We gate crashed parties and just stood and stared
We moved to London and stayed in all year
Standing next to you I disappear
You made a choice for us to live it up
I've got a voice inside me saying give it up
Let's get out of here, let's find a new career
You be famous and I'll disappear
I erase myself again
I erase myself again
I erase myself again
I erase myself again
I need security, you favour chance
I ponder everything while you advance
You bring the world to me and I just sneer
In your shadow I disappear
I erase myself again
I erase myself again
(I'm here)
I erase myself again
(I'm here, you're never standing still)
(I'm here)
I erase myself again
(I'm here, you're never standing still)
I'm here, I'm here, you're never standing still
I'm here, I'm here, you're never standing still
I'm here, I'm here, you're never standing still
I'm here, I'm here, you're never standing still
These guys are brilliant...hope new PT material coming soon!
It took over a decade but I reckon the Closure/Continuation album is pretty decent.
I DISAGREE!!! HE BUTCHERED YES!!! EDDIE OFFORD DID A FAR SUPERIOR JOB WITH THE ORIGINAL MIX!!!!
Absolutely! After hearing his take on Yes I couldn't bring myself to search out anything else he remastered.
Steven Wilson is an amazing guy. Check out his remixes of classic albums by Yes, King Crimson, Jethro Tull and yes, Chicago! Sublime....and faithful to the original mix at the same time.

Musicians and other artists are known to deny things such as influences that are rather obvious. If indeed he is not a Genesis fan, maybe he chooses musicians to play with who are fans (I don't believe this is an explanation). There are PT and Wilson solo songs that borrow so heavily from early Genesis that it seems senseless to pretend that the influences are not in effect. Still, we listen to the music and not the interviews, as a general rule.
He's a big fan of Cardiacs, whom some muso journo once called a cross between Pixies and early Genesis. So there are always through lines available, without having to be a direct fan.
I also discovered PT through RP. and Elbow, Shpongle, Alt-J, Goyte, Younger Brother, Chemical Brothers - and those are just my favorites!
c.
Interesting comment. I have often thought of Blackfield, Wilson's side project with Aviv Geffen, as more easily accessible, poppy Genesis.
Wilson has stated in interview that he was not a fan of Genesis. Then he has also stated that the was not a big fan of the Beatles but when I listen to Porcupine Tree's Lightbulb Sun and Even Less, I hear mid-60s Beatles all over it.

Got to hear this on a better sound system.
THANKS!
THANKS!
So True! I remember the 1st Porcupine Tree song Arriving Somewhere Not Here... many years ago and what I continue to hear... still puts a smile on my face
THANKS!

Indeed!

Ha, very funny. "Out-sads" Roger Waters! I will actively seek out an opportunity to use the phrase "Out-sads" in conversation at work today.
Unlikely. But the the last two Steven Wilson albums/CDs are nothing short of extraordinary and brilliant.
Recordings now costs less than a gazillion bucks, is ordered via Amazon.ca and should arrive sometime during the month of June.
Hi Wing!

2000? Try 1987!
Although Wikipedia lists 1987 as the start date, On the Sunday of Life didn't come out til 1991. That really signifies (no pun intended) the beginning of this band. And this album was all Steven Wilson anyway so if you included the full band, it would be "Up the Downstair" in 93. Still alot earlier than 2000 which was 8 albums later! Over half their discography.
This version of Disappear is with the full band, there is an earlier version that Steven did solo that really has more power and energy, especially on the long refrain at the end. It was available on the European version of Lightbulb Sun, and later on Steven Wilson's MySpace page. Worth a listen if you are a hardcore "Tree" fan like me.

I heard it was a fear of spontaneous combustion.

i like this comment a lot.
i love it (this music), too.

Hi Slope!!
Thanks for the public whipping. I deserve it I guess.
buddy gemtag: "public whipping"?
Man I would have put you in a public stockade and invited all the farm teams to throw both soft and hard fruit at you.
Tsk, tsk. In the spirit of Easter, please post images of the flagellation wounds.
2000? Try 1987!

I need to leave my cave more often.

OMFG that is funny!
me thinks this is better. Good tune too

Edit: and the SC version is in fact in stereo, and sounds MUCH better than this version.
I uploaded this version and it was sadly turned down. The history behind this song off the 97 track is that Steven did all the instruments. It was released on the European version of Lightbulb Sun but never made it across the pond.
The intensity at the end chorus is so much better than what we are listening to in Recordings. It shows the true angst of Steven as he copes with loss and finality in a lost relationship. I love the 97 version so much more for this intensity.
Man I feel for you, a life without the Porcupine Tree is no good. The best
music in a generation.

Is this why it sounds really scratchy and very obviously mono? (never really investigated PT's back catalogue in great depth so don't have much knowledge of provenance of particular tracks)
I think so - the (much shorter) version on Recordings sounds a lot better (and very obviously stereo). However, I find this demo version also quite appealing. Fascinating how some song ideas evolve.

PS - I'm going to see them Saturday night at the Fillmore in Miami Beach. Again. Thanks for coming south-er, closer to home, guys.
I hear you.
I read an interview with Alex where he mentioned PT as a cool band. I saw Rush their last tour and I see PT tonight!!
My only regret is that it ends.
Doesn't this song occupy a unique sonic space?
=> 10 (what took me so long?)
Deadwing, You crack us up too.
BTW (referring to an earlier post mine), this household loves Richard Barbieri's solo material. Can listen to it cranked up or as pleasant background/mood music or dinner party music for older guests.
This song reminds me of ..... The Strawbs? some early PF? Something from the British Isles for sure.
I never knew it existed in the first place, and I'm a PT fan. They have one hell of a long and occasionally obscure discography.
Sometimes I crack myself up LOL
If you are computer savey enough which I believe most RP listeners are. If you have the right computer program, this CD and many others can be obtained by download. Much cheaper than $193.88 !!!!!!!!
Nicely stated! Agree!
Nice to hear this on a damp, cool west coast morning.
The Porcupine Tree Sampler 2008 CD arrived in the mail last week from Burningshed, UK. Interesting solo and colloboration material by all individual band members.
Still checking it out. So far I seem to like the Barbieri and Edwin material the best.
mgkiwi,
The DVD on the recent re-release of Lightbulb Sun has Disappear. Much cheaper.
I have that but never played the DVD, thanks for the info.
Yes, indeed, from a lot of us!

Once upon a time.
So I understand that Steven Wilson wants to get married and have children. Given the work ethic, I hope his future spouse is ready to spend tonnes of time alone. hehe
Stunning band.
Well put!
I'll second that - why for why have they never made it big in the UK - strange, perhaps it's choice!
Other artists could have built decent careers on these cutting floor recordings.
