Me: What do you recommend on this menu?

Me: Where is the library?

Portlandian: Soooo, at the corner of __ and __ there's a brick building? That's the library.

Before long, I found MYSELF starting to do it. It's contagious.

EDIT: People at work use it as a way to interrupt interject things in meetings. Before someone's done talking, they start going, "Ssssssssssss....." (getting ready to start their statement with "so")

It's infected NPR and other news in a really bad way.

Anchor: Jim, what's the latest on the big tire fire?
Reporter: So, there are some tires, that are on fire.
Anchor: What seems to be the cause of it?
Reporter: So, the fire chief says fire got onto some tires.

I will miss the journals, but I have to say I don't exactly trust the current community (some) with anything personal.

The journals were my introduction/way in to the RP community. Will they be archived or should I save some of them I wonder.

I routinely check out the journals whenever I pop in to see what is new there.  So I was going to go and dig up an old one regarding optimism that I wrote years ago to copy for the social worker at my oncologist's office and repost just to get something up besides all of the spam that's been put there as of late.  Sean has done that every now and then.  It has been a bummer to see it there and has kinda kept me from from actually putting up something new.  There has been an extraordinary amount of crap I've been dealing with and was going to mention some of it and what I am going to do about it.

Have also been getting ready to start putting up some tunes to share there.  Won't do it over on this side for a host of reasons, mostly to keep it off the radar and that I can make it go away after a couple of weeks.

This is the journal from September 2010

Yes, this place has been a good place to get it all out and I will miss it if it goes.  I routinely check the journals too as we have some awesome writers posting in here.  We've come to know these folks through their most heartfelt issues with the help of the Journals.

Later that same day.

I must say that I was becoming a little distant from the RP board over the past couple of months. Nothing really I can put my finger on but....
Now however, with the new beta site I find an even better community coming together. I always continued to listen to Bill and Rebecca and the community's grand music so it's just a joy to re-enter the ranks of the posters. And with nearly 3000 posts to go before the great surprise, well I just must ramble on .... For those of you who do not know I spent my life in the radio business from small market to large market radio stations. My dream would be to do what Bill has done here. But since Bill and family have already done it, I'll just enjoy the fruit.

It has to start somewhere...

Posted by BillG - Jun 22, 2003 - 2:20pm

I used to do an online journal back in 1995/1996. Since then I've watched the Blog phenomenon grow - all the while thinking, "hey, I really ought to get back into that". However, I've been just a wee bit busy with this other fast-growing phenomenon known as Radio Paradise and I've never gotten around to it. Now DaWiz has made it so easy that I don't have any excuse, so here I am. You can expect periodic ramblings on RP, radio in general, politics, modern life, movies, books, gadgets, travel, and whatever else is on my mind. I doubt that I'll be one of those compulsive daily bloggers/journalers - but I'll try to check in here fairly regularly. Of all the features of the new site, this is probably the one that I'm most excited about. The RP community is filled with talented, thoughtful writers - possessing a delightful diverse range of viewpoints - and I'm looking forward to providing them with an easy-to-use platform to present thier thoughts & opinions, and to reading what they have to say.

This has crossed my mind a lot lately, as every night five to ten spam journals would be posted. And I realized it had been ages since anyone had posted anything that wasn't spam. With all the other performance issues the site has had, I wondered if site performance could be improved by removing the Journal code.

It seems that BillG is thinking the same thing.

I have no great nostalgia for the Journals. They stopped being important to a great number of members about the same time that web logs began to lose people's interest in favor of social media (Twitter, Facebook) and general message forums like here or at Reddit.

I say get rid of them and see what happens.

But if many of you can't let them go, and you talk BillG back from the brink, I expect to see all of you posting regular Journal entries. Like at least once per week.

I'll do my best. Promise.

I want them. I've cried for help there. I've thought about doing it again from time to time, but I haven't gathered the words or the courage.

I was able to answer a cry for help there recently that I wouldn't have seen, most likely, if it had been in the forums.

Still.  Whatever.  The world turns, I guess.
