I say my hell is the closet
I'm stuck inside
Can't see the light
And my heaven is a nice house
In the sky
Got central heating
And I'm alright
Yeah, yeah, yeah
Can't see the light
Keep it locked up inside
Don't talk about it
T-t-talk about the weather
Yeah, yeah, yeah
Can't see the light
Open up my head and let me out little baby
'Cos here we have been standing for a long, long time
Treading trodden trails for a long, long time
I say my hell is the closet
I'm stuck inside
Can't see the light
And my heaven is a nice house in the sky
Got central heating and i'm alright
'Cause here we have been standing for a
Long, long time
Treading trodden trails for a long
Long time time time time time time
I find sometimes it's easy
To be myself
Sometimes i find it's better to be
Somebody else
I see you, young and soft
Oh, little baby
Little feet, little hands, little feet, little feet, little baby
One year of crying and the words creep up inside
Deep into your mind yeah
So much to say, so much to say, so much to say, so much to say
So much to say, so much to say, so much to say, so much to say
'Cause here we have been standing for a long, long time
Treading trodden trails for a long, long time
I find sometimes it's easy to be myself
Sometimes I find it's better to be somebody else
So much to say, so much to say, so much to say, so much to say
So much to say, so much to say, so much to say, so much to say
So much to say, so much to say, so much to say, so much to say
So much to say, so much to say, so much to say, so much to say

Better than the omnipresent Tripping Billies! Goes some way to convincing me that he can be listened to...

I like Crash and this song from that album is an 8
I like this man.. And the group too. Brilliant voice and music.. 10/10
Why so many Dave Matthews haters on RP? Although I thought
he was over rated during the 90s, Matthews did put out some good
stuff too...

Why is Dave Matthews so popular in the US? In Australia, I haven't heard him played once. I can't work out why anyone cares what he has to say. No matter how much of it there is.

How about John Butler Trio? The Audreys? Both great bands just like DMB.

For a minute there, I thought they were going to morph into Gabriel's "Big Time," which woulda been cool.

DMB is best enjoyed from a live recording. I find their studio stuff a little dry.
It's like everything I despise about DMB, all rolled up in one horrid, piece of crap "song". Just awful.
The best live band ever! Especially when Tim is present.
there are NO peers for DMB... they OWN this niche...
Has a great groove, and I've always liked Carter's drum work here.
LOVE THIS....Sorry DMB Haters.
That's what makes RP great. Variety. Love it! Play more Madrugada though. Best regards from Norway.

lot of DMB haters, I don't get it? this one is a strong 7.
The first 2 albums were actually quite good. Saw him in concert in 1996 and he was very good performer.
But since that time onward he has genuinely underperformed. Or maybe he jusk sucks.

Somehow the melody always kinda suck in a DMB song
Nice to hear a little DMB on RP. Guess they are the cool band to hate....
What ever. I give em they have an ability to play together. But that dude has got to get the marbles outa his mouth.
DMB bores me to tears, but I have always loved this song!
Ugh. Hearing Dave Matthews was NOT the way I wanted to start my RP day. Back in a bit.

Well put. I believe this song has something to do with babies growing up and learning how to talk; and once they do learn, they suddenly have "so much to say" and talking is all they do. I believe the line from the song is "One year of crying then the words creep up inside, up into your mind..." Maybe I should have looked this stuff up before I posted...I just wanted to throw it out there in case anyone was curious — the song definitely makes more sense with that in mind.
I was definitely surprised by the low rating, since this is certainly my favorite DMB song and the only one I can think of at the moment that I'd rate higher than 6 or so. I guess I was expecting other people to feel the same way. Since the first time I heard this I've loved the awesome guitar part, as well as the horns and fun, syncopated melody.
I definitely understand why people don't like DMB, but I think this is one of the least "Dave-y" of their songs. Not sure precisely what that means, but it seems to not have as much of the "Daviness" that turns people off from this band. Personally I think the song's positive qualities far outweigh the Daviness, and though I probably wouldn't rate it higher than 7 or 8, I was surprised to see it rated lower than 6.
OK, so maybe it turns out Dave doesn't have so much to say. Or, he has a lot to say, but keeps saying it the same way. That doesn't detract from the fact that this was shockingly unique when it was new, and the brilliance of it isn't really diminished by the self immitation that's followed. And followed. And followed...

DMB is very popular in this country. The people who listen to RP who do not like the band are very vocal about their dislike for them. That leads to the perception that they aren't very popular, which isn't true.

THIS.
It's the same thinking behind the idea that the tea party is a major force. No. They're just VERY vocal. They have a bigger bark than the size of their dog. So it is with DMB haters on RP. They're very vocal about their dislike (which they're certainly entitled to), but for every 1 level-headed DMB supporter, there's like 5 over-the-top haters. The reality is, DMB is hugely popular in the states. They sell a lot of CDs, get nominated for many awards and are very impressive concert draws - all of which adds up to them regularly placing near the top of the top-grossing artists each year.

Hmmm, I'm not sure that the RP complainers are the most independent sample to use. I for one like DMB, though I live in Boston, which is perhaps the most European city in the US. However, I started to dig on them when I was still living in Southern California, but maybe that's like southern Europe.
Well, regardless, there must be enough people that like DMB to sustain all their concerts here in the states, unless they all show up just to complain.
I'm very surprised that you all, in America, do not like DMB very much (i've read some other comments, very similar, on some other songs played by DMB)... I really thought this band was a lot more popular in your country.
I discovered DMB in 1994, when I was living in Arizona, and only got the chance to see them in concert in Brussels, Belgium, last year. That was really a great performance.
DMB, unfortunately, almost never crosses the Atlantic... and when they do, they give only half a dozen concerts...
Anyway, I'm still a big fan, well, from Europe, I must admit...

I have said this to many, many people: In order to truly appreciate DMB, you have to see them perform live! They are great recording artists, but even greater live performers.

You know, the more I hear from these people, the less I like them - sort of the Fabulous Thunderbirds for a new millennium.
I guess that's the other side of the "RP gave me a new band to look for" coin.
