Huge letdown when it isn't!
EXCELLENT!! ICONIC!!  Brings back memories!   Thanx RP
I am sure this has been posted before but... check out the movie La Vallee... A French film from 1972 also know as "Obscured by Clouds" the album is the sound track for the film and it's a pretty interesting movie to say the least!
Bias = nothing special but you know it's Pink Floyd so average rating is 8.1.
While in the Army I did some training in the Mojave desert and brought along my yellow Sony Walkman and this tape. One night I was able to listen to this album and fall asleep while staring straight up at the stars. I still have good memories of that night. : )
I'm so grateful that my existence coincided with Pink  Floyd's music.
I would not be the person I am, had I not had Pink Floyd.
This might be the earliest experimental Pink Floyd that I like. It's quite excellent. 9
Hey spack's!

Oh well, I'm happy with track 1 and 2 together....LLRP!!

At the risk of sounding condescending, it's actually heart-warming for me to know that there is someone out there who thinks PF "sold out" with Dark Side of the Moon, which for most humans is the first time the group registered on their radar. I think the reality is that this was a group of very creative musicians who kept evolving, though for me the breaking point was the post-Waters "no this isn't really a Dave Gilmour solo album in disguise or music by committee" era. And I accept that many folks love that era.

I couldn't agree more. It's now 9:30pm-ish August, 24th,2019...and guess what..."When Your're In" is playing as  I type. It appears that the comments are read...Thanks RP !!!!
I'm sure not an original thought, but this is probably the most underrated Pink Floyd album. It has many of the great elements of  Dark Side of the Moon, but in a rough draft form.

Oh yes. Bill is playing Obscured by Clouds back to back with When You're In. 2 amazing early PF gems.
Ahhhh my introduction to Pink Floyd. Laying down with my Koss headphones hearing the massive synth fade in and just coming on to a bit of blotter delivered to me inside the album jacket by a good friend. Those were the daze!
Just when you think you've got a handle on knowing everything in the rock universe... this comes along...
Gems hidden in every decade eventually come to light on RP...
Is RP going through my CD collection again?
Can't believe I'm hearing this on RP! This is why I am a supporter. 10+

Floyd and Robin trower and some jamin' Jam? Thank you from the Monday night party folks. Continue please?
Oh, wow....
My dad raised me on these guys. I've been a fan ever since. Not many people get to say that there dad brought them to see Pink Floyd when they were 14.
Whoah; raging guitar, wicked keys, thunderous bass and machine-gun drumming don't get any better than this! Timeless sublime rock!

A song from Pipers at the Gates of Dawn would be a good follow...

I wouldn't call this period transitional. Beginning with the dismally-depressing Animals, the later period when Waters took over was transitional, ultimately leading to the end of a great long run.

For me it was all over after Wish You Were Here. But that, plus everything that came before (save for most of Piper) will forever remain an integral part of who I came to be (starting in '68 with SoS).

Later PF-labeled Gilmour bits are OK, but they weren't enough to cause me to remain the uber die-hard fan I've long been in relation to the period you describe.
How about some Ummagumma - Several Species Of Small Furry Animals Gathered Together In A Cave And Grooving With A Pict
Always an attention getting and compelling track! Love it.  A "bridge" album from their earliest work to what became their more popular sound starting with Dark Side. Several good tracks on this one.
I can remember the day I heard all the earlier Pink Floyd albums up to The Wall, also this one. Fabulous!

Just listened to my vinyl album and have a request Bill.  Next time you play this track seeing as it is an introduction and so short please would you consider playing the second track, "When you're in",  immediately afterwards?

Yeah, what Pedro said.

A very welcomed sound as this song began

Cake::Arco Arena -> Pink Floyd::Obscured by Clouds

Mind Blown
Spacemen 3 - takes this to the next (ultimate) level

note to self: don't double-click the RP site and accidentally load two RPs about half a second apart. While this will enhance Pink Floyd's remarkable music offering, it may lead to flash-backs.
So freaking GREAT to hear this on RP...if only the next and absolutely ripping track off the record came next!  Used to blow people away at parties; many folks, every time, were like, "Whoah, WHO is this?" and many were rooted to the spot to learn of its sneaky pinkness...

such a great track, but not the best on the album. this album, like DSOTM, is to be savored without interruption and with the finest of substances.

yes, More is a little better imho, but worth watching.  The best PF soundtrack though is "Come in Number 51 Your Time is Up" (a re-name of Careful with That Axe Eugene) done for Zabreski Point.. shown here:  https://www.facebook.com/pages/edit/?id=105347862834416#!/pages/FuzyTweets/105347862834416

3 great instrumentals blending into each other:

Oscar Lopez - Classical Soul
Cake - Arco Arena
Pink Floyd - Obscured by Clouds

Rush and "Tom Sawyer" came years after "Obscured by Clouds".
I can listen to a Pink Floyd track at any time. Wish You Were Here is one of my desert island favorites. This track is exceptionally good as well

This album deserves more attention than it gets!

Great stuff!

your copy is much better sounding than my old vinyl...Gilmore's guitar is unmistakable

The only pre-DG LP was Piper At the Gates of Dawn.

nope, with Gilmour.

What a great tune.  This is quintessential Floyd.  Just crank  it up and close your eyes.

{#Music} I still have the vinyl!

A clean 10. Thank you!

The shock is beginning to wear off, but (once again) RIP, Rick.
...so cool to hear this...
I wondered when this would get some play time on RP. A PF classic and I think a real transition point for the band!
Oscar Lopez - Classical Soul Cake - Arco Arena Pink Floyd - Obscured By Clouds That was one of the smoothest 3-song segues I have ever heard.
Agree, the next song needs to be there. The movie from which this is a sountrack to is even more frustrating for those who have the album deeply ingrained as they play only parts of each song - movie is cool though, though More is better and both are firmly in the B movie genre.

sweet.

Very cool indeed. But you should really play the next track "When You're In" right after - that's where they step on the gas, and the two tracks really belong together.
Very cool. Floyd I've never heard before. Thanks for this!
Wish it was longer.

to bad the next track wasn't played (that could make sense musically) .. that could take it to the next level .. still Thanks very much! OScar
Ahh, music from the Happy Floyd period
Easily 20 years since I heard this. Awesome.
