Sometimes i go walkin through fields
Where we walked
Long ago in the sweet used-to-be
And the flowers still grow
But they don't smell as sweet
As they did when you picked them for me
And when i think of you
And the love we once knew
How i wish we could go back in time
Do you ever think back on old mem'ries like that
Or do i ever cross your mind
Do you ever wake up lonely
In the middle of the night
Because you miss me,do you darlin
Oh and do your mem'ries ever take you back
Into another place and time
And do you ever miss the feelings and the love
We shared when you were with me,do you darlin
I just wonder do i ever cross your mind
Oh how often i wish that again i could kiss
Your sweet lips like i did long ago
How often i long for those two lovin arms
That once held me so gentle and so close
And when i think of you and the love we once knew
How i wish we could go back in time
Do you ever recall these old mem'ries at all
Or do i ever cross your mind
Do you ever wake up lonely
In the middle of the night
Because you miss me,do you darlin
Oh and do your mem'ries ever take you back
Into another place and time
And do you ever miss the feelings and the love

Joan Osborne is so underrated. Her albums are sing along favorites in our home.
It's not as good as the original but it still brought tears to my eyes...
Beautiful talents abound here within !!! 10/10
I may completely lose what's left of my mind!!!!!!!!
Do you know why women out live men?
No woman ever died of heartbreak.
'cept perhaps Joan.

Wow, this is a great version of this song. Great voice!
This sounds like a reworking of Gordon Lighfoots "Did She Mention My Name". Pretty good though....
Boy, this song is lovely, and Joan's voice and inflections are just perfect.
sweeeeet.

He is! I swear he reads my mind at least weekly and plays a song just as I'm thinking about it. Quite talented he is

This is ok but I love Dolly and she's pretty vital to my liking of her songs. If that makes any since. I'd love here some Dolly around here, actually.
There is a little. Of these, the cover of "Shine" tops the selections, to me.
beautiful - touching - real

Joan Joan Joan ?? What happened to your career? A Grammy nominee. Your first CD was brilliant! Still is one of my all time favourites. Then nothing for 8 years? Then a lackluster sophomore release? Then again nothing for a while. Know there has got to be a story there somewhere.
Boy, my thoughts exactly. LOVED 'Relish' - now this?
A big 10-4 on that'n good buddy. Luuuvvv that toon! As I understand it, Dolly was so impressed by Mindy Smith that she agreed to do the background vocals on that track (which you can hear).

As for those that scoff at something Dolly Parton related coming across the plate here at dear old RP, is say peesh! Dolly can write some classic songs. I can't claim to have any of her recordings in my collection, but I certainly respect her musicianship. So there.

She started touring with the Dead as a back up singer
Whatever happened to Joan ?
guitar arpeggi and foot tap same as in Blackbird.

SAT question:
song writing is to Dolly Parton as acting is to:
If you answered "Joan Collins" . . .

I saw Joan in concert this summer and fell in love with her. She did this song, and now I can see her tapping her sandal-shod foot as she sings.
like the dolly verson better, but it's still a great song

Also check out Brother Ray and Bonnie Raitt's duet. It will show you how universal this tune is. Sweet.
IIRC, that's a different song. (Same title, though.)
This track is great. Joan hits the right notes here.
This song is the greatest. Joan takes me to another place and time.
I should send a copy of this song to that special person who came to mind as soon as I heard it. GREAT STUFF! Boston
This is so damn good... see peoples... Joan can do more than sing about God being one of us on a bus
Joan Osborne never ceases to amaze me with her range and soul.
Tugs really hard on the ol' romance bone. Satisfying.
Jolene - by Mindy Smith off this same album is much more to my liking for this genre. Mindy is quite the vocalist and the cover of which I speak is awesome! :nodhead:
Wow...thanks for introducing me to this wonderful version.
This is Joan? I'm shocked -- I love Joan and I didn't recognize her at all; thought it was Emmylou. I must be losin' it.
I like the range in tunes that Joan serves up.
...I can't hear JO without thinking of the god song...I had a buddy named Todd at the time that song was popular...what if Todd was one of us...

Nicely done, not my favorite music though
Very nice. Thanks.

why? what could possibly be offensive about this song, except that it's not radiohead? remember, bubba, "eclectic" is part of the description of the music here at rp.
sweet. I've never heard this side of Joan.
A beautiful song, beautifully done. Also check out Brother Ray and Bonnie Raitt's duet. It will show you how universal this tune is. Sweet.

It's hard to cover D.P.
Not a huge Joan fan, but this is really flawless. Simple and sweet. Not overdone. Love it!
What a nice, gentle song. I've never heard the original but I can already assume she does it justice. A nice, lesser heard side of Joan. Thank you for playing it.
Not as lovely as the Ronstadt-Harris-Parton version, but nice anyway.
How about adding the first Trio collection into the mix?
The guitar progression reminds me of "Will the Circle Be Unbroken"...nice song. Joan's consistent in this regard.
Joan sure can belt them out and now here we hear her singing a sweet balled. She's a very versatile vocalist. This is lovely.
This is nice... a few years ago, Joan "phoned in" a performance at a San Diego street fair... and I nearly got into a major bitch-fest with a chick-friend of mine for dare suggesting that she's anything less than a goddess!
Purdy. :)
Pleasant enough. Folk-fest fare....
Oh boy. I like this A LOT.
Ahh happy melancholy
Not JO's best..the country flavor does work for me but the rest of the album is fantastic
