Is it this place that makes me fall from you?
Forget the words that once rang so true
Did we expect that life was ever fair, my God...
I sowed a field of rose and reaped a whipping rod
And everything I've held too tight inside
Could make a part of me die
And if my lips could only speak the name
The dam would break

What is this ice that gathers 'round my heart?
To stop the flood of warmth before it even starts
It would make me blind to what I thought would always be
The only constant in the world for me
And every hour of every day
I need to fight from pulling away
And if my mind could only loose the chain
The dam would break

For all the things I hid away
And all the words I could not say
The dam would break

It is from Monty Python but it's not from the candy skit; it's from a news skit about a fictional rock band.  It is surprising that there has yet to be a band named "Crunchy Frog" or "Lamb's Bladder Cup" though.

It was between this and Frog the Moist Bracket.
smeagol/gollum
These guys were with me for some of my best years in Western Japan... I'd heard of them, from a CU classmate, in Grad School, in '91, and she told me to look into them, so in '93, in Ishikawa, I did. By the summer of '94, when the MTV videos from "Dulcinea" were all over the bars in Guam, where I was on a diving vacation, I was hooked. Even as the snow swirled around my 4WD Subie in the wilds of Noto in winter, they jammed in my CD player and warmed my heart. Countless memories are associated...they're a treasure to me!

Toad the Wet Sprocket takes its name from a Monty Python comedy sketch called "Rock Notes" , in which a journalist delivers a nonsensical music news report: Rex Stardust, lead electric triangle with Toad the Wet Sprocket, has had to have an elbow removed following their recent successful worldwide tour of Finland.

Same here. I checked the lyrics, but it's missing that part.

No guilt. I love Toad. Saw them a few times in the mid-90's, a really good band.

Yeah, Toad!  I got turned onto them by a gal from SoCal in '91 while in Grad School at CU. I can never forget walking into a bar in Tamuning, Guam, the summer of '94 and seeing them jam "Woodburning" from Dulcinea on MTV. Then I REALLY got into them!
I've always loved this band - a great rock version of bluegrass virtuoso Glenn Philips

Saw them in Annapolis 2 weeks ago & they played several new songs that will be on their new album...good stuff.

Not so much a college-band, more connected to people's memories from highschool/college...
Great band nonetheless... This is my favourite song!

Why didn't Toad get ant airplay back then?  Such great music - unheard by the majority of the world. . .My mind could have used their music at the time.
Yes, "Helgi" - very-very nice!

90% of "Toad" is very nice - and you better believe me!

After their split 10 years ago they are talking about a new album in 2011!

VERY UNDERRATED BAND - considered to be a college-band!
Something that was sooo wrong!!

GREAT-GREAT albums!

I recommend "DULCINEA" - the one before "COIL",
what had been their last! So far...!

Nice!!
Uhum, well, to me this is one of their best songs, absolutely love this one!!
How surprised to hear it here, but then again, actually not surprised at all... {#Lol}
not their best work but o.k.

I know what you mean —- Walk On The Ocean can bring me to tears.  Fall Down is a good antidote though.

And long after the fact, Toad has become one of my favorite bands.

So do I, it somehow brings tears into my eyes.

These guys were/are fabulous. Glen Phillip's solo cd's are worth checking out too.

Coil is probably my favorite TtWS CD.  If you like this group make sure you check out Todd Nichols (guitarist) & Dean Dining (bassist) in the group Lap Dog.  They represent the harder-edged part of Toad's core personnel.  See: https://www.lapdogmusic.com
Lots of free MP3s of their work are there for the taking...

I just love Toad, but I always feel sad listening to their music.
have to say, after the last set of: Delaney & Bonnie - Coming Home
David Gilmour - There's No Way Out Of Here
Elvis Costello - Watching The Detectives
this song comes off as a bit of, oh let's just say "out of place."

Really?? Cool. I thought they had broken up, never to return. I'll look into it!

Oh, THIS is what they sound like. Glad I know now; I won't buy anything.
A bit dull to my ears.

Listen to Walk on the Ocean and let us know what you think.

You should give some more of their music a listen. You might change your mind...

Just love Toad, but they are so melancholy.
This might be the only Toad song I've ever liked.
Interesting stuff.

Actually, its not. You might be thinking of 'Crunchy Frog'. Following is taken from (click here) It came from a Monty Python sketch, yes, but more specifically, it came from one called "Rock Notes" which was basically a call-in show about the latest bands. All of the bands have silly names, but "Toad the Wet Sprocket" is the silliest. Apparently, the Monty Python members tried to come up with a name so obtuse that it would never, ever be the name of a real band.
