Half empty, half full
Cup runneth over
Horns of plenty, coffers full
We're starting over
Half empty, half full
Cup runneth over
Horns of plenty, coffers full
We're starting over
I write you a story
But it loses its thread
And all of my witnesses
Keep turning up, turning up dead
I paint you a picture
Of Pulaski at night
Come back to Chicago
City of, city of light
Come back to Chicago
I paint you a picture
But it never looks right
Cause I fill in the shadows
And block out the, I block out the light
I send you a postcard
It says, "Pulaski at night"
Greetings from Chicago
City of, city of light
Come back to Chicago
City of, city of light
Come back to Chicago
Cup runneth over
Horns of plenty, coffers full
We're starting over
Half empty, half full

You tread on dangerous ground.
BillG is the last descendant of the very first DJ.
Two songs ago was Bird York, whose
cover photo looks much like Gates McFadden.
McFaddens character in Star Trek : The Next Generation ( Dr. Beverly Crusher ) was
temporarily replaced by Dr. Katharine Pulaski ( played by Diana Muldaur ).
Random coincidence or the machinations of a certain free-range internet DJ ?
You decide.

I'm glad you cleared that up, some listeners tend to be a bit fastidious and anal retentive when it comes to word definitions and using them correctly in sentences. Not me though. I have a fifth grade education and Im fine with that.
My previous post used the word "machinations".
Having reviewed the meaning of the word,
I see it may have some negative connotations,
which is not my intent.
Please replace with "cleverness".
That is all. Carry on.

I keep expecting this to break out into "Come on Eileen"
EDIT: wow...I just noticed I said practically the same thing a year ago...ha ha.

It's also a major thoroughfare in Chicago, though I too am more familiar with the famous skyway. They named a lot of stuff after old Casimir including a holiday in NYC and another one in Chicago.
Love the song but Sorry Andrew, Pulaski at night is a bridge connecting beautiful Jersey City NJ with the lovely and effervescent Newark NJ

So bloody Beirutisqe. I like it a lot!

Way, way less annoying than Come on Eileen.
This song is about as ridiculous as Come on Eileen by Dexy's Midnight Runners, and pretty much copies the tune to an extent.

After this song sitting in the background , I asked myself, "who is this, pretty darn good". Thanks Bill
This song sounds like a bird. Makes me very happy.
Birdie sounds like he's picked up some Beirut-esque vibrato on this track.
More enjoyable than actual Beirut for its subtly.

Mmm. Thirded.
Quirky. I like it.
Kinda sounds like that Midlake song that gets played around here except that this one doesn't suck.
(thanks for the lyrics post -- now available above -bg)

Thinkin' about it. BTW, the last time Bill played this he followed it with Stevens's "Chicago." So there.

the first thing they tell you when you come to Chicago, "the windy city", is that it is called that because of "the politics", not the actual wind...this is one of the strangest facts about the city, because this metaphor falls quite flat in my opinion...
the best musical piece I've heard last couple of mounths.
it's amazing
I'm now playing this song for a friend who likes it and need an emotional pickup - good timing RP!

I have a very wide range of tastes and consider myself a decent critic. Having said that, I can't see myself ever listening to this song on purpose :^ /
This is spritely and plucky! Someone might want to help Andrew with his tendency to turn an "s" sound into an "sh" sound when sings about the "city."
Very cool drawing, RabbitEars!

Discovering this song and his author. and seduced. I nearly never give a 7 rate the first time I hear a song. Well, this song is then an exception. And I'm going directly to listen to the two links given hereunder
I have to concur with his topic for sure! one of my favorite cities by a long shot.
Nice song for a rainy Tuesday.
ughhh
I love Chicago, the place. Love the modern ethnic flavor of this tune.
I am so in love with this guy right now. I think I've listened to "Lull" about 50x this week. Thanks RP for turning me on to this maestro.
