I once lived in an apartment where my idiot room-mate started a grease fire atop the stove. Fortunately, we were able to extinguish it once I found a lid for the pan. Anyhow, the smell lingered for some time until we cleaned every inch of the kitchen, including the ceiling, (we had to remove the black spot over the stove anyhow) behind the stove, etc. Even then there was a trace of the smell for a while. Burnt popcorn has a particularly unpleasant aroma too.

YES, it sure does!!

well, good thing my plan after work was to clean the entire place anyway!
