Lights on the stones on backed up drain
Warped lovers loosed on languid stain
We've come together to gather stars
Shooting up stones our powdered hearts

Dead or alive
There's danger
The dead are all right, with me
We're not gonna run away,
We're not gonna leave you stranger
Turn the light on, yr lonely love

Camera on the haunted stones
Bloodshed a gentle painted score
Notes dance in ink across yr skin
Heiroglyphic lover, nature friend

Dead or alive
There's danger
The dead are all right, with me
We're not gonna run away,
We're not gonna leave you stranger
Turn the light on, yr lonely love

Ha!  Very funny!
But I doubt it.
Just outstanding. One of their best tracks, late in their career.
Opinions are like assholes, everyone’s got one and they’re full of shit. This song rocks!

Sehr geiler Sound. Jack

Reading comments. Part of the greatness of RP! No doubt
I really like the opening.

How I DO LIKE this song. Deceptively simple. Decidedly complex. Treadworthy scales and tonal rompage, it's all here and digable -- and all laid down right next to that killer SY straight-to-ground-line that gets me sitting up like one of Syd's old Siam Cats every single time. Aye, an' let 'er rip, lads and lassies! Now that you've established your grooveworthiness beyond all possible belief by playing stuff like this, Bill, how's about a little something off of Dirty maybe? Bill is that some BigHead coming on? YOU ROCK, DUDE!

Yes to playing something off "Dirty" or "Goo!"
Magnificent.

Interesting! I, too, would love to hear the trippy jammings of the great and unfortunately obscure Gabor Szabo here on RP! Dig it!
When this came out, I was in Tokyo, and it took me by storm. In my opinion, the power of it has only grown! Guitars and angst, cranked!
What an excellent track. Love these guys since Evol and Daydream Nation.

Good segue would be Gabor Szabo, Gypsy 66 which I chose for my guitar audition at Berklee.

It's true. Singing is high school boy. But it sounded fresh in 2004 against Eminem and Alicia Keys.

Totally, man. DCFC are like the better Sonic Youth. Something to be grateful for.

I don't like this song.  Crappy guitar work.
Freaking awesome! Always loved Sonic Youth. Too bad they've broken up.

Incinerate!

Back in my day, all the cool kids wore Daydream Nation shirts. Finally bought a SY album in 1994. It certainly is Trash worthy of No Star.

Still gave the band a chance by seeing them live in 1996. The fans loved them. I didn't.

Then Stones played here on RP in 2004. Whoa! What is this awesomeness?!

Bought the album. Four excellent tracks. I became a fan. The songs New Hampshire and Dripping Dream from this album are played here, too. I enjoy Paper Cup Exit to top the four.

Then arrived Rather Ripped. Though it's an uneven album, it does contain some outstanding tracks.

So I bought a bunch of other experimental albums issued in the 2000's. They have a huge amount of disks! Didn't like any others disks. One was a whole hour of guitar feedback (who does that?).

Then The Eternal came out three years later. The whole album is outstanding. I've listened to it hundreds of times. It's one of my favorite albums. I love it. My only complaint is the low budget recording. Regardless, I am so sad it was their last work together.

Excellent summary of most peoples' experience with SY, only the favorite albums change.

By the way: An hour of guitar feedback? Who does that, you ask?
They sure do love the early Cure guitar playing and so do I
I liked this a lot until the vocals started. Now I still like it but not as much. Just sayin...

Correct....and I'm exceptionally impressed I actually heard SY yesterday also!  Now if we could just dig into Daydream Nation, Goo, Dirty, Washing Machine or.....!  There are tracks on all those albums that are appropriate here.

Good band that never gets enough recognition.

Do you ever work with an otologist?  They might do some sort of "sonic" tests.
Sounds like every other Sonic Youth song?
When I read comments on RP about Sonic Youth... I should just shut the fuck up.

Thanks again RP.  As a New York I of course know of the band.  Hell I even own one album and saw them live opening for Pearl Jam.

I've read 100 stories where they were mentioned.  Yet I did not own this fantastic piece of rock and roll music.

Until about 20 minutes from now when I leave work and head over to J&R music and buy this.

Thanks
{#Guitarist}Don't think I have ever heard this tune before-I like it.
from that first gooney bird with evol in my walkman the day 9th grade ended, all the way to today; it's been an expressway of sonic truth
Zowwee this rocks
daydream nation was fantastic, really timeless, the tape in my cars recorder must be twenty years old!
To me the Youth have a stripped of all the "B—- S——" quality to their music. Pure and straight rock band. No pretense and no BS. Magnificent.

Great sound.

Just went from 8 to 9 because it gets better every time I hear it. I think if I heard it too much I might get burnt, but for now, I love it!
Awesome band!   I can't think of many others who have consistently grown more varied and interesting well into the second (third?) decade of their careers.  Of many many live shows I have seen, Sonic Youth have always been outstanding.
So where's the lyrics about "nurse good body" and some personalized bed-side manners?

Aren't nurses part of the top three male fantasies?

(lighten up now everybody, after all, it's Hump Day Wednesday at the office)

When I bought this CD I only really liked 2 or  3 songs. The more I listen to it the more I like - there's really only one song I skip over much anymore. Such a great CD! "Pattern Recognition" walks a wonderful fine line between harshness and beauty.

Maaaan, I just totally love the Sonic Youth guitar sound. You can hear it from a thousand miles away!
I like the opening and closing instrumental

Have to agree with my Copenhagen friend... Not a bad tune, but the lame singing kind of kills it for me.

Are you trying to work, too? Gosh, it's the reason I show up now, so I can hear RP. Bill, you've saved my employer from having to fill my shoes, and you should be congratulated. Actually, I get more done because I'm in a good mood!
Oh this music is so sweet. Especially when there is no singing.
I gave this an 8 right out of the chute and I want to hear it again. :-) this is a great set I think: 3:07 pm - Sonic Youth - Stones 3:03 pm - The Frames - The Cost 2:59 pm - Sixteen Horsepower - Hutterite Mile
Even relatively tame late-period SY scrubs the floor with most of the rest of all so-called rock bands put together. This is great!
Well,... is this a tune from the washkitchen? There is no possibility of comparison with Neil Young!
I saw them once, opening for Neil Young...all I remember is the song Highway to my Skull...
Sonic Youth are TUFF.
Simply greaaaaat SY's guitars are always superb and this is one of their best concerning this aspect. Their concert in Berlin last dec was... was... well, no words can describe the energy and the passion that this 40s have on the stage. SY rules !!!!

Like the Butthole Surfers, I liked them way, way, way back. But now they both pretty much bore me to death. What happened? Is it me, is it them? Where's the passion?
Everything I want to know about rock'n'roll is contained in this song. And the guitar solo rocks!
Saw them w/Neil Young one night...earsplitting loud magic! 9

Thanks for the break. I can't take any more country music.
I don't know if it's just because i'm a young indie kid, but Thurston's songs from Sonic Nurse are my favourites by the band.

I finally got this CD for Christmas. This is easily the best track on there... I can play it over and over again at HIGH volume.
