I don't want to know about evil
I only want to know about love
I don't want to know about evil
I only want to know about love
Sometime it gets kinda hard to listen
Hard for me to use my eyes
And all around the gold is glistening
Making sure it keeps me down to size
And I don't want to know about evil
I only want to know about love
I don't want to know one thing about evil
I only want to know about love
I'm waiting for the plains to tumble
Waiting for the towns to fall
I'm waiting for the cities to crumble
Waiting till I hear the call
It's getting kinda hard to listen
Hard for us to use our eyes
All around the gold is glistening
Making sure it keeps us hypnotized
Yeah, I don't want to know about evil
I only want to know about love
Yeah, I don't want to know one thing about evil
I only want to know about love
And I don't want to know about evil
I only want to know about love
I don't want to know nothing about evil
I only want to know about love
Yeah, I don't want to know about evil
I only want to know about love
I don't want to know one thing about evil
I only want to know about love
I only want to know about love
I don't want to know about evil

Beth Orton's version is a cover? I had no idea. I am not a huge fan of either one, but Beth's does have a nice trance vibe which sets it apart from Dr. John's bluesy, down to earth version.

Adequate.....but the John Martyn original is SO much better!

Love Dr John but, John Martyn’s original is just 10x better. Saw him in 1978 from 20’ at St Andrews SCOTLAND. what a show!!!

There are several good versions of this. You should hear Amy Lavere's. Actually, you should just hear Amy Lavere

Did I read this right? John Martyn's vocal isn't quite up to Dr John's?
The Good Dr would be stunned by that statement, for sure. When he couldn't get interest in his songs, he was listening to some singers who were getting radio play and said "I'm at least as bad as they are, so I might as well sing them myself."

John Martyn's vocals are not quite up these from good Dr. John.
But I also enjoy the original and have had that recording for decades.

well , i uploaded the muki version of this song, its on lrc, current rating is 14/4 (78%), so it would be relief not to have to listen to this crappy version by dr. john and have it replaced with muki brilliant version,

OK, but the strange Doc's pretty cool
Walk on gilded splinters, baby!
You know you ought to be listening to the JM original!!

So why would I actually like Dr. John, Leon Russel, Neil Young and Bob Dylan but can't stand Tom Waits, Kris Kristofferson or Leonard Cowen? Surely they were all rescued from the same island of unwanted voices.
Bokey like all dem guys. Even the ones whose voices he don't like.
It's a well crafted song to begin with an' yea, John Martyn does it so well but Dr. John does a bloody good take on it however, I think.
Didn't know Dr. John covered this song too....can't quite get it to fit into my head and ears correctly -
Give me John Martyn any day of the week, although saying that, I've just watched a version of this song on YouTube by John Conneely.

Leonard Cowen?!! Don't have a ''cow,'' man, have a ''coh.''

a totally inferior cover. Why waste valuable ear space on this when the orignal John Martyn is presumably but a click away?

...wrong, they were rescued from the realm of corporate sludge...now, get me 'nother scotch and be quick about it...

How 'bout a little more Mardi Gras love today, Bill?
Hmmm, I thought I was listening to Nick Cave. I like this.
Wonderfully refreshing!

JM bless him, still seriously under represented on the RP playlist - considering his output spanning some 35+ years of c.20 Albums!!

Oh yea! He was on the Grammy's last Wednesday night, playing with a bunch of other great artists all together! Now the Dr. I always like!

Yea;They found him washed ashore in New Orleans after hurricain Katrina...

Bleh, play the John Martyn original, it knocks this version into a cocked hat.
Love the message!
Is it just me, or has the Dr. gotten significantly more RP airtime since Katrina? One good thing to come from that tragedy. Now, how 'bout some Zydeco?!
After what happened in N.O., everything by Dr. John sounds so much more poignant.

I like Dr. John too, but the original is by the writer John Martyn, from his classic album Solid Air
