I'm not a huge U2 fan but regardless of what all you stupid fucking haters say this is a GREAT song!

Many years ago, when I had my father visit as his 65th birthday present from me, I took him to see U2. I told him the day he arrived that we were going to the concert. The rest of the conversation went like this:
My dad (quite pleased with himself): “I just went to a rock concert last night!”Me (surprised): “Who’d you see?”
My dad: “The Platters!”
Me (smiling): “This is going to be a little different.”
And it was. I love recalling the huge smile on his face when he did the wave at the concert and the wonder in his voice when he asked me, “Are you supposed to feel the music in your stomach?” and “Does everyone know every word to every song?” (“Yes, Dad.”)Here's to everyone out there and "up there" who appreciates U2.

was at a show and one of their banter moments was saying that they were originally the 'Larry Mullin Band'. I can see why. Through many of their songs, the drums shine.

I always read older people than me remember in the RP comments the first time they heard a song, maybe in the 60s. This is my time. I was 17/18 and tuned MTV (Latam) at a precise hour after dinner because they had announced during the day that U2 was playing a new song for the first time ever. It was an instant hit with me.
I'm just gonna give them a 7 cause we all know they are showered with 8's & 9"s and so spoiled and deserve it.

Nice tune for a snowy NH day - and thankfully it is mid-February so the daylight is now apparent before I have to leave for work. Shoveling out in the dark is not so terrible - but driving into work and returning in darkness gets disheartening.

Ann Lucas passed away February 6, 2012, at University of Utah Medical Center, at age 55 due to a subdural hematoma, which required surgery. She was put on life support, but after three days without signs of improvement, her family made the difficult decision to discontinue life support and donate her organs on the 6th.
Ann was born on Oct. 12, 1956, in Twin Falls, Idaho, to Buss and Dorothy Stepp, who encouraged her to follow her dreams. One dream was to become a published author, which she achieved in 2010 with her novel "Life-Dance". She also wrote fan fiction for the television show "La Femme Nikita".
Ann was also a freelance correspondent for the "Elko Independent" newspaper and had a recurring column called "Shaking the Tree", as well as writing articles for "Elko Daily Free Press".
I just hate it when I tune into RP for the first time today, and U2 is playing. Total buzzkill.

A breath of fresh air when I first heard it on FM radio. Which underscores the sorry state of FM radio.
In the context of everything on RP it still holds up pretty well. But when a hit single becomes overplayed there's not much that can rescue it.
Not a U2 hater or a fan boy, although I got a good laugh out of the iTunes fiasco.
Always interesting to read two sides going to war over a song or a band. I'm not sure it's Bill's intent to highlight the lack of real music appreciation that exists (they used to teach it in college, do they still?), and the extent of age- and era-ism that cloud people's perceptions of popular music. In the context of everything on RP it still holds up pretty well. But when a hit single becomes overplayed there's not much that can rescue it.
Not a U2 hater or a fan boy, although I got a good laugh out of the iTunes fiasco.
Always interesting to read two sides going to war over a song or a band. I'm not sure it's Bill's intent to highlight the lack of real music appreciation that exists (they used to teach it in college, do they still?), and the extent of age- and era-ism that cloud people's perceptions of popular music. Yes, the opening night concert was memorable. Despite all the haters out there, U2 always raise the production/concert experience to the next level, which most bands will never achieve

Wow, never realized U2 was so despised. I guess RP is feeling like I do when we have friends over and my dear partner says to me, "put something on everyone will like". I know I am done right then. Thanks RP for the diversity - I won't love every tune you play, but you are orders of magnitude better than any other station I know.

Perhaps you should lay out the circumstances under which it is "necessary" to respond. Then, I would no longer have to wonder. The uncertainty was wearing on me.

In line with that written below, I don't care for much of U2's body of work. However, they have produced two handfuls of iconic songs in their 45 years of rock, and this is one of them.
