Alphonse Mucha: Google's Doodle of the Day

Born on this day 150 years ago, the Czech painter is being celebrated on Google.com.

Alphonse Maria Mucha (24 July 1860 – 14 July 1939), a Czech Art Nouveau painter and decorative artist was known for his distinct style and his images of women.  His work has widely influenced modern art in a wide range of fields.

His designs were influential to Hapshash and the Coloured Coat, designers who, in the 1960s, created posters for rockbands like Pink Floyd (below).

His work also influenced artist Paul Harvey whose subjects have included Madonna and Charles Saatchi amongst others.

Even Japanese Manga, fantasy, and comic book artists were influenced by his Art Nouveau style.

Heavy metal band Soilent Green even used his work as the cover of their album Sewn Mouth Secrets.

In addition to being an artist, he also credited with re-establishing Czech Freemasonry.

I've gotten screwed by Google Voice.  Joined recently, made the necessary connections.  It disabled my US Cellular voicemail and, it doesn't work.  OK, I could see that this might be in its early stages.  So, I just followed the directions to back out of Google Voice.  Well, it is now disabled AND my US Cellular voicemail in inaccessible.  Turns out the Google Voice directions are written as universal instructions although different carriers have different ways of making these changes.  Now I'm trying to get US Cellular to reactivate my voicemail.  I contacted Google via their troubleshooting address, they haven't responded, for 4 days.


So, word of advice, don't jump into the Google Voice pool just yet.

I do believe there is a fraudulent email getting sent to gmail accounts, claiming to be part of the Google team, threatening to shut down your account—-unless you reply with your username, password, city, country etc.

I reported it.
