Dave Fanning, a DJ on 2FM here in Ireland, summed up In Rainbows as 'beautiful' when it was released. It's a word that pops into my head every time this song starts. It invariably bouys me up in this mad human world.

Just watched a documentary that made mention of the fact that Radiohead were the openers for Alanis Morrisette during a portion of her Jagged Little Pill tour (her backing band featured Taylor Hawkins (man, RIP dude!) of the Foo's as her drummer!)...that is a strange collision of ascendancy and popularity if you ask me.  She said they were very aloof and didn't much care for them...lol...can't imagine why...

Early Radiohead sounds a lot like Kino, a Russian group popular in the eighties. although  Kino's singer/songwriter was a baritone.

Not many tracks stop me dead in my tracks when I'm busy at work ... but this one does. Always has. Can't explain coherently here as to why, other than it's wonderfully complex and "edgy" and so brilliantly crafted. In Rainbows is an album that I just couldn't get my head around when it was first released. Maybe they were just way ahead of the curve back then when it was released (2007), but now - it's probably my most played RH album. As from their Wiki page "On 12 July (2014), Jonny Greenwood stated that Radiohead would "start up in September, playing, rehearsing and recording and see how it's sounding" ... Salivating here at the thought of what's to come!

But to answer your question - the planet is earth (in my opinion of course - although I'm joined by many - it doesn't make it fact)

I couldn't disagree more with some of your opinions (weak voice?, rectal itch?, mindlessly arranged noodling?, no different fom dozens of RH songs??)

I'm thinking Thom's voice is a powerful 5th or 6th instrument - used in a wide variety of ways - in RH's catalog.
I believe the arrangements are precisely and splendidly arranged and the playing powerful, fluid and unique in rock.

My opinion is this album overall and this song in particular are more accessible to the average listener than many of their prior 2 or 3 efforts, very different from the vibe of Kid A, Amnesiac and Hail to the Thief.  I think that's why many folks on this board who are not big RH fans still express admiration for this tune/album.

Won't address your feelings in your rear quarters.  These guys have a major affect on my mind, heart and soul.
