Look under his floorboards, Mama,
I don't trust his silly grin
He's got a beat-up Rambler, Nebraska plates,
and I ain't getting in
I don't like the way his pinky ring
picks up the dashboard light
or his short little piggy fingers
or the way his belt is cinched too tight
Check under his floorboards, Mama,
I don't like his suggestive tone
The way his words drip from his mouth
as he asks can I take you home?
I don't care how many miles I got,
I think I'd rather walk them alone
than to sit in the back seat
as his eyes in the mirror
reduce me to flesh and bone
Check under his floorboards, Mama,
'cause that razor's not just a threat to me
He'll be slicing tiny crescents from your heart,
without laying a sweaty palm to your cheek
Don't accuse me of running scared,
listen to what I'm saying
It's a fucked up ol' world, but this ol' girl
Well, she ain't giving in
I don't trust his silly grin
He's got a beat-up Rambler, Nebraska plates,

Well, this is creepy.
Sounds like a more harmonious Tom Waits with a girl singing. I'd like to hear Waits cover this.
Tasty; reminds me of the Stones Parachute Woman for some reason.
Puts me in mind of Ode to Billie Joe for some reason.
Completely forgot how good this song is - need to dig it out!

Oh. I think that means it's kind of Marcel Proustian.

"Snoozefest" is how I usually categorize this band, but this song made me sit up and listen. Great lyrics, eh?

This is one of the most dead on comments I've seen here. I saw them at a wonderful venue in Ann Arbor years ago and Margeaux had just broken her foot and was in a cast. I thought that was the reason for the subdued nature of the show but overall it was a real snooze. Beware...sleep - inducing.
If you enjoy Cowboy Junkies, don't go to one of their concerts. Great music to listen to, very boring to watch. I had no idea they are a family band and watching them is a real snooze fest. For some reason this knowledge has ruined Cowboy Junkies for me forever.

Nice! I fondly remember my friend Lisanne coming to visit us in Noto in the wilds of Ishikawa and raving about this, right after it came out!
Her voice is soooo Hot!
I Love Margo

Unhurried...and not over produced. Like the feel and her vocals shine. Never really been into Cowboy Junkies...but I do like this tune very much.
