I've gotten screwed by Google Voice.  Joined recently, made the necessary connections.  It disabled my US Cellular voicemail and, it doesn't work.  OK, I could see that this might be in its early stages.  So, I just followed the directions to back out of Google Voice.  Well, it is now disabled AND my US Cellular voicemail in inaccessible.  Turns out the Google Voice directions are written as universal instructions although different carriers have different ways of making these changes.  Now I'm trying to get US Cellular to reactivate my voicemail.  I contacted Google via their troubleshooting address, they haven't responded, for 4 days.

So, word of advice, don't jump into the Google Voice pool just yet.

I know that gmail has had its share of problems this week. Several people I know, as well as myself, have had trouble getting their accounts.

Bing-vs-Google: Now you can try them side by side

Google or Bing? Been wondering which search engine is right for you? Now, you can put them to the test yourself with Bing-vs-Google.

As the name implies, the site puts the two side-by-side for a real-time search engine showdown. Merely type in your query, and a split screen page (see image) with live results from both pages comes up, letting you simultaneously view the results of both searches and see which one is best for you.

Bing, Microsoft’s new search tool, claims it provides a context for searches, making results more pertinent to users. Bing also has a versatile taskbar that displays related searches and a search history (which can be turned off), and offers a no-click preview of the first few paragraphs on a page.

But do any of Bing’s additions make it better than the reigning search champ, Google whose name has become synonymous with Web searching? (“Let me Google that.”)? And will those features help Bing dethrone Google? Time will tell.

In the meantime, give Bing-vs-Google.com a try, and let us know which site’s search results you prefer and why.

Bing-vs-Google, a new website, lets users contrast and compare the two search
engines side by side. (Click image above to see a snapshot of Bing-vs-Google.)

I know! That's what I figure must be (also) an ad for the meat market.

Holy whack jobs Batman!  That entire neighbourhood must be full of loons.  That's some cracked sense of humour to put that in your yard.

I assume it's some sort of advertisement for that meat market with the ham guy but still it's pretty odd.

It's pretty funny. Looks like they put on a parade for the Google cam-car. But browsing around the neighborhood I'd say it's predisposed to hijinx. A couple of buildings down on the other side of the alley there's a funky storefront or two. A couple of blocks down the way, A guy dressed in such a lousy "ham" costume that he has to be labeled "ham" isn't the strangest thing at that intersection. Just turn around!

Gotta wonder how many of these are setups just for the cam.
