After dreams of distant signs
You pour yourself over me
Like the sun through the blinds
You lift me up
And get me out
Keep me walking
But never shout
Hold the secret close
I hear you say
You know the way
It throws about
It takes you in
And spits you out
It spits you out
When you desire
To conquer it
To feel you're higher
To follow it
You must be clean
With mistakes
That you do mean
Move the heart
Switch the pace
Look for what seems out of place
On and on it goes
Calling like a distant wind
Through the zero hour we'll walk
Cut the thick and break the thin
No sound to break no moment clear
When all the doubts are crystal clear
Crashing hard into the secret wind
You know the way
It twists and turns
Changing colour
Spinning yarns
You know the way
It leaves you dry
It cuts you up
And takes you high
You know the way
It's painted gold
Is it honey
Is it cold
You know the way
It throws about
It takes you in
And spits you out
You know the way
It throws about
It takes you in
And spits you out
It spits you out
When you desire
To conquer it
To feel you're higher
To follow it
You must be clean
With mistakes
That you do mean
Move the heart
Switch the pace
Look for what
Seems out of place
It's o.k.
It goes this way
The line it twists
It twists away
Cuts you up
and spits you out
Keeps you walking
But never shout.
10 ... all the way....
Sounds like a David hasslehoff song
Jees! How long did it take to dream that up?
Hi all. A little memory of no importance that I would like to share: 40 years ago (more or less) at a Bauhaus gig I was knocked to the ground by Murphy´s flying/spinning microphone. I came round in the arms off a little punkette who brought me back with sips from her warm hip flask "hidden" in her fishnet stockings. She prontly disapeared... I wonder If shes listening to RP thinking about that skinny idiot sitting in all that spit!
What a great story!
the great peter murphy!
this really brings back the late 80s for me. and while i write this, "crosses" by josé gonzález starts playing. hail to you, oh bill, the grandmaster of the perfect segue . now i'll probably grin and weep for a few minutes simultaneously - well, that will go along very well with my 1980s feeling...

no happy end? What a pity...
hang on...! is this the "MAXELL, BREAK THE SOUND BARRIER!" guy? y'know, she's in parties, in the flat field, Bela Lugosi etc?
wow! i had no idea!
adore the lyrics.
This and Marlene Dietrich's favorite poem are my favs from Peter. Solid album, a worthy effort after Bauhaus.
"Strange kind of love", I would add.
This song is simply flying !
And the album too!
Found this poster I had forgotten was still in collection from back in the 80's.
Now it hangs in my garage (out door man cave) where I see it everyday driving in and out.
I love this story! Thank you for sharing it. Sorry that Peter Murphy tried to kill you.
"To die, to be really dead, that must be glorious! There are far worse things awaiting man than death."
Sentences, doesn't he?

No PSD used either.
Looks quite fit and trim actually, and there's nothing unusual in doing a little stretching.
In the LAPD precint the officer wanted Peter to prove that he had no more methamphetamine concealed where the sun don't shine.

New wave was a wonderful musical period. Shame Grunge pulverized it.
I remember Donna Donna on LIR. She was great - fun days.
WLIR!!! The greatest radio station on the planet. Turned me on to the "alternative sound", including this album. So many good memories. Thanks for the shout out. Takes me back.... This is why I love Radio Paradise.
Miss that station. Every time a halfway decent alt station shows up (not counting college stations) in the NY-NJ tri-state area, it never lasts for long. thank god for RP.
it was WLIR where I first heard this tune.
do you vant to pet my monkey?
...you mean minky.

Oh yes. I remember. Even voted sometimes. It was all so important. It was a wonderful music period to me.
I always dug the dark sound of this one.

Was a feature spin on WLIR radio out of Long Island. Really kicks that drum kit!
Too bad I didn't connect much with his other tuneage.

Just before the photographer snapped the photo, he told Murphy that his shoe was untied.

What always struck me about this song is that the musicality of it (compared to the tracks you mention) doesn't make it less Peter Murphy. Also, this track holds up for me after 25 years or so.
I'd love to hear Bauhaus stuff, but it doesn't fit with RP.
Just about anything fits with RP. "Bela Lugosi..." is on the playlist but it hasn't been played in two years. Anyhow, I agree that this isn't any less Peter Murphy.
For me it is one of those songs that I dont know what it means but those lyrics really resonate for me. it does not matter to me what he is saying. it works. i dont over think it.

I have no idea what his music sounded like; I guess I'll have to take your word for it on that assertion.

Teeny tiny 'b' roads + teeny tiny roller skate you sit in + summer = F U N.
I still love the teeny tiny revvy basteard fiats, I wish I had a 500 Abarth, they are absurdly expensive in NZ.
Like most Italian machinery love affairs it defies logic, you either hate it or you love it. My first bike was a Ducati and I absolutely hated that.

Were there any non-crappy Fiat's? Granted, in the US the only experience we have had with them is a disastrous exit from the US auto market in 1984. Nearly 20 years later, most non-car people here have forgotten that Fiat even exists. At least until the thing with Chrysler and their not-so-attractive 500's return to the US.
My current love is a 2011 Subaru WRX, Red and Black like this bad boy. Back roads watch out! Big powerband from a turbo that doesn't know it's only a 2.5 liter engine.
How so? A quick Google did not reveal any accidents, etc
I assume this may be the source of his bad luck week:

Discovered this tune when I was "coming into my own" in Boston. This straight guy discovered Manray night club in Cambridge. Once I got past the discomfort pf being in a gay club, I realized, "these people" know damn good music. Pretty sure I discovered the music of Peter Murphy in that club. Then when I started traveling for work, I would seek out all the gay haunts in every town because I knew it would be interesting and fun and I actually made friends so now "some of my best friends are gay". Oh that sounds terrible. But anyway, Manray, Peter Murphy ... great memories.
I was about to post just the ssame! Great what music can do...
haha, yep!

Full marks.
