Don't touch the sleeping pills, they mess with my head
Dredging the Great White Sharks, swimming in the bed
And here comes a Killer Whale, to sing me to sleep
Thrashing the covers off, it has me by it's teeth
And oh my love remind me, what was it that I said?
I can't help but pull the earth around me, to make my bed
And oh my love remind me, what was it that I did?
Did I drink too much?
Am I losing touch?
Did I build this ship to wreck?
To wreck, to wreck, to wreck
Did I build this ship to wreck?
What's with the long face? Do you want more?
Thousands of red-eyed mice, scratching at the door
Don't let the curtain catch you, cause you've been here before
The chair is an island darling, you can't touch the floor
And oh my love remind me, what was it that I said?
I can't help but pull the earth around me, to make my bed
And oh my love remind me, what was it that I did?
Did I drink too much?
Am I losing touch?
Did I build this ship to wreck?
To wreck, to wreck, to wreck
Did I build this ship to wreck?
And good God, under starry skies we are lost
And into the breach we got tossed
And the water's coming in fast!
And oh my love remind me, what was it that I said?
I can't help but pull the earth around me, to make my bed
And oh my love remind me, what was it that I did?

If I imagine this melody being played on an instrument instead of being sung, it becomes even more boring.
I enjoyed this song when I first heard it, but it got old quick, and now sounds like car radio to me... the repeated "to wreck" in the chorus is annoying...

wise indeed! Old Elliot would say "She is who she is" : )
Her outstanding, distinctive style is in league with Iggy Pop, not for everyone but appropriate to the nature of the songs
Flo is brilliant

Yes. Sooo shout-y.
Have you no sense of subtelty in your voice, ma'am, at long last? Have you left no sense of loud vs soft?

I think this song is one of the worst I hear on RP.
I enjoyed the "Lungs" album but this song not so much.

A lot of H8 here for a song with a 70% above average rating from RP listeners. The more different a singer's style/voice, the more polarizing I guess.
I'll throw in with the appreciators and say that this is a fine song, well delivered, by a distinctive and inventive singer with an amazingly powerful voice.
BTW: I didn't hear "tourettes", perhaps the OP on that comment should get their hearing and/or sense of humor checked.

Try, Florence, just a little bit harder...

Catchy pop tune, but the repeated "to wreck" in the chorus is annoying.

They've toned down the OTT production quite a bit, which suits these ears much more.
For a change, with Flossy, she keeps her voice relatively restrained in this album, rather than turning it up to 11 as in her previous work. I like her loud and quiet, but those on here who complain about her being full-on might be pleasantly surprised by this work.
this song is just terrible. whine whine whine

Outstanding.
"Shipwreck" is an apt description. There's a reasonably decent tune in here somewhere, but she over-sings it like she over-sings almost everything she does.
Lost patience with her sound - all just sounds the same to me now. Scream - mellow bridge - Scream - Chorus..... Done with this band....
Sorry, just not a fan. This new pop music formula of "the Wall of Sound" ie chorus and pound drums falls flat on me - especially after you read the lyrics.
She is a good performer on stage and definitely has a following.

I'm not the biggest fan of Florence but this song is actually pretty nice, solid 7

Love it.
