Crow Jane, and Crow Jane, and Crow Jane
Don't you hold your head too high
Someday, baby you know you got to die

I'm gonna buy me a pistol,
Long as I am tall
Shoot Crow Jane just to see her fall

There's a reason I told Crow Jane
Don't you hold your head so high
Someday, baby you know you got to die
You got to lay down, and die
Lay down

Yes, I dug her grave
With a silver spade
Ain't nobody gon' take Crow Jane's place

I wanna dig her grave
With a silver spade
I aint gonna let nobody take her place

There's a reason I told Crow Jane
Don't you hold your head so high
Someday, baby you know you got to die
Crow Jane, Crow Jane

You never missed your water
'Til your well run dry
I didn't missed Crow Jane until the day she died

There's a reason I told Crow Jane
Don't you hold your head so high
Someday, baby you know you got to die

Gonna lay down and die

When I was a young artist the harshest criticism I received was from the 25%. The average IQ is 100. On a bell curve, around 50% hover at the top of the bell curve or close by. By definition, 25% are less intelligent and 25% more intelligent than ordinary. When you figure out which 25% hates your work, you'll know something about yourself and your work.
I could almost take this as Prince doing the blues

I used to produce some music and like, three bands.
It's a really hard thing to balance - Making "Right" music opposed to make the "Mistake" totally make the song.
So while I agree he is out of his register, for this genre, it makes for something very unique. And I REALLY respect that. I have a feeling that him, the band, the producer and the fans understand what he is doing.
Nice music, weird lyrics/subject....
DTB, The Duane Tribute Band
Thnx, again....B & R...for selecting something different, at least to my ears, from The DTB! I liked the 1st tune y'all played here and, have a few DTB downloads in my library!! And, thnx for THAT rather massive expansion!!!
Great groove. I can't stand the vocals, though.
Ha!

When I first heard this, I thought it was Prince!

But the slide gave it away.

hmmmm - just plain love this song, and loved it when they played it in a small theater here in central PA....

I'm just another old-fart-Daddy — with superb tastes in music.
Well the vocalist is from Minneapolis, and he ain't Derek either.

Some musicians have it, some are technically proficient but play completely without it. I have given this one an "8" but I confess that some of Derek Trucks work (including albums and live performance) doesn't do much for me. Susan Tedeschi on vocals?

Derek Trucks actually DID grow up playing guitar, and probably quite a bit of that time in the Delta.  Moron.

Disagree.  Not only does the falsetto work, it gives the song a very cool, bluesy quality.

Oh my goodness! A rock'n'roll song which is misogynistic? Someone should do something! Annie, do some research -- this is an old "traditional" blues song with alternate meaning. Don't take the lyrics at face value.

Lyrics worth looking up. Thought this was about JJC's preferred substance of abuse.
Wow, something rare on RP, a mysoganistic song! Oh wait, thats not at all rare on RP >:(
Ugh! That falsetto is horrible!
Sadly this song is becoming the poster child for "overplayed" here. There has got to be something else besides this track worth listening to, eh? Sheesh. It may be a great tune but it does not repeat well.

Thank God for that! Prince wishes he could play like Ernie Isley and vocally he just sucks at trying to rip off all his influences there too. Learn a little music history before you start crediting the likes of Prince for being an innovator of anything.
Ernie Isley?? Brownie McGhee was using Crow Jane Blues as part of his set long before the Isley Bros. And even he admits he got it from someone else. This is one blues that has a looooooong history.

Wow. I thought I heard Jimi there at the end. Most excellent blues offering from the Derek Trucks Band.

Just finished Clapton's autobiography. Derek toured with EC, who sang the kid's praises. That's quite an endorsement IMHO.

jeez, anybody with falsetto is like Prince? I agree, he's a great guitarist, he's great with Allman Bros, and has a great band. Not afraid to mix it up, stylistically.

Ok, changed it from a 7 to a 9. Great tune. Saw Derek in front of the Allman Bros last Summer. Impressive.
Should have had his wife do the vocals(Susan Tedeschi).Spelling?
Big ups the Sacremento music vortex massive!
About as funky as the blues can get!
Kickass! Music with FEEL!
Wow.
Yeah
wow, I've never heard Derek Trucks; i just knew him (and Warren Haynes) came from that 'southern rock' scene but this is fantastic!
I like this kid, missed him as he played in the Burgh last month at Mr Smalls. Bummer
wow, had to stop working, and take a listen...
Another band I wouldn't have heard if it weren't for RP. I should make a list. It would be long! Great instrumentals, could do without the Prince "Kiss" vocals (aka falsetto male singing)
