about it.
look up stuff she did with Steve Miller when she opened for him recently. Very cool
If I had know she was going to be in the area, I would have gladly bought a ticket.
Nominated for a '24 Grammy, would be nice to see her break through the muck.
That Fish will need some water before she burns up too.
No comments?! Weird. Hot chick ripping guitar, soulful singing ... gotta be worth at least a 7, no?
10 all the way
Love it!!!!
My Avast antivirus just blocked her website with an URL:Scam message. Looks like she really did try to put a spell on me...
No spells, just delete Avast Antivirus for the bloatware that it is!

Will be purchasing a lot of her music in the future

Warnings like that are almost always false positives. There's nothing wrong with her site.
Samantha and Beth Hart would be a killer duo.
Audience did a great version of this waaaaay back
The House on the Hill is a fantastic album.
Nothing novel here to me. I look for the ‘novel’ in a cover of a classic.
She certainly can sing and play that axe. So, yes, an accomplished musician — like so very many others. I suppose I need to hear more of her own stuff before — or if — I rave about her.
This one gets a 5+. Or maybe I’m just in one-a my ‘Non-Bluesy’ moods. ;-}
First time I've heard her on RP; usually only get that with my semi-regular blues fix on Nuthin But the Blues on KJZZ (weekends, when there's no football for me to watch...) or Ann the Raven's blues, Sunday nights on KCSN.

Just upted this to a 7.8, which got rounded to a 8.0

Not interested in the "hot chick" bit; the song, playing and singing get a 7 from me.

Totally disagree! .Sure, there are a few I enjoy—but overall, I just don’t see much value in them.
In almost every other art form, we don’t treat copies the same way we treat originals. Imagine someone painting a “better” version of the Mona Lisa. Would it be impressive? Maybe. Would it be valuable? Not really. The original is worth $860 million. A copy? Maybe $8,600—if you’re lucky. Yet in music—especially here on Radio Paradise—some folks act like a cover can carry equal, or even greater, weight than the original. That just doesn’t make sense to me.
Think about it: in visual art, copies are usually labeled as forgeries. In literature, copying someone’s novel or text is called plagiarism. But in music? Covers get praised, played, and sometimes even ranked above the originals. Wtf? Why is the standard different? Just because you can sing a song with a better voice or a different tempo doesn’t mean you’ve created something new. You’ve just reworked someone else’s art. Let’s call it what it is.
Whether an artist writes and performs a song themselves, or collaborates with a songwriter to make it truly their own, the first version is what matters most to me. That’s the origin. That’s where the value lies. That’s where the hard work went in. A cover—no matter how technically “better” it might sound—is still just a copy. Derivative. Lacking in originality.
We don’t display copied sculptures in museums. We don’t give literary awards to someone rewriting another author’s book. And while reinterpretation can be creative, let’s not pretend it carries the same weight as true originality.
Anyone can analyze a song and say, “I can make it more upbeat,” or “I’ll slow it down and make it sexy,” or “I’ve got a better voice,” or “I can turn this into a more marketable version.” That doesn’t make it better. And it certainly doesn’t make it more valuable. It’s frustrating that this industry—and a lot of people here—seem to celebrate covers so easily.
Look, cover bands have their place. They play college gigs, local bars, weddings. That’s fine. But let’s stop pretending those versions belong in the same conversation as the originals. I’m honestly fed up with the flood of covers here on RP.
So yeah—whether people like it or not (and honestly, I couldn’t care less if you do)—I rate most covers here a 1 out of 10. Not because they’re terrible. But because they’re not original. And for me, that’s what matters most.
What do you all think? Are there any covers you truly value more than the original—and why? Or do you agree that originality should always come first?
