If I go
Before I'm old,
Oh, brother of mine,
Please don't forget me if I go.

Bartender, please,
Fill my glass for me
With the wine you gave Jesus
That set him free after three days in the ground.

Oh, and if I die
Before my time,
Oh, sweet sister of mine,
Please don't regret me if I die.

Bartender, please,
Fill my glass for me
With the wine you gave Jesus
That set him free after three days in the ground.

Bartender, please,
Fill my glass for me
With the wine you gave Jesus
That set him free after three days in the ground.

I'm on bended knees,
I pray, Bartender please.

When I was young,
I didn't think about it;
Now I can't get it out of my mind.

I'm on bended knees,
Father, please.

Oh, and if all this gold
Should steal my soul away,
Oh, dear mother of mine,
Please redirect me if this gold...

Bartender, you see,
The wine that's drinking me
Came from the vine that strung Judas
From the Devil's tree,
His roots deep, deep in the ground.

Bartender, you see,
The wine that's drinking me
Came from the vine that strung Judas
From the Devil's tree,
It's roots deep, deep in the ground, ground.

I'm on bended knees,
Oh, Bartender, please.

I'm on bended knees,
Father, please.

When I was young,
I didn't think about it;
Now I just want to run and hide.

I'm on bended knees, oh, Bartender, please,
Bartender, please...

Two more seconds of this and I go punch our accountant. Or someone.

You're crazy.
i have this on mute cause it was driving me crazy, so i keep flipping back to see if something different is on. WHEN DOES THIS SONG END?
Call me crazy, but I really like this.
Brilliant improvisational work by Carter on this one. I prefer the album version, but still tasty. I could do with less Dave scat and more Boyd, as usual. Quite likable.
One of Dave's most under rated songs. Great song live as most of his are. The haters can go listen to Simon and Garfunkel and wish it was still the sixties.
soon to be heard over the loudspeakers in guantanamo.

It just won't friggin' quit. Cripes!!
REALLY! ENOUGH ALREADY
make it stop, already!
Gave it a 3 since it does actually sound a touch better than a cat being strangled but man, it just won't friggin' quit. Cripes!!
not a fan...
Don't sing about Jesus! You know what that will get you...
I saw the Dave Matthews Band at Red Rocks in Denver, and they were $%$^^&%$# awsome, best god damn live band I have heard in a long time. Carter the drummer blew me away.

This is an awful song - not sure where they're trying to go with this. Hate it
100% agree...Please don't play this again!

One of his better, rambling pieces. It speaks to me. 9.
Maybe if I didn't already have a headache before this song started I'd have one now anyway.
that goddamnawful whining kennyg style sax; make it stop.

Looking forward to this gig! Haven't seen the full band play live since the Shoreline Theatre in San Francisco in '96. He's in Wembley this year in case anyone is around?
'96! I feel for you. I saw a show the end of last year with the full band. Makes for an unbelievable evening.

Just one more post from me on this song.... I caught VH1's Storytellers with Dave and Tim Reynolds and heard a rough version of this song with a slightly differnt chorus and a much different tempo. The lyrics went something like: Bartender please, fill my glass for me, with the wine you gave Jesus that set him free after 3 days down. Bartender please, roll one up for me, with the kind you gave Jesus that set him free after three days down. It was interesting to hear how the song has evolved and it will be more interesting (to me) to hear what it sounds like on Busted Stuff. :)

Yep, it's Glen Ballard. Ditch, Grace, Bartender, Busted and many others from Lillywhites will be on the new album. I don't know about Kit Kat... Also, you can now go to www.davematthewsband.com and listen to the new single, Where are you Going. It's a wonderful song. Check it out!! It will also be on the new album. :)

yep, it probably is. Bartender has not been released yet, but DMB has been playing it live for about a year or more. It will be officially released in July, on Busted Stuff. :D

Let me try... Yes, there are many live versions out there of this tune. I think this (recorded/studio) version is very good, but any live cut you can find will be better. I just heard Dave play this one live and it was FANTASTIC! Now, another note... this song and many others found on the "Lilywhite Sessions" have been redone, reproduced, resung, re-everything and will be released on July 16 on the bands upcoming new album "Busted Stuff". So, once we get to hear that version, you may like a studio version. Does that answer your question? Please let me know if I can help with any other questions or if I have completly missed the mark here... ;) :)
Carter is, as usual, EXCELLENT on this. Much better, in fact, than on Everyday. Great \'New Orleans\'-style snare work, which would not normally work with a tension-filled song, but it does. Plus, since he plays left-handed on a right-handed set, he can do \"impossible\" stuff like play a pattern on the ride with his left hand while doing a one-handed single stroke roll down on the snare and the toms with his right. Us mere mortal right-handed drummers, even with years and years of practice/playing, can\'t.
i find the trend of the increasing amount of DMB being played here to be very worrying - \"caterwauling\" is how I describe his singing style :D :p

Yes, I turned up the volume to listen to this "unknown Morphine song". Dave must've liked them as well!
Not bad....not bad at all :D
The jam at the end is only 2 chords, but it\'s mighty sweet!
One of my top ten all-time favourite albums......was never released.
They should have put out the LillyWhite recordings instead of Everyday...a much better album.
excellent tune. dave needs to go back to his roots.
Excellent
Cool that your playing stuff off The Lillywhite Recordings, but is this legal? BTW - Grace is Gone is probably the second best song on the Bootleg...
This is blowing my mind!! A track from the "Lillywhite Sessions". Bill this is too good!! How about Grace is Gone or Diggin a Ditch?!! Thanks Bill!!!!!!!
