I'm with you. I liked "Carwheels on a Gravel Road" immensely, but here she just seems to be trying too hard to sound out of key, slurry, and "hip." She is in danger of becoming a parody of herself. Sort of like Gilda Radner doing Patti Smith.
Perhaps Lucinda should cover Radner's "Let's Talk Dirty to the Animals."
Just read an interview with LW today which states that this song is "a tribute to singer Paul Westerberg, who she considers a kindred spirit." (Paul Westerberg being the ex-leader of the Replacements out of Minneapolis). Find that very interesting as I've never made a connection between the two. All the more reason to love Lucinda Williams....
Her voice makes me think of Bill the Cat coughing up a hair ball...
Vocal talents just slightly less than Bob Dylan. I like her music, but girlfriend needs some voice lessons!

umm....Courtney Love hadn't even gone through puberty when Lucinda Williams started out.....she's an original and a bad ass!!!!
Only two musicians I know of have tried to sing an entire song with 3 notes and succeded. The Kingman and George Harrison.
She seems to be over-accentuating the raw twang that she has. I mean, her voice is fine, but when she draws \"reeeaaaalll\", etc., it just seems overdone. -3 for that.
There\'s already one Courtney Love in this world, and that\'s one too many.
her voice drives me nuts! i can appreciate the fact that she is doing some new things for alt. country or whatever you want to call it, but i can\'t stand her TWANG!
Complete and utter crapola. Not that there\'s anything wrong with that!

AMEN!!!!
This is hilarious. Every line of the verses she's singing it in the EXACTLY same manner. And after the fifty-eleventh line I can't stop laughing and have to turn it off... :(
Thought this was Courtney Love.
LOVE Lucinda!

Female Bruce Springstein, So Hot Right Now. ;)
I\'ve heard this song here now a coupla times and I couldn\'t figure out why it sounded somewhat familiar. I keep seeing refs to this song sounding Stones-like...huh...I finally figured out what I think it sounds like...having lived in Austin, TX for a long time I think she sounds like an Alejandro Escovedo wannabe!!! This song would suit his style...anyway, I really like it! :D

Exactly right. This is more a return to her very early style (more blues oriented) than some of her later work. Great stuff!

I like this. The first time I saw Lucinda was on a small stage at a \'98 Lilith fair show. She blew me away at that show and is always does live. This song reminds me of Lucinda live: raw and unpolished. Didn\'t realize her album was out, but I\'ll have to pick this up now. Kevin
It seems she and the guitarplayer try to sound like Keith Richards, but it probably takes that sort of life and of course talent, to make that work. Not recommended to do so, cause most people won\'t manage to live that sort of life.

The more I hear Lucinda, the more I like her. She has a tremendous range of musical mood, with an unmistakable style woven through each.
Pretty good tune.Reminds me of a female Bruce Springsteen. :)
Thank you! Thank you!

Disagree with you both - I think it's the best song on the album! I'm amazed at the songs and sounds she comes up with.
