Jerry Douglas' dobro is unmistakable. Easily recognizable in the first chord. Brilliant work and pairs beautifully with Alison's voice (on other songs).
Quite parodic. But still very good anyway.
Hell man,
I thought it was New Grass Revival or the Seldom Scene.
Or a Ricky Skaggs playing with the Whites.

I know that it is probably sacrilege to attribute this thought to such a talented group of musicians, but the first thing I thought of when this song came on was "this sounds like a soundtrack to a Hallmark holiday movie." Sorry everyone.
Nice song to start a July weekend. My stress is disappearing... thanks, RP!!

When I was a kid, we went to see PDQ Bach at the Kennedy Center. Just about starting time, a guy came out on the stage and said 'I'm sorry ladies and gentlemen, PDQ Bach is unable to perfor... only to be interrupted by a huge man running down the aisle, tux flying, yelling 'I'm here, I'm here!' The show was very funny, even with my limited experience in classical music and music history. Brilliant.

Apparently Ms. Krauss couldn't find any 'good' musicians - only great ones!

PROPPER GROOVY BLUE GRASS NEARLY AS GOOD AS THE GREEN STUFF...
Everybody happy yet?!
Can't feel down for long with this terrific music playing.

Well it certainly sounds like they are having fun.
Never really heard much AKUS before. Excellent music.

Douglas is a wizard.
From the wikipedia article: As of 2018, she has won 27 Grammy Awards from 42 nominations, ranking her third behind Quincy Jones and classical conductor Georg Solti for most Grammy Award wins. That's an amazing fact !
wonderful

VERY well done.
The talent in this group is beyond measure.
Of course, I was being facetious and ironic. Govna was being of coarse dismissive and crude. This band is quite stupendous.

I have the album and DVD of the major concert containing this song, and this one doesn't sound quite the same? Nonetheless, I am a die-hard AKUS fan, all the way down here in Perth, Australia. They could release a version of "Happy Birthday" and I'd love it. No one plays the dobro like Jerry Douglas, and as a band, they are as tight as it gets.

Now THAT was some awesome picking! Really made me want to be there in person to see AND hear the performance. Nice!
Mike Auldridge (Seldom Scene, Chesapeake), arguably the father of modern resonator guitar technique, died last week. Jerry Douglas, whose Dobro break just sizzles on this track, has acknowledged his indebtedness to Auldridge.
She sure can fiddle, fur shur!

You say that like it's a bad thing. Actually this doesn't sound much like Peter Schickele (or his alias) to me. There is a lot going on in this version, but it's not chaotic to me - we all hear different things, of course.
I know now why this is irritating me - it's too chaotic - like something by PDQ Bach.

Banjo = Fun!
Alison just called and requested some Bill Monroe...
Not my favourite Union Station moment, but I think if I were to be watching them do this live, I'd be enraptured...Anyways...not annoying, just fast and a little eclectic and a bit here and a bit there......

To all the doubters: Go see a show. Pure musical mastery and beauty.

Annoying

This is an instrumental, it's bound to contain some noodling. But hey, it's pretty fine noodling.
Not usually a fan of this type of music, but this starts out like Prog-Fiddle! I enjoyed the time signature changes early on in the track and then got disappointed when it dissolved into Charlie Daniels-like noodling.

Bill, you should have warned us.

You have to see the storytellers with Robert Plant and Alison. One of the best espisodes. So many great stories. They have a wonderfully odd chemistry.

Jerry Douglas has smoke coming from his slide this whole album, great concert, wish I was there.
What a fab fiddle player - very talented woman! Joy to listen to her.
Smokin' - love it.

Until I heard her with Robert Plant, I had NO idea who she was - or how talented she is in her own right. This is a good song. Thanks, BillandRebecca!

Woo!! This is SUCH a great live album. Some particularly incredible work from the master of the dobro Jerry Douglas. If you like this song this record will NOT disappoint!

A nice little exercise, but there's so much Allison Krauss (and her ensemble) out there that exhibits a wider range of their talents. Why this choice, I wonder?
Yay! I am first! Let's start Miss Krauss out with an 8, shall we?
Either way...guy stinks at music.
I think there is evidence to the contrary. While I've never gotten close enough to smell him, the other musical artists onstage showed no evidence of a distasteful aroma emanating from Mr. Douglas.
If your comment is about his musical abilities, the evidence that many talented artists have corroborated with Jerry Douglas, would also disprove your statement.
But, hey, don't let real evidence get in the way of nasty rant.
