God, I feel like hell tonight
Tears of rage I cannot fight
I'd be the last to help you understand
Are you strong enough to be my man?

Nothing's true and nothing's right
So let me be alone tonight
Cause you can't change the way I am
Are you strong enough to be my man?

Lie to me
I promise I'll believe
Lie to me
But please don't leave

I have a face I cannot show
I make the rules up as I go
Just try and love me if you can
Are you strong enough to be my man?

When I've shown you that I just don't care
When I'm throwing punches in the air
When I'm broken down and I can't stand
Will you be man enough to be my man?

Lie to me
I promise I'll believe
Lie to me
But please don't leave

Wow great song by miss crow
Just realised this album's almost 30 years old.......SMH!!
(Where does the time go?)

"The Stable Song" by Gregory Alan Isakov followed by "Strong Enough" by Sheryl Crow...coincidence or similarities....

In the mid to late-90s when I was 16-22 years old, both this album and Jewel's "Pieces of You" were my "don't let the guys see I have these CDs lest they think I'm weak" - well now that I'm 45 I can say "I'm STRONG ENOUGH" to admit owning them.

What a moron I was back then!  I'm calling this an 8 and would rate "All I Wanna Do" a 9.   Jewell's "Who Will Save Your Soul" gets a 10.  And I don't feel the need to hide my musical likes anymore.

Long Live RP!!
Good Tune!
A hear felt ditty that touches the nerve. Really blokes! Do be kind.
  Lie to me
  I promise I'll believe
  Lie to me

Most of this song is like a Lance foreshadowing.

I figure that everybody's got one good song in them, as evidenced by Whitesnake's "Still of the Night".
I recall now how deeply the world embraced this stunning debut record of hers... I was in Noto, Ishikawa, with the ex-, starting and building a chain of English schools, and for awhile, it seemed we could hear it everywhere, even playing over the sound system in a local gym while we worked out. A few years later, when she had Neil Finn play and sing with her on "Every Day Is a Winding Road" -- after she'd been opening for CH on tour -- I felt so happy for her!
 in response to:
"Lie to me. I promise, I'll believe. But please don't leave me."

Those lyrics always punch me in the gut with their simple brutal honesty. Well done. Heartbreaking, but well done.

You are both correct.  Yankee, have you never lost at love?  Do you give lessons?

If you think Sheryl Crow is OK, you need to know about the truth about the Tuesday Music Club - which she joined late.

And you especially need to know about the great Kevin Gilbert, who was her boyfriend until she rode his coattails to stardom.

Clearly, don't know all the "in's & outs's of stardom but, I would think it safe to say, all of them ride SOMEBODY'S coattails, until said star reaches goal. Sometimes, "I get high with a little help from my friends"!! Almost could be common mantra for up & comers.

So evocative of a terrible time in my life. Takes me back every time. To quote the Pythons “I got betta ‘!”

Well that's a take I hadn't heard before, guess it shows there are two sides to every story, thanks for sharing.

I just found out that this is one of my sweetie's favorite songs.

And the answer was "yes."

Whew.
And bang. Here is the perfect follow up to Gregory Isakov's Stable Song. Perfection.
Bill, you're a genius.

See, this is when country music excels and breaks through musical barriers. My kinda country music.
Wow Bill she's great what a song i never heard on RP, thank you for keeping it more than interesting.

Right o. Somehow makes this song a bit better while diminishing "The Stable Song" IMO.

I frequently ask this of myself regarding my wife. Still not sure...{#Ask}

It's a very pretty song but... "When I'm throwing punches in the air; when I'm showing that I just don't care..."
You're really good-lookin' n'all, Cheryl, but if you don't care, why should I?
Guess I'm not strong enough?
I like the song well enough, but I think many, many other singers could do it infinitely less whiny.

All my womens in my church be glad that I be strong enough to be their man...

Best S. Crow song in my limited but humble opinion.

Strong Men are needed for Strong Women. Not too many are.
The Live on Letterman version is better.
I've always liked this and never knew it was Sheryl Crow.
I like Cheryl......this tune is like her anthem, or someones......On a side note....I can't seem to find a buyer for any of her cds......oh well....
IMHO, Sheryl´s finest moment: simple and honest.

Do you want more?
Better try science and/or phylosophy.
It´s just art.

The trick with great songwriting is to keep it simple but tell the truth in a beautiful way. This song succeeds. 8.

Love definition 2 of demagogue "A leader or orator who espoused the cause of the common people."  IMHO anyone in this country is entitled because of the first amendment to speak freely about any cause they want to.  And artists and entertainers - whether you like them or not - are both citizen's entitled to speak and in many cases "leaders and orators" who are perfectly entitled to use their "bully pulpits" - their stage presence and their access to the public, to speak out - and sing out - about issues they feel strongly about.

Whether it's Lee Greenwood or Sheryl Crow.

If you don't want to hear it - don't go to their show or turn off your radio.

Never liked her.
Hmmm.  I always thought this was Cyndi Lauper.  Did CL cover it?

This is pretty good, Sheryl is alright. Hey she has to pay the bills too, so she sold a lot of records, it's not the end of the world.
Great album.
Not a big fan of Sheryl but did see her play this live and it was extremely moving - hit a chord.

At same concert see came on stage while Lenny Kravitz was playing American Woman and she was hot, VERY HOT!

this song is brilliant in its brutal honesty. She may be a pop singer, but this has depth.
What's that, Sheryl?  Oh, I'm sorry, I'm unable to hear you as a result of the mute button.  Please, continue whining away.

Really like Sheryl. Especially this work.

I love this song but especially like the Sheryl Crow / Stevie Nicks version.
anybody remember this from Kalifornia?

Was just thinking the same thing ... hearing this on great speakers for the first time. Good speakers don't, for me, improve her voice though. I still find her marginal.

Respectfully disagree (7 years later, LOL). Sheryl Crow and The Globe Sessions, which followed, are both awesome albums. Not that I don't love this song. :)

Love the bassline in this one.

I haven't heard this in a long enough time that I like it again {#Music}
Bill,

Please stop overplaying this song.

The last play was 2002.  Next, somebody will say this is overplayed.
