Looking out across suburban yards
To the construct of our days through the thinning of the trees.
How come I only build a house of cards
That gets blown to pieces by the fall's first fickle breeze?
When I feel that stirring, the illicit kiss,
It's just the cool tongue of the devil with a sucker in his midst.
One day, I'll change.
You'll be the first one that I call.
I owe you an apology, too many thanks, and that's not all.
'Cause I've been running long before I learned to crawl.
My calendar lies crumpled, laid to waste.
It's been scrawled on, thumbed through and changed.
Will this be the measure of my days -
Dinners and appointments and deadlines I can't make?
When I start to feel it making sense for me,
That's just hope springing eternally.
One day, I'll change.
You'll be the first one that I call.
I owe you an apology, too many thanks, and that's not all.
'Cause I've been running long before I learned to crawl.
Outside the summer's gone for good,
Dying impatiens, stacked up wood
My friends will get together to cook,
Talk about what's happened, take a second look.
The master loves the servant who blind heeds him.
The husband, the obedient wife.
The snake will always bite the hand that feeds him,
Even if you love him, even if you save his life.
One day, I'll change.
You'll be the first one that I call.
I owe you an apology, so many thanks, and that's not all.

Indigo Girl: If you were really to change you'd quit writing songs about yourself.
Wrote one good song, 20 years ago. Get over them.
Nice song, reminds me of Lee Ann Womack (i am fairly new to RP, but I thing I figured out that writing an Artist in the comments will increase the chances to have this artist playing next...)
I'm an IG fan, but this is 3rd rate stuff. There's far better to be heard.
3 -> 2 ... Each time I listen to this song I like it less
Sweet melody... I like it!

Like Natalie Merchant, I dislike this band way out proportion with how bad they actually are (if that makes sense). The only thing that ever comes through a Natalie Merchant song is her own brand of cold elitism - like she is too superior to actually put personal warmth in the song. Like she is singing to servants. How could anyone do a completely sexless cover of "Because the Night?"
Indigo Girls, who I may be judging harshly based on their radio hit "I went to the mountain" or whatever it is called, have a consistently prim, prissy sound, with sanctimonious lyrics. Like a group of Jane Austin spinster aunts.

Hhhhmmm? I saw this band in London last night and thought they were great, again. I'm also a huge fan of Natalie Merchant who in my view is awesome. But then i like people who express an opinion more than i like people who just read their opinions so i guess its just different strokes for different blokes.

They are a musical act, not some kind of cult masters.
Not sure how lyrics like, say, "I'm closer to fine" are sanctimonious.

The Indigo Girls are such hot babes! Nevermind, I was thinking of the Dallas Cowboys cheerleaders. I always get them mixed up with the Indigo Girls...doesn't everybody?
