Water's gonna overflow,
Swamp's gonna rise,
No boat's gonna row.
Now, you can train on down
To Williams Point,
You can bust your feet,
You can rock this joint.
But oh mama, ain't you gonna miss your best friend now?
You're gonna have to find yourself
Another best friend, somehow.
Now, don't you try an' move me,
You're just gonna lose.
There's a crash on the levee
And, mama, you've been refused.
Well, it's sugar for sugar
And salt for salt,
If you go down in the flood,
It's gonna be your own fault.
Oh mama, ain't you gonna miss your best friend now?
You're gonna have to find yourself
Another best friend, somehow.
Well, that high tide's risin',
Mama, don't you let me down.
Pack up your suitcase,
Mama, don't you make a sound.
Now, it's king for king,
Queen for queen,
It's gonna be the meanest flood
That anybody's seen.
Oh mama, ain't you gonna miss your best friend now?
Yes, you're gonna have to find yourself
Another best friend, somehow.
i just love the vocals on this track. so good.
got to see them live and was amazed.
You lucky duck. I wish that I could have been there to hear & see them too!

Couldn't get here fast enough to say, "WOOOOHOOOO!"
... and apparently rated it 10 back then. Still one of the best blues-rock albums released this century.
The naysayers are blues haters. They most likely listen to hip hop when alone. Not that all hip hop is bad just a great deal of it. I fear for the fate of blues and jazz because the last couple of generations are not exposed to it enough. Thanks to radio Paradise they can still hear them both.
I Agree! Very well stated! Thanx RP!
I hate blues, but not as much as I hate hip hop.
Top 40 then?
Look at the cover photo and call it quick:
1) A person in wearing a hoodie and ball cap looking straight out.
2) A person with long hair and a pronounced Adam's apple looking up.
ha that's funny

I see where you're coming from. 1) looks like a little guy in a massive coat with no visible neck. I didn't see it any other way for years...

No way it can be anything other than 2, unless a hoodie can form into a man's face looking up.
It's great to hear this on RP. Now if you would only play Johnny Winter, Johnny Guitar Watson, Johnny Copeland, and Albert Collins once and a while your station would reach perfection. Now it's just great.
Well -
Johnny Winter and Albert Collins are played here.
So where does that put us?

As we say here in London: Bollocks! RP is and has been and will be great. pxd

What a baffling comment! Derek Trucks is a prodigy with a pedigree.
I think he may prefer singers more of the Robert Plant with his thing caught in his zipper style.
I just punched this up on Spotify because I hadn't heard it in a while. You may say he can't sing, but he sure makes his guitar sing.

Continuos education :-)
BTW, song to be proud of.
Isn't that what the best blues sound like?

Well....Gosh!! All these years I thought he was pretty good but your insightful comment sure set me straight. I guess that means no more Derek Trucks for me now that I've seen the light.
You're welcome!

How about that for a laugh... son you are a clueless schmo-mo-mee.
We gonna have The Donald take care of you and all of the other fools on your shipwreck
Why do Trumpsters try to use the Donald to threaten others? Would one be afraid of a blue-footed booby? A molerat? An orange haired duffus? And Donald will first create the shipwreck.
actually he doesn't sing on this
that's why I can only give it an 8

I 2nd that motion.
But they have made at least one decent song: This Sky
I have to remember that subtle sarcasm and deliberate understatement are sometimes misinterpreted in web forums.

*****Bump........ That time Cynaera responded to one of my posts.
So strange- I'm not a huge fan of Southern Rock (I despise Lynyrd Skynyrd in all shapes and forms), but I always adored The Allman Brothers. The Allman Brothers' music always had a very heart rending, tortured, sad, rebellious, proud, stark, REAL feel to me.
Lynyrd Skynyrd were like the loud mouthed, mean spirited, gleefully ignorant, toothless rednecks that sat at the back of the bus and hassled everyone.
I'm probably spelling Lynyrd Skynyrd wrong- but they're not worth the 2 seconds it would take to Google them to check.

Deadwing: I am a fan of a lot of Southern Rock, but I think your statements and sentiments about the Allman Bros. and Skynyrd are largely accurate; at least they are in my mind.
Yeah, LS seemed seriously redneck and without a lot of love or joy. You don't hear much of the band on various stations anymore, although they were huge before that plane crash.
LizK, I agree: Clapton/Southern Rock?!?! Nnnnooo...
You might like Clapton more or less, his first or last of middle albums: that is a matter of taste. He is not a slide-man, agreed, but it is a fact that he knows how to handle the slide, Motherless children is the typical example but several live performances (including the last 2005 Cream re-joining concert) demonstrate it.
Going back to the origin, the Derek Trucks Band sounds great, it has been a discover to me, thanks RP!
I am not even a fan of Clapton anymore, his albums since ""Slowhand"", Ya, 30 years ago, are over-produced, too pleasing, superficial, and no adventure. Once in a while I listen to his life-performances in more recent years, with often younger musicians and then it is all right. He seems a modest person, just contributing in his sincere way, his craftmanship, and will never oberwhelm äll that acting nowadays. Just listen to his older albums, his contribution to the Allman Brothers, My favourite is the Life at Fillmore East album, this is among the nicest live music around in 40 years. Two guitars, helping eachother to great hights, a fantastic double rythm-section, the sustaining Hammond by Gregg, this is life at the most beautiful musical moments.
Am not an English native speaker, so sorry for wrong grammar. But I pretend to know a bit about good guitar work in music, so listen to
Jimmy Hendrix, S. R. Vaughn, J. Beck, Django Edwards, K.Burrell, W. Montgommery, F. Zappa, they are/where no gods, but very close to getting us, the public, having a blink in it.
Interesting. I don't think I've ever seen/heard Clapton play slide. Anyone?
I guess he's not really known for it, but he did once in a while. This was the only tune I could think of, but I'm not a big Clapton fan:

The singer of this song is Mike Mattison! Derek Trucks never sings!
I didn't know that. Thanks. Love Derek Trucks Band.
I've heard of Prog rock but Frog rock, well that's something. Derek Trucks, If you don't like rock then go play somewhere else. Derek Trucks, excellent a solid nine from me.

Si, si, helgiger. I was just commenting on the earlier negative comment about Trucks, which I found rather funny since it was not Trucks singing, as you have pointed out.
Typically, the bands played on this station have more than one song.
At least he's getting the full use out of those frogs...
Listening to this song makes my mullet grow.
And the award for best comment on this song goes to....
And your idea of a great singer? Just so we can mock, uh..., enlighten you with full information.
Says the person that has Dylan songs rated 10's.
Don't get me wrong, I like Dylan and love his ability to tell a story, but not only is Trucks voice not any worse than Dylan's, his guitar playing is terrific as well. Certainly makes Trucks' music listenable, at least for this RP'er.

Economic Storm Clouds Ahead
Look, I don’t want to rain on the parade. But any self-respecting weather forecaster would warn you to zipper up and take an umbrella. Don’t be swayed by all the sunny talk. There are too many storm clouds ahead.
Spam alert.
this album is awsome! Varius singers ,varius blues, varius songs. And a great DTB! You need to hear the whole cd!

I agree eerily...i did not want to think of Lynyrd in such a negative way...but i surely am channeling Duane Allman from 40 years ago
You, sir, need to listen to some Skynyrd that isn't played on radio stations. (Comin' Home, Simple Man, Ballad of Curtis Leow, eg.)
I agree...
everybody in my church loves this song...
Time for remedial probability lessons. However you want to define "chronic repetition", it ain't happenin' here. I really have lost all patience for such griping.

The first few notes reminded me of one of my old favorite slide blues guitarist, Johnny Winter. Whatever happened to that dude? Johnny and his brother Edgar Winter could sure play their axes.
allow me to repeat myself....
allow me to repeat myself.....
A lot of ignorance around about E. Clapton/ his"" once in a while""" slide guitar work?? Just do not rely on internet, what was/is truth to this man's musicianship. Whoever thinks reality is on internet ,comments, etc. must be dumb, lazy, and totally wrong.A problem of the younger generation.
