People often confuse Marxism with communism, either out of stupidity or convenient misrepresentation... Marxism is a methodology to analyze capitalism; communism is a form of government... personally, I think Bill O'Reilly is a little Hitler, and I adore Marxism... Â
Bill OâReilly, the tumescent personality of Fox News, said on his Friday show âRobert Reich is a communist who secretly adores Karl Marx.â (This came after Fox Newsâ Neil Cavoto called me a âsanctimonious twitâ for suggesting the rich should pay more in taxes.)
OâReillyâs accusation is odd, to say the least. If we were living in the 1950s, amid Senator Joe McCarthyâs communist witch-hunts, the claim might have some bite and cause me injury. But these days itâs hard to find a full-throated communist anywhere in the world.
OâReillyâs accusation isnât even logical. How can he know if I secretly adore Karl Marx, if itâs a secret?
For the record, Iâm not a communist and I donât secretly adore Karl Marx.
Ordinarily I donât bother repeating anything Bill OâReilly says. But this particular whopper is significant because it represents what OâReilly and Fox News, among others, are doing to the national dialogue.
Theyâre burying it in doo-doo...

Communism is an economic/ social philosophy/theory - NOT a form of government.
And Marxism is the economic,social and political theories proposed by Karl Marx.
So, apparently some at Fox News are smarting over reports/criticism pointing out that they and the other US networks are failing to report fully on the historic protests happening in Egypt, while Al-Jazeera English has reporters on the spot giving the world a first hand view of these momentous events.
Bill O'Reilly, that mature, even-handed guy, decided to address this criticism on his show last night. He did it by trying to paint Al-Jazeera as anti-semitic (based on comments made by one or two guests interviewed on the channel), calling Sam Donaldson a pinhead, and instigating a shouting match with Alan Colmes. Way to stay classy, Bill! If you really think Al-Jazeera English can't be trusted to report on these events without anti-American bias, why don't you go over there and do some reporting for once?
