Way down yonder on the bayou
There lives a little girl-o
Skin so pale
Six feet high
Skinny as a rail
Just one eye
She's the one-eyed Fiona
She's the one-eyed Fiona
She's the one-eyed Fiona
She's the one-eyed Fiona
Her daddy gone to heaven
Her mama won't like you
Her brother he's crazy
He just might bite you
Her sister she's pretty
But she just won't do
She's the one-eyed Fiona
She's the one-eyed Fiona
She's the one-eyed Fiona
She's the one-eyed Fiona
Oh you can say she gonna love you
Because you made a little voodoo
Oh but what they didn't tell you
Is it ain't up to you dude
You better not cross her
You try to boss her
Then you better duck Mister
Here come a cup and saucer
She's the one-eyed Fiona
She's the one-eyed Fiona
She's the one-eyed Fiona
She's the one-eyed Fiona
So if you're going to the bayou
Man I'll tell you all I know
She's got skin so pale
She's six feet high
And she'll look right through you
With just one eye
She's the one-eyed Fiona
She's the one-eyed Fiona
She's the one-eyed Fiona

Classic Lyle!
hmmm, not sure about the lyrics - but what an amazing voice.
Oh my god. Really?
Okay, I give....just what is a one-eyed Fiona?? Oh wait, wait..... is that like a henway or something? Pretty lame song, by the way.
I was able to see Lyle and his large band in Santa Fe at Paolo Solari about three weeks ago. It was the last show at the the paolo they are closing it. What a way to go out. Lyle was the preformer that had played there more than any other act over the 30 something years that the stage was open. Lyle and the band were awesome....

I've always thought that this guy was a poser. Ya, know? Like that country-fried voice is a little forced. I offer as a contrast, Tom Waits, who I listen to and think "this guy is for real!" When I listen to Lyle, I think, "This guy is selling me something..."

He makes venue's what they are...for instance Red Rocks is just an amazing place on it's own but he brings energy that even that place can't conjure up without him.mostly unappealing tonal effect
Another addition to the Amazon wish list

Always loved this cover design. Would love to have heard the pitch: "Yes, Mr. Lovett - can I call you Lyle? No? Ok - we want to trim the photo right above the pupil. No, not above the eyes, right on top of the pupil. It'll emphasize your mouth."

Love love love to see him live!

this is good.... may not be his best but certainly worth a listen on occassion
I also wholeheartedly give this song a resounding
Powerful voice, but this song is just . Please cater to my specific tastes and don't play this song again!
Out of all the wonderful songs in Lyle's catalog, this is the one you choose to play. Why on earth?
me too...
I like him better than Julia.

Well, Fiona is Julia Roberts's middle name. The song is from 1996, and they were divorced in 1995. The bitter lyrics are pretty specific, referring to a crazy brother (Eric?), a dead father, cold mother, and pretty sister. So all the People magazine elements add up, LOL.
As for the one-eyed bit, maybe it means she doesn't have depth of vision? Like, she's shallow or something? I agree, whatever the heck it's a metaphor for, it's obscure.
I've heard tell that the 'One-Eye' ref is because Julia wore a lot of wide brim hats and would have them dipped down to obscure her face from picture takers, etc. My 2 c.
I think she appears that way in OCEAN's 13, where she portrays someone named Julia...

Which was her good eye?

Could someone explain this song? At first I thought I was mis-hearing the lyrics, and that he couldn't possibly be singing "one-eyed Fiona." But then I read the lyrics and sure enought that is what he's singing. And then other RP listeners have said he wrote this song for Julia Roberts. Huh? I don't get it. Can somone shed some light on the song for me?

Naw, I disagree. Pontiac was the best album. But Step Inside This House was the best show.
Allison Krauss singing backup for Lyle and them at Houston, when he sang the entire thing, cover to cover. I'll never forget it.

This gets low marks from me because he repeats the same line over and over and over and over....well, you get the point. I am not a fan of any song that is repetitive like this. The music itself was kind of catchy, but the over-use of the same line just ruined it for me.
Huh, why such a low rating for this one?

Is "One Eyed Fiona" slang for something else?

I always liked Julia Roberts..what a fitting tribute

I must be a sociopath or something- I don't get his appeal.
Dearly love Lyle, and have bought all of his cd's at full retail. This, however, is a song I normally skip.
skipping it again

He's already a legend. A real musical artist who writes some of the meanest lyrics around.

Except that I so do! Julia was a fool...
Thought this guy was a flaky movie star whose only claim to fame was marrying Julia Roberts. Then I moved to Texas and discovered his music. One of my favorites.
love it.
YES! :D
I was there too! It was an amazing show. Went in only knowing a few songs, left a fan.
