She colourblind tired eyes
Her hallway aching
She'll never move him - likes it that way
He's just a walker and he'll never stop walking away
It's not too soon he said
It's not too soon at all
You might as well be dead he said
If you're afraid to fall
I said -
I know her
She said -
Why do you stare so hard
Wrapped up like a doll in bad dreams and broken arms
Make these old bones shiver
It's not too soon he said
It's not too soon at all
You might as well be dead he said
If you're afraid to fall
I said -
I know her
The last time I saw you,
You were standing in the dark
And with a freezing face,
I watched you fall apart
It's not too soon he said
It's not too soon at all
You might as well be dead he said
If you're afraid to fall
I said,
done your time
been in your place
I couldn't look you in the face
and tell you that it turns me on
it makes my stomach turn
I know her

It's that's crazy drumming.  There's a jazz theme somewhere in it.
About the only thing I got out of my college experience around this time ('89-"91) was exposure to incredible underground and alternative music. It has served me much better than anything I got from class.
OK, this is a banger. Raising my rating.

OH how I miss Jesus Jones!

WAIT - this is NOT The New Pornographers ?!
We convinced (bribed) the guy at the door to let us into a Throwing Muses show at The Bottom Line when I was in college (1989). I had a music crush on Kristen Hersh, but a *crush* crush on Tanya Donnelly. Love this tune!
Amongst Tanya Donnely's best, though the cat growling reminds me of her cover of 'Josie and the Pussycats' {#Bananajam}
Transported 30+ years instantly. Was a great time to be alive, I'm grateful.
ahhhh...muses

Polyanna

That's alot of trouble, ya know

This is a great album overall if you like this track - check it out. They have many great albums actually. I love their second album - House Tornado, and also University. These 3 albums are the place to go.
Tanya Donelly is a great songwriter.
Good, but sounds so much like Liz Phair.
still a mystery to me. I wonder where you ended up?
Was incredibly fortunate to have seen these folks a handful (I think 4 or 5) times, back in the day. The shows were just incredible -- among my all-time favorites out of 50 years of fairly avid concertgoing.
Good Tune! I never heard of this band before. Thank You RP!
Solid.  Home runner hitter.
thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you

I had forgotten about The Throwing Muses, what brilliant music, I need to leave now.......
Strong vibes of "Girl from Mars" by Ash. I think it's even in the same key if my ears are to be trusted...

ETA: whoops - this came first. Sorry! Ash's '1977' album came out in '96. I'll get my coat...
Love this! Apropos of nothing, I picked up this cd from Cheap Thrills, a used record/cd store hole-in-the-wall in downtown Montreal before saying goodbye to my friends and family and making the move to western Canada. I recall that not many of my friends seemed to like it like I did, but when I first listened to them, it was like nothing else out there on the airwaves. Thanks RP for bringing back fond memories!
This wins "Best Angry Cat Impersonation in a Musical Composition" Award.

Fun!

Two questions: Would you buy the album? And if you were on a site where you could choose what to play, would you put it in your rotation? If you wouldn't, it shouldn't be higher than a six.

1. Possibly / probably...depending
2. Yes

I had it as a 7 already - means I'm all good - right?

The high bar for power pop.
Just noticed they have a new album out "Sun Racket" anyone heard it?!
They were just plain fierce live -- what a tremendous band.
Fun song!

Very Catchy
Haven't heard this song in years. Brings a smile to my face.
Those drums, that snarl!! Man, I wish I'd paid more attention the this band!!

That's because a mime usually crashes into one of those invisible walls.
Thought this was Liz Phair at first.
This comes to mind.
And just like that, big smile on my face.
Fun factoid about the actual CD itself is it looks like a 1/2 of grapefruit.

At least mimes make a lot less noise when you toss them.
Wackodd job, I like it 😊 Thx
Got to see them live in Vancouver in 1991 just as we were really digging that album. (Love when that happens - like the Cracker show in Winnipeg a few years later.) She was pregnant but still rocked! Wish I could remeber more of the concert
They were a good band! has a moment and then it went away.
great blast from the past.
Great song, great album !!!!

This is an expert blend of genres.
Superfluous:)
Influences of Poly Styrene and Cindi Lauper. About time for a Punk revival - why not?
lordy, that was weird. I was in the middle of reading an article about a plan to reintroduce tigers into the wild in Kazakhstan and this woman in the background starts morphing into a tiger.
Blondie ;)  6
Can't decide which I like better- the guitar riff or the snarling chorus?  :)
Sounds like Chris Whitley. Very Nice.
I'm liking this.
Favorite Throwing Muses tune. Tanya Donelly is a goddess.
Never seem to be able to play this one loud enough, but I'm going to keep trying.
LOVE! {#Bananajam} {#Dancingbanana}
chorus sounds like cat in heat fighting.
easy 7,....8?

Another case of PSD, at least for me.
This song confuses me.

I like being confused.

While goofing off, I checked out his Wikipedia page and noticed this:

"In 2005 Nelson and his family hosted the first annual 'Willie Nelson & NORML Benefit Golf Tournament', leading to a cover appearance and inside interview in the January 2008 issue of High Times magazine."

Makes you wonder whether his handicap improves after lighting up...

Hello RP-Listeners!

I wish all of you "MERRY CHRISTMAS",
wherever you are - whoever you wanna be!

Christmas is a sweet-naive tradition -
not a religious event!

I like it anyway!

Still - I hope Bill takes the chance
to rock the christmas-tree to pieces tonight!

"Happy Christmas
your "BAD SANTA",
aka STINGRAY
-from Cologne/Germany-
PS
Sermon of the day (promise: I'm serious):

The "Three Wise Men" - Melchior, Balthasar + Caspar
are buried in a golden sarcophage in"our" dome, the famous
"Cologne dome" - the third highest church-building
in the world - right in the very centre of town, next to the Rhine.
A gothic building of extra-class!

sounds like a Go-Go's rip off.... lame

I prefer to use a catapult for mimes — that way you don't have to grab around those invisible boxes that they protect themselves with.

Good tune - Tanya Donnely and Kristin Hersh.
...way way way way catchy!..

Nice one!  I heard this song years ago, really liked it but could never remember who it was.  Thanks RP!
This album remains one of my favorites.  One gem after another all the way through.
Gorsh!  What a pleasant surprise.    Put "Two Step (from the same album)" into circulation, and you will have truly moved beyond anything I could hope to hear on Ye Olde FM wireless radio contraption.
This song goes from good to great when she repeats the synth sound with her voice. That part makes the song.
I agree with the Liz Phair/Bangles analogy, but... Heart?? wft?? trempel wrote:

What's wrong with the Go-Go's? I have a hard time listening to RP at work any more, I listen too closely and don't get any work done! I need to find that smooth jazz channel zzzzzzzzzzzz
Go-go's revisited. 'nuff said. (but I kinda like it too)
This one incorporates some of the Sixties all-girl bands (singers only) with grit and cool.
