Two dozen other dirty lovers
Oh, must be a sucker for it
Cry but I don't need my mother
Just hold my hand while I come to a decision on it
Sooner or later, your legs give way, you hit the ground
Save it for later, don't run away, don't let me down
Sooner or later, you'll hit the deck, you'll get found out
Save it for later, don't run away and let me down, you let me down
Run away, run away, let me down
Black air and seven seas, all rotten through
But what can you do?
I don't know how I'm meant to act with all of you lot
Sometimes, I don't try
I just, "Na-na-na-na, na-na-na-na, na-na-na-na
Na-na-na-na, na-na-na-na, na-na-na-na
Na-na-na-na, na-na-na-na, na-na-na-na"
Sooner or later, your legs give way, you hit the ground
Save it for later, don't run away and let me down
Sooner or later, you'll hit the deck, you'll get found out
Save it for later, don't run away, don't run away and let me down
Run away, run away and let me down
Run away, run away, let me down
Run away, run away
Two dozen other stupid reasons
Why we should suffer for this?
Don't bother trying to explain them
Just hold my hand while I come to a decision on it
Sooner or later, your legs give way, you hit the ground
Save it for later, don't run away and let me down
Sooner or later, you'll hit the deck, you'll get found out
Save it for later, don't run away, don't run away and let me down
Run away, run away and let me down
Run away, run away, let me down
Run away, run away, let me down
Run away, don't run away, don't run away
Don't run away, don't run away, don't run away
Don't run away, don't run away, don't run away
And run away and run away and run away and run away
Why don't you hold me?
Why don't you hold me and kiss me now?
Why don't you just hold me?
Hold me and kiss me now
Run away, run away and let me down
Run away, run away and let me down

Excellent cover!

You've made it clear, over and OVER, that you don't like covers. Fine. Whatever.
But saying it over and over isn't going to make me less inclined to play covers. To me, that would be a bizarrely rigid rule & not one I'll ever consider adopting.
TD/DR: Cut it out.
Go William!!! literally laughed out on reading your reply.
My wife and I, both of us basically the same age as Mr Vedder, are huge Beat fans and were very moved by this cover that was obviously inspired by a love of their music.

My wife and I just saw the English Beat last weekend, and even as much as I like EV, this cover falls flat for me. The Beat’s infectious energy is hard to separate out from their tunes.
great song - nice to hear a different take although for me the original is hard to better.
One of the many things I love about RP is the great offbeat covers that get played.
Also thinking it's the mark of a good song if it can sound great in two very different versions, like this one. Kudos to all, back to tapping my toes now.

I was never a huge Pearl Jam fan, but I've taken a real liking to Eddie Vedder's solo stuff.
Love it! Eddie sang the soundtrack of my youth, and he keeps making moving music! I can’t hear enough, keep it coming.
Sorry, you let me down.
This song worked perfectly in 'The Bear'. Great cover!
i would listen to Eddie doing Kars for Kids jingle. I ♥️ this cover.

Disagree that it is superior -- it's different. The English Beat recorded for a few years when ska was at its peak and their work now stands alone.
Vedder, however, is quite good, both in his musicianship and interpretation. It demonstrates the strength of the compositions by the Beat.
This is so superior to the original song, and the sax solo is just how much d have played it. Absolutely love this version, even though I’ve played the OG version for decades.

Ska + Grunge = Skrunge.
Still, not a bad cover. Eddie is showing his musical chops here and on some other cuts.

ughh. Yet another cover on the cover station RP! No one believes in singing their own songs anymore??!!

I wonder if Dave Wakeling has heard this and what he thinks about it. It is an unexpected cover from Eddie. They do say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery and this is a pretty good cover.

Kind of weird, ain't it?
Holy Fucking Shit... knew it was Vedder right away after the first two words. He has aged like fine wine and grown in some of the most beautiful ways imaginable. In 1993, would have never saw this coming. What a emotional interpretation. Simply glorious! Love his work.
An audacious cover, but I think it's really worked.
I wonder if he got the tuning right. There's a great story about Pete Townshend and David Gilmour calling Dave Wakeling to ask him what the tuning is on this song.

Nope.

Maybe nobody told him about the "save it fellator" version?
He totally missed the emphasis on Come in the line
"Just hold my hand while I come to a decision on it"
Even muffled the word which takes all the fun out of it.

Great cover, I thought it was Peter Gabriel at first
I believe Eddie is a fan of Pete Townshend, who did a similar rendition on his "Deep End Live" LP. Homage. I'm not an EV fan, as a general rule, but this is a decent version.
Yes, very cool cover.
Brilliant used in season 3 of The Bear!
Very nice cover.
