Made what I hope will be an effective trellis for squash and zucchini out of some old fencing in the back big bed. Put up the little ladder for cukes. Last will be the round bed in the back. Sugar Cube cantaloupes which will hopefully grow up on some bamboo loop supports. Three tomatoes, basil already coming along. And some marigolds and a coleus just for fun!

About to pull up a bunch of things that aren’t going to produce anymore. Time to put in some seeds or something in their place.
But, we’re going to leave on a very long (8 month) trip in October and assume that whoever stays here won’t be interested in tending to a fall/winter crop.
So, gotta do some planning…

Area greenhouse and  farm fields had their plants dug up and plant trays stolen. WTF is wrong with people?!

Man, I used some calories over the past few days but got everything up and working. Ripped out some plastic 4" borders (you can see one at the end of the brick middle section) and replaced those crumbling things with metal raised beds.  New borders, dirt cleaned up and replaced including worm poop and some peat, new drip irrigation, transplanted some small plants and laid a whole bunch of seeds to get ready for spring. And today it rained! I like it. Still lots left to do, but happy with the big work.
Everyone asks what's that sphere. It's a crappy composting thing. Don't get one.

Very nice. We have a small container, mostly herb garden we need to get busy on.

I didn’t plant another after the last batch. The light is REALLY BRIGHT, and I don’t have a spot for it where it isn’t annoying. Now that it’s lighter during the day longer hours I might plant some herbs.

How long do you hang on to seeds? I buy a package, use very few of them, and then try to replant that year but I still end up with many-year-old leftovers and hate to waste a growing season on ones that won't germinate.

Seed viability can vary greatly depending on the seed variety and we have found good storage really does help.
The good lady has a seed bank of seed collected out of the garden. Got a 10 litre bucket near on full. Keep it in the back of a very cool and dry pantry.
She turns out the whole bucket occasionally, mass dumping any older seed in the garden so we kinda end up with a lucky dip of germination of what ever wants to pop up.
This has been a killer summer here this year . Record max temps and only one 20 mm downpour of rain in three months and our veggie patches are mini deserts at the mo, so the salad seed sprouter on the kitchen window sill has helped fill our plates.

it depends on the seeds. I've tomato and pepper seeds last over 10 years. eggplant only 3 years.
most will last a long time if stored properly.
